Before I start, I'm just going to say that I am new here, and I have no idea if, or how often, these issues have been pointed out.
Now. One thing I've noticed in Crysis 2's multiplayer is the complete randomness involved in a surprising percentage of kills. As much as I enjoy the multiplayer, it seems that I am rolling a dice to decide the outcome of each encounter.
For instance, if I activate Armour mode, then start shooting at someone with most shots hitting above the chest, they can easily activate Armour mode, turn around and kill me with leg-stomach shots.
I have been raging pretty hard over the last week as each Armour-on-Armour fight ends with me dying. It seems that no matter how much Energy I have, no matter how accurate my shots are, I can only kill if the enemy is not aware of me.
Another problem that can include Armour issues, the melees. I have noticed alot of variability in the melees, and it seems that they are almost completely dependant on latency. Sometimes, it takes two melees to take out an Armoured person, and other times it takes four to take out an unarmoured person. This is a minor point of my argument, but it's still rather random.
Assists are also a problem, and like the melees above, it seems that if I put two bullets into the target and a team mate finishes him off, I will get an assist. Other times, I SCAR an enemy to the point of the [Health Critical] warning on their screen (I'd imagine, anyway) when a team mate will put the last bullet into him/her. No assist.
If anyone could explain the assist system to me (For instance, in Halo: Reach, an assist is defined as contributing to 40% or more of the total damage dealt to a target, and them being killed before their shields recharge; or in Call of Duty, being basically at least one hitmarker to earn an assist), it would be very helpful.
One thing I've noticed is that these occurrences generally fall into games with the strange yellow-or-red bar connection (not always though). It seems that while this connection is relatively smooth and lag-free, there are still little things like those paragraphs up above that make themselves apparent.
Also, seeming I'm such a creepy person and all, I check the location of each host of each game, to make sure that my yellow-bar is reasonable.
More than three-quarters of the time, it isn't.
Crysis 2 is the only game where I could get yellow-bar to another Australian barely 100km away from me. The host selection and management is almost to the point of it being a joke. Every two or three games, I'll have yellow-or-red bar to even the people in my party, who quite literally live down the street from me.
It seems that each game, the host is randomly reselected, not based on their actual competency as a host.
Or is this problem on the server's end of the line? Once again, I have no idea how the host selection works in Crysis, and it would be great to get an explanation on this one.
Don't get the wrong idea though, these are just little occurrences that bug me a little each time I play a game. I love the multiplayer to bits, and the campaign even more. I think it's a terrific game, and these are the only things I can think of that make me shake my head when I boot the disc.
So, I'm going to go play some more, and I'll be back in a couple of hours.
I will be back, and thanks in advance.
