According to the UESP (with the usual caveats about lore that statement implies), the Battle of Cryngaine Field took place on the island of Betony. This seems fairly logical, considering that it was during the, well, War of Betony. However, the battlefield doesn't show up in the game Daggerfall at all, and none of the three sources about the battle - the in-game books on the war by Vulper Newgate and Fav'te, and the Daggerfall Chronicles' Narrative - actually state that the battle did, and, in fact, I would say that they imply that it didn't.
The following facts are known about the battle's location:
- The Field was between the Ravennian Forest and Yeorth Burrowland, but those locations aren't known either.
- The previous battle had been at Reich Gradkeep (now Anticlere), a city quite a fair distance from Betony.
- The Sentinel army had fled from Reich Gradkeep to the Burrowland, in disorder, for an unknown but likely short amount of time (too long and the army would likely have been too scattered to reform).
- It took a week for each king to call for and receive reinforcements, likely ones who had been fighting elsewhere. According to the Daggerfall Chronicles, the previous battle had been in Glenpoint, north of Daggerfall, but those armies might have been the ones at Reich Gradkeep instead. Armies that had been on Betony or the nearby mainland seem likely.
All these in mind, I believe that the Battle of Cryngaine Field took place near the coastline of what is now Anticlere, after the Sentinel army fled towards where their ships would have been waiting. The relative locations of the Ravennian Forest and Yeorth Burrowland are less clear, but judging from the fact that the Sentinel army stopped due to Camaron getting control over them again rather than being cut off by Daggerfall's army, it is likely that the Forest is to the north and the Burrowland to the south.
Any bits of evidence I've missed?
