As Crysis 2 had been out for like 2 weeks, i would like to create a topic about the engines. Wish one is better?, and more graphically?

My opinion says that it might be Cryengine 2 as it was used for Crysis, that wasn't on console. or because Crysis 2 isn't set in a jungle.

Share your thought!, tell some stuff that one has better then the other, and i will add it in a simple overview .

well, in the U.S. it has been out less than a week.

I don't want to make any comparisons of engines until crysis 2 has had the major issues patched, and dx11.
As of right now cryengine 2 is pretty refined, so i dont know if you could make a fair comparison unless you compare the newly released cryengine 2 versus the newly released cryengine 3. : )

Technically speaking CE3 is just better all around. Runs faster, has better lighting, etc.

The issue is that CE3 was used to make Crysis 2 which is in a city, rather than Crysis 1. If you could port Crysis 1 over to CE3, you'd find that it would probably look a lot better.

We'll speak about the engine when / if the Sandbox 3 will be released. Till than it's kinda pointless.

I think that the better CryEngine is the third one...

**** CE3 is much better. I'm sure that some people will port Crysis 1 to CE3 and then u will see...

And btw I'm running Crysis 1 with 35 fps at max and Crysis 2 with 50 fps. This engine sure is more optimized.

Cryengine 3 is more optimized and has more features. Crysis 2 doesn't necessarily look as good as crysis 1 in some areas, but its not the fault of the engine, just decisions the devs made for this specific game. Some graphical elements I've noticed cryengine 3 does a lot better is the blur effects, much higher quality, and the bokeh blur when you have your weapon customization up is really sixy.

Cryengine 3 can do everything 2 can and more.

Cryengine 3 , Stuning graphics , Smarter AI's wich makes the game more dificult ,amazing perfomence ...you know if the bugs on crysis 2 will be fixed then it will be the best Crysis that has been ever made

You wont get a decent discussion because people think CryEngine 2 = Crysis and CryEngine 3 = Crysis 2 which is obviously not the case. CryEngine 3 is the superior engine its just that Crysis 2 isnt showing what it can do like the first Crysis did with the second engine.

Cryengine 3 is actually alot better than cryengine 2, it's just that they didn't use all of it to make crysis 2.
Go look at the cryengine for cinema video, you'll understand why it's better.

What you need to do is get rid of the DoF/Blur in the distance and port a Crysis 1 map over to CE3. CE3 is much more optomised and has more lighting effects.

From the DX9-look, CE3 wins as they look very similar in quality but CE3 is a lot better optimised than CE2.
Rest is hard to compare as it's not out yet.

In my Opinion the CE2 looks better in overall quality.

The CE3 is an optimized engine for consoles and weaker PCs. Some stuff like lightning might look better than in the CE2, but overall the quality of the CE2 is better.

With the CE2 Crytek didn't care about limitations in regards of technology. They even said that they wanted to create an engine and game that will look great even after several years. The CE3 is supposed to be a main stream engine that looks good right now.

I honestly don't believe that there will ever be a game with the Cryengine 3 that gives you the freedom we've seen in Crysis 1. Feel free to prove me wrong!

Both engines are nearly the same... Cryengine 3 is just an updated Cryengine 2.
So it would be better called Cryengine 2,5.

Crysis 2 isnt optimizted; as you think of optimization with same quality but better performance @ the same time.

Crysis 2 uses more low res textures and limited draw distances. A heavy use of blureffects and a heavily limited LOD also reduce the power thats needed to run the game smoothly. So dont say Crysis 2 is "optimized" its just technically dumped down.

And from what ive heard today:
Crytek declines that a DX11 patch was even planed in the first place.

The problem with this comparison is that there isn't much to base it on. Basically, people are going to treat this as a Crysis vs Crysis 2 comparison, and as this section of the forums is dominated by PC users I can already guess how well this is going to go over.

In my opinion, judging the power and abilities of CryEngine 3 based on Crysis 2 would be like judging the power and abilities of Unreal Engine 3 based on Singularity, Alpha Protocol, The Punisher, or Enslaved.

C2 runs better because of the low res textures and because most of the Cryengine 2 features are missing, BECAUSE it was made first on the 360 and then ported to PC.
Crysis 1 looks better, and so Cryengine 2 is better than 3.

it is my own personal opinion that CE3 haves a lot of power and it bis better but, without the use of DX11 we really can not tell or see the power or improvements it haves in reality.

Without the DX11 this game looks better yes , but it also looks like more optimized graphics then really a better CE improvement, I have worked on Game Mods and graphics for a wile, and the one thing we can see when using a game version with a Game Engine and then compare to a new and better one is the Graphics , game effects, and the overall game mechanics or game play, this CE3 is by far more powerful but at the same time is being used at 50% of its capacity cause it is using DX9, not even 10, one of the things I was most exited and waiting for was to see this game on a current most common DX version that is the 11 version, but hell, at least 10, it was never in my thoughts that they (Crytek) spent so much time and resources creating a new game engine to just after use a older, older, very Antique DX version on it and that way taking of half the created Engine real capacity.


So in my opinion, this CE version yes it is better but way misused and it is far from what it can really offer.

Say what? C1 has the best fps A.I I've seen (Can't remember which mods I had tho). I've played 6 areas of C2 and I've seen more embarassing **** than in any fps so far, starting from original wolfenstein. edit: ...including community made bots on some fps i've had.
