Crysis 2 6v6 MP - Official and very sad

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 5:16 pm

I even built a new rig with an i7 930 processor, DDR3 and an Nvidia gtx260 SLI just for Crysis 2. Crysis Wars is the ONLY game I play online. I was really looking forward to C2. This 6vs6 mp mode seems like the game is being held back so consoles can handle it. If this doesn't change, I will find a new game.

Just curiosity, why SLI260s when for less money you could have had the 460 1GB SC?

And to reiterate, Crytek has never said anything about technical limitations, and other games have proven that isn't the case. Crytek just wants to create a tactical MP.

Hmmm..... call of duty MW 2 has 6 vs 6 in TDM, domination, sabotage, demolition and so on (in normal mode).

I know that people complain about MW2, but till this day, none of my friends complained about the amount of players on a server. Neither had i seen a video regarding this as well.

So think about it, if the maps are as large as or as small as (however you would like to call it lol) MW2 maps, then 12 players are nice. BUT i do hope that they do throw in an option for larger players, like 18 (9 vs 9) such as MW2 ground wars.

I don't think they'll be putting that option in. They seem to be very adamant about the 12 players maximum. There probably won't be very many large maps, based on the small number of players. The game might be a multiplayer success if the community is large enough.

Crysis 2 will be nothing like MW2, comparisons will be made, of course.

There are some great game-play features that have popped up recently in other games that we have adapted to fit our world, but a clone it is not.

6 vs. 6 combat will take Crysis 2 MP to a whole different level, it focuses on the small team idea, everyone must try their hardest to succeed, it isn't as if someone will come along and pick up the slack, it makes the game-play fast and furious, along with the maps which complement the Nanosuit's strength, style, flexibility and adaptiveness quality.

So I just had a sudden realization about two things constantly being complained about here, that seem to be at odds with eachother.

"We don't want overpowered gunship killstreak rewards"

"We want VTOLs"

The difference I see here is you want the air assets to only belong to you personally at any given time on any given map?

So far it all looks like console run and gun with no tactical play. No thanks.

VTOLS yeah, they were a problem, overkill for those who bought one/flew one just to kill infantry on the ground, i coded in a block on that for our server at least, but of late i have removed all of that, after months of coding in restrictions and counter-balances based on hours of my own game-play and observations of other players and styles i see now it wasn't the fault of the game, but of how the players used their weapons/machines, you can't just say... air for air and ground for ground to a player as they start because those kinda rules are always bent or broken, you can't stop people having fun with that :)

I was looking forward to another flying vehicle in a sequel, here's hoping eh... oh and here's some VTOL/server tests i made recently...

Yeah I am not buying a game with some tiny multilayer maps with vehicles that can not be controlled.

Sounds good. But do you think there will be a large, healthy community?

I really think that if crysis 2 will have only 6vs6 match, it will be because it's more tactical with less people, in call of duty 4 i played little maps with a lot of people and it's not funny because you can't do a long killstreak unless you are a very good player, maybe i'm wrong but this is my opinion

Crysis 2 killstreak rewards aren't pure killstreak. You have the option to go physically collect a dog tag off your victims mangled corpse, if trying to do so won't get your head promptly turned into tuna salad, and the dog tags persist through death. I like this system, since it means the "first tool to the gauss rifle" can actually be dislodged eventually.

Sorry if I missed something, but what do dogtags have to do with killstreaks?

The dogtags are the physical killstreak mechanic. As in, you can camp in a high place with a gauss rifle all day and NEVER earn a gunship or radar sweep, because you haven't gone to their body and recovered their dog tags.

It encourages active gameplay over "race to the gauss rifle" crap.

Well then, that's awesome! Just out of curiosity, do you have a link to where you saw this?

I don't remember exactly where it was stated that you trade in dogtags for the rewards, but if you watch the right hand side during the MP footage, he doesn't get a new dogtag just for killing people. If you watch the dogtag count, it only goes up on kills where he actually runs up to the body.

Found a link

Not every kill drops a tag, and you have to physically collect the tag. Since getting them is more difficult than just sniping people from stealth mode next to the gauss spawn all day, they last through death.

From one or other of the interviews, I also gathered that the alien gunship is an automated thing that comes in strafing enemy locations, instead of focused deadly fire, and can be driven off with returned fire.

Meaning: Gunship doesn't own face, it just gives you a good tactical edge to flank. Unfortunately, I don't remember which interview that was. If someone does, and could provide a link, I'm sure it would be handy.

Cool! But... It says it's a mix between Halo and COD? I won't obsess over that statement, but I have played COD and it is a very generic shooter with one of the most immature, racist and vulgar communities I have ever seen.

Meh, I would take any opinions on the game with the severe heap of salt I take ANY opinion given over the internet with.

And of course the COD community is terrible, 3/4s of the Army plays it, and if you aren't a "hardcoe conservative" (Read: Borderline white supremacist dumb***) you don't fit in well with the majority of em. (Infantry at least, that was my painful and personal experience)

lol
I play a lot of cod and i agree...
I just turn my headset off and just play some games.
The messages you get on playstation network whit racist remarks or
just foul language is realy a big bug on ps3. They just pop up on the screen for every one to see including your kids and grandma...

back on topic...
I`m sure crytek knows what`s best for the game and i see no issue whit 6 vs 6.

Crytek might know what's best for the game... But the community might not agree. That results in nobody buying the game and no one playing it.

There are many good game that have small multiplayer counts. Uncharted 2 and Gears come to mind.

Smaller teams also mean that maps are much easier to design for the devs which means more good maps instead of the 3 or 4 that just get played over and over again.

Or you could think of it this way; less players per team means that it is less likely that there will be one of those 5 year old kids swearing through the mic at you. That could never be considered a negative.
