I was making fun of myself and everyone else who's obsessed over balance issues over the years. The beard line was just the type of non sequitur you often see on the forums after a complaint.
It's easy to scoff at "savages" on the internet, in the safety of your home. Not quite so easy when you realize some of them are your friends, colleagues or loved ones, and often actually nice people.
Stop making sense, let us hate and fuel it over the Internet!
Of course, cross-dressing is allowed because that is the easiest way for the game developers to implement how bonuses are given by apparel. This is not really done to support transgenderism, although Bethesda has always been LGBT-inclusive in their games. I saw quite a few same six couples in Elder Scrolls Online, and within the first 5 minutes of FO4, we see two men hugging each other and two women hugging each other.
I think everyone's reading a little too much into things. Bethesda would have had to go out of their way to make apparel change stat boosts based on gender... and who cares? It's not like anyone's forced to wear a dress to pass any speech checks.
They wouldn't survive me. None ever have. And they would certainly not remain friends colleagues or loved ones for long.
You wanna give me crap out my choices in life, I will rip you a whole new one.
Don't mess with me. I won't put up with the bigotry, the hate or the stupid excuses for willful ignorance. And that is not just for homophobia, it's also stands for racial, ethnic, religious or lifestyle choices that you may not "agree with".
And, BTW - they are not NICE people. Bigotry, hate and willful ignorance cancel out any "Nice" that may be there.
Agatha's Dress is still prettier though, so in the end I'm cool with it.
On another note, I'm getting really tired of all the drama on the internet about sixuality/gender/whatever one way or the other. Especially the devbashing over romance paths. Have people considered that maybe Bethesda (and on that note, Bioware) might simply not think that LGBT+++ anything is a huge deal that lies outside the "norm", but is rather a perfectly normal thing in whatever fictional universe they're building, to the point where no one in-universe cares either way? It's like... Transistor. In that game, two of the major characters just happen to be a gay married couple. Why? Because they are. Some dudes are gay and they can get married in Cloudbank, and the world's just pretty chill about the whole thing - same goes for the Commonwealth and probably most of the Wasteland that isn't (for instance) Brotherhood of Steel, or Thedas, or wherever else.
EDIT: Damn, Sonny, take a chill pill. That kind of thing is usually just called "fanning the flames". Actual bigots are a small minority that are only sustained by attention - ignore them, let them die out, done.
If you're not judging, then you should understand that when you dress up you look better and get accepted better, hence the perceived charisma increase.
I understand where your coming from. Its just that when people are faced with things that make them uncomfortable they are running scared and need someone to blame. Its an old cliche that just won't die out. I am glad there are game developers that actually faces these issues head on and let people just be people.
If you are a male and put on a dress you don't look better. To OP: it's just a game mechanic and if you are not roleplaying transvestite you have no business sporting a dress as a male character. Just don't do it.
The only manly alternative I've found is to chug a beer, and to add a modded pair of patrolman sunglasses
I think it's cool that you can cross dress, but it's weird that all the men-wear boosts either perception or intelligence, whereas only the female ones yields charisma. Please no one tell Sarkeesian ;P
He said he wasn't judging (unlike you, you seem horrified and afraid). So maybe people do think the dress wearer looks better. Regardless it's a moot point as only a female in a dress gets the charisma advantage from a nice dress, which you'd know if you read the thread.
It's funny how a female item of clothing provokes such amusemant, almost as if it's accepted that being a female is a joke. Yet wearing the pants is an honour.
Depends on who is looking at you. And you know self-esteem.
Mens suits give charisma bonuses just like dresses. Lab coats, jumpsuits and trenchcoats usually give intelligence and perception bonuses and they are quite unisix.
Well, this thread made that patently obvious... but honestly, I read it more as some game developers having moved past the drama and decided to just create the worlds they want. They "address" the issue by treating it as a non-issue. Other people just attach excessive meaning to it.
Oh boy, this [censored] again. Who are you, and who made you the god-king of aesthetics? For the record, the outfits look fabulous on any protagonist, provided they complement skin tone and eyes color-wise.
On that note - incorrect. The male counterpart of Agatha's Dress (the unique quest reward dress/suit) also provides +3 charisma. So does the Pompadour Wig, as well as some of the hats, and the suits. Very few items raise INT - the ushanka, which is a bit odd on everyone, and the lab coats, which are unisix. But in the context of the Commonwealth there really isn't any real sense of "men's" or "women's" wear, anyway.
Actually, in this game particularly, clothing bonuses ARE unisix. Commonwealth Wastelanders generally don't seem to care about gender one way or the other, which is exactly as it should be. I really don't care as long as my Survivor, male or female, can be appropriately fabulous, which at the moment involves stealing the coat of a Brotherhood Elder for kicks.
Apparently unisix bonuses only apply to Intelligence and Perception, not Charisma. To get a Charisma bonus as a male you need to wear a suit.
Not to my knowledge. Information from this thread may be wrong. There's a thread off Google from someone complaining that it gives a bonus but "shouldn't" because the OP thinks men in dresses don't look good, which is ridiculous but proves they do make your character more charismatic as intended. So far, other than the +3 dress vs. +3 suit you get as a quest reward (might it have been that you read?), I have yet to encounter a single thing in Fallout 4 that treats you differently for male and female Survivors, save for some minor perk naming and Black Widow/Ladykiller (which only give persuade and damage bonuses, no extra dialogue options).
A few people keep insisting it's the case, wonder why? I can't test this myself, I only play as my own gender (female).
I wore the charisma dress. Trashcan Carla doesn't judge, but she does offer discounts to crossdressers. It's a sacrifice I am willing to make for the safety of Sanctuary.
It's their annoying shaved sides haircuts they all have. Their bra straps showing under their raider harnesses annoys me for some reason. Seems vaguely improper, despite them all being better dressed than in Fallout 3. At least when you steal their clothes now, they aren't somehow wearing Mormon underwear underneath their colanders and chains.
Must svck to live in regions where men where kilts or thawbs or sarongs or djellaba or lava-lava or...
Sorry. I just git so dern hepped up!
You're right. I guess people in the Commonwealth have got bigger things to worry about than who's sleeping with whom.
It's because Charisma comes from within. If you feel fabulous, you ARE fabulous!
Yea yea. Who made you holier than thou PC king? No they really don't look fabulous and my opinion is as much valid as yours.
