A Cry for Better Clothing

Post » Mon Aug 08, 2011 8:35 am

Most of this game seems pretty incredible and so far I like what I see. Better yet I'm a computer gamer, so if I don't like what I see I can get a mod to fix that. That said there is something that was a problem in Oblivion that ought to be addressed: Clothing.

Oblivion missed two (and in robes 3, but since all legs and chests are combined now that seems moot) important pieces of clothing and both really ought to have been included. The first is Gloves. If you were a caster and you wanted to fill your enchant slots the only option that didn't mess with your casting was Wrist Irons which aren't exactly fitting for an Arch Mage dressed in resplendent robes. The other missing piece of clothing is important for more than just mages: Cloaks. Modders can do decent cloaks but they are always going to have the same ultra-stiff issues that Bethesda could more than deal with. Look at Hemingwey, his cloaks are likely the best out there (not to devalue other modders) and they still look like they are carved from wood and have some ugly clipping issues,

Please Bethesda, give us Cloaks and Gloves.

Agree with that but there was a 3rd type of clothing that was missing - hats. Your choice of headgear was limited to helms and hoods.

Wish you luck, I would hope there is more variety in general but I wont hold my breath, less attributes, less skills, less weapon types, less armour slots, I see a pattern.

And you should be able to upgrade them through smithing.

We already know slots for armor is like Oblivion barring grieves being combined.

Also I won't go over the attribute system and how pathetic and poorly conceived it's been from Arena all the way to Oblivion. It lacked depth. Thus cut into the 3 things attributes all fed into. I hope in the next game a better attribute system is conceived.

Other than armor/clothing slots everything else can be seen in a neutral and/or positive position

When I read the topic title, I thought of a dragon shout that provides you with better clothing.

Looks like clothes are going to be one piece suits again. Arvel had "farm clothes" in his inventory. :(

I would be concerned with the quality and design of those in the game rather than more.

I mean the White Mage Robe in Oblivion made my male character look like he was cross-dressing. That was NOT the effect I wanted to achieve so I threw my white robe into some lava in Oblivion.

Even if you had basic clothes designs and they were varied they need to add a feature that allows you to BLEACH cloth white and then dye it with another colour like Blood Red, Sapphire Blue, Viridian Green, or even keep it White... or go Black.

I mean being able to dye clothes would add so much more fun to the game even if the models were to be limited, it would breathe new life into clothing.

And I would KILL for a Bright Will Users Robe from Fable in Skyrim because it was the most awesome piece of cloth mageware I have ever seen in my life.

the only way cloaks would look good is with cloth physics, and that takes up a lot of space.
