Because the devs don't want them?

...and their reasoning is: it won't add anything to the gameplay...and they would know since they are playing it everyday.

To use Todd speak...

"We felt we had to focus on the bow to better stamp down what range combat can be, and should be. Game developing is a learning experience for us. The more time we spend utilizing a specific tool the better, as game developers, we become."

Because they couldn't make them distinct enough?

I don't know about crossbows, but I always found the throwing weapons in Morrowind or New Vegas laughable...
They're supposed to be hold-out weapons, you throw them once or twice then you go back doing your thing, you don't just equip a bunch of knives go to the corner and throw them like crazy.

Throwing weapons in New Vegas were the most powerful weapons in the game, by an extreme margin, when combined with the modest Survival skill to make poisons.

Throwing weapons could have a place in Skyrim, but won't as far as I understand. They could be used as 1 handed ranged weapons, which could be useful. But if I remember they said no throwing weapons as well as crossbows?

They are not confirmed.

Yep, this. They may have mentioned kicking around the idea but no official "yes, they are in".

If poisons are in (which I'm sure they are), then thrown weapons need to be included as well. Cheap, efficient ways to apply poison at range? Count me in. Put a slowing poison on a dart and use it when you need to get the hell outta Dodge.

Provided they're ineffective against dragons I'm fine with that.

I am in favor of this reasoning. It would be perfect, especially since some dungeons will be too difficult for lower level characters to complete. May need to get out in a hurry.
