Crowd control spells affecting player?

Post » Sun Feb 27, 2011 7:28 pm

Everyone knows the joyful spells frenzy, demoralize, rally, and dominate don't do anything to the player in vanilla oblivion... Has anyone made a mod so that they do? Probably just by going into cinematic mode and turning the player into a NPC with the effects. Can the game handle that?

That would be something. There are magic mods that add new spells to NPCs so this is not far from that. Probably would need some animations but would definately make the game more realistic.

There is also the problem that those effects are not hostile, so NPCs won't cast them at all, and you cannot change that with the default CS. I also fantasized with this, but it really requires a lot of heavy OBSE scripting and maybe even using OBME to change the effects' hostility.

Oooorrrr you could add that effect to another spell that does have a hostile effect, couldn't you? I.e. Fire Damage + Frenzy?

Yes, even a dummy script effect with the hostile flag would do, but you would have to make new spells or patch the vanilla ones (and add them to the NPC leveled spell pools). And that is only the beginning, the scripts required for the spells to affect you are the real problem.

I just pretend all the mumbo-jumbo mythos surrounding the player characters of the TES games protect them from mind-altering spells... or something...

They make my toes feel comfy
:P

hmmm, remember GTA when you got a kill frenzy? You got unlimited ammo and could blow lots and lots and lots of stuff up. The plyer himself basically got the incentive to do such things. Frenzy in Oblivion could be the same. You cannot be blocked, you get 50hp/sec regen, no fatigue loss and your weapon does 13% damage of max hp, for 1 minute. So you need 8 hits per target, lots of frantic clicking, you lose track of what's going on around you... oh and you're forced in third person mode!

Command human... there is a mod somewhere that lets you follow an actor. So it can be done. Disable the controls but also make it so nobody keeps hitting you... that would be a tough one I think... unless you get 100% chameleon

Charm the player....
We could have lots of options here, optional plugins and such...
OPTION1: NPC enters into conversation and smiles and tells you how strong you are, how funny you are, how good looking, how smart... You get a boost to your luck attribute and some gold coins and maybe some voice acting... have him/her call you "da man"... You know, make the player behind the monitor feel cool

OPTION2: NPC casts charm on player, player no longer sees ugly necromancer dude but instead sees a pretty lady who winks at player, higher levels of magnitude increase boob size

Rally: suddenly your loudspeakers chant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jYsHfTflBQ#t=0m13s

Oh god that would become the number one suicide method among adventures who are looking to die in a last "epic" battle.
