I just learned that a new crowdfunding platform called https://www.fig.co/campaigns/outer-wilds (http://www.polygon.com/2015/8/18/9169697/fig-kickstarter-equity-investment-games-outer-wilds-masi-oka?utm_campaign=polygon&utm_content=article%3Atop&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook#) launched today. Twist from the usual scheme: it brings equity investment into crowdfunding. You can still back the project the tried and tested way, but if you're an accredited investor, you can opt for a share of future revenue. The goal is to eventually open up the investment option to all supporters, no accreditation required. The site is highly curated; on board are Feargus Urquhart, Brian Fargo and Tim Schafer, who will advise in accepting new projects. All three are planning to fund their next games through Fig.
Thoughts? Opinions? I'm not sure if I like more financial strings and therefore responsibilty attached to crowdfunded projects, but at the same time I think it's an interesting (and not wholly unexpected) development of the existing, quite uniform system. They will definitely have to be crystal clear about the legal side of it all, though.
