Crysis 2 6v6 MP - Official and very sad

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:24 am

As much as I like smaller servers in general, 6v6 seems a little small. I'd be happy to play with so few players, but the _option_ of a few more would probably be best to satisfy players, just as the option of a larger- or smaller-than "normal" server size is implemented in other games.

I'd advise players to think of what this means in other game features, and why suddenly changing teams to 12v12 or even 8v8 may be difficult for Crytek:
- Map size; currently maps are on the smaller size--adding more players would offset the game's careful balance.
- Controls & weapons; essentially the options you have to kill someone. A weapon with a certain amount of power now may be under- or over-powered if team size were changed
- Lag for worse computers; we all know this is one of the issues trying to be avoided here. But seriously, the addition of more players could be a game-breaker for the people with lame computers, myself included.

I suggest 6v6 be the norm for multiplayer, with server-hosts given the option to increase that to 8v8, 12v12, etc.

It has already been said by several websites that the multiplayer maps have plenty of space to expand the playercount on. In other words, 6on6 feels empty on many of the maps.

Lag for worse computers should also not be an issue, since the extra stress will be placed on the processor more so than the video card. Computers these days have processors that can easily handle the stress of increasing the playercount to 8on8 or 9on9. As long as you have a Core i5 or better, you will be perfectly fine handling more players.

More players do not always = better game. Look at MAG for ps3, just too many...

Well now, Crysis 2 DOES take place only in NYC, right? Well now how the,... Ehm, how do you imagine 16 players versus 16 players battling it out in a street cornerside cafe? Or ontop of a building with just one helipad and some greenhouses? Thought so... It's going to be ridiculous, having an enemy just behind the corner. The kills are going to roll out every second! It would turn out like those respawn servers in Counter Strike 1.6 where you spawn the second you die. At one point, it might get frustrating when you are stuck with 5 other random people who have no idea of teamwork gameplay and eventually going to get demolished by the opposing team who presumably might actually be good at it by chance. At the other point, say you have atleast 2 or 3 more friends with you, it's easier to set up team tactics and succeed in your objectives by playing as a team. My point is that although 6v6 might not mean uber-adrenaline-rushing-run'n'gun type of situation, it will offer great teamwork opportunities. It's all based on the map's size and structure. As I said, you can't pack in tight 32 players in a cinema... well you can but it will be pointless. Besides, if you look at it realistically, a 6 nanosuit equipped soldiers team can do alot of things and survive for a long time + dominate the battlefield.

although I'd like the ability to have more players in a single match, it is not a deal breaker for me.

I would just like to say that, it would be cool to have more players, but after playing the demo, i can't really complain, i mean, it is really different, it is exciting, and the more players, usually the less fun..lag...lag..lag..

Allright so it's going to be 6 vs 6 on consoles, but higher on pc.
I think this topic is pretty much finished.

Actually we're waiting for some of the Dev's final say I think. Either way I'm for the PC and I would be happy with 6v6 or more.

The restriction in players indicates a range of small maps to coincide with maintaining game flow, which in itself will contradict the emphasis on customisation altogether if theres no variety. As set out in the player classes (i.e. scout, sniper and so on) we each have individual gaming preferences so I sincerely hope a comprehensive range of both level playing areas and enough players to support them will be considered.

In brief... 6 vs 6??? :(

Yeah, the maps seem pretty bland right now. You can have small maps, with about 8 vs 8, different classes, and still have a good game. But the maps don't seem to be made for this. So far, it all looks like typical COD run and gun. Back when we had machines that could only handle small maps and player levels, the maps were far better thought out. Good examples are the mods Urban Terror (2.6), True Combat (beta .45, some 1.0 maps), and Infiltration. For small maps that can handle different classes together, map makers should take a look at the old maps for inspiration. Harbor from True Combat 1.0 comes to mind as a good map. It had a good mix of ground for both assault and sniping. Goodis St. from TC .45 and Docks and Eagle from Urban Terror also come to mind. Eagle was fun. A remake of the Castle on the mountain top from the movie "Where Eagles Dare", including the tram! Lot of fun sniping from the tram on the way up!

A little note to Crytek:

You have lots of time before the release to rethink this. Use the time wisely, listen to your potential customers, and I will be more likely to buy your game.

The Crysis 2 release is just around the corner. At this point, their probably ironing out a few bugs and preparing to have the game go gold.

There is no way Crytek could add something as significant as an increase in player cap in such a short amount of time.

I do agree with the OP though. For a game that's supposed to be "pushing boundaries" a 12 player cap is somewhat underwhelming and, in my opinion, quite a disappointment.

Remember, there's also no co-op modes to speak of. So Crysis 2 is basically a single player game and a 12 player multiplayer game with not that much content.
The demo did a great job in catching my interest in this game but I seriously don't think I'm willing to spend $60 on it. Perhaps, if I can get a deal somewhere or the game eventually goes down in price will I then really consider buying this.

Make it sort of like Killzone. 6v6, 8v8, 10v10, 12v12, 16v16. Simple. Everybody's happy!

I can't decide whether I agree or disagree. I think the possibility of larger games would be a lot of fun, but not a necessity. I'll use Halo: Reach as an example. Team Slayer (4v4) is fun and all, but Big Team Battle (8v8)'s fun just in its sheer ridiculousness in comparison. There are always people around to kill, very little waiting around for anything. I think it'd be great to have game modes with a higher player cap, but again, not needed for me to enjoy myself.

The effort required to change the number "12" to "32" in a .cpp file isn't exactly huge.

Then you'll have an awesome experience spawning exactly near a guy that will kill you before you draw your weapon because the game's maps are not made for 32 players.

Yeah 32 seems to be a little too much for Crysis 2.
I'd say a max of 24 would probably work quite well.

Well actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the people at Crytek UK did not play the original Crysis at all. The multiplayer in Crysis 2 is absolutely nothing like the original Crysis. They were probably told to "go make multiplayer and make sure to include the nanosuit." All I see is generic multiplayer with OMGNANOSUIT even though nanosuit 2.0 is downgraded from the original. I have absolutely no faith in the multiplayer and I'm setting my hopes on the singleplayer, since that is being made by the developers of the original Crysis. The PC demo might change my mind, but I doubt it.

Crytek UK have played the first one for sure, but this time they were going to make a new type of crysis. If you don't like this then play the singleplayer or the mods!

Then they should have started a new series or a spin-off (some kind of Crysis: Marine Force or the like....) , dont tell me its the sequel when it isnt. 6vs6 is too small; I can easily dominate the other team alone in MW2 and almost any shooter (on PC), its a matter of reflexes and how fast you gun down someone,in crysis wars,I needed my teammates to win since that the ammount of punishment you had to give to someone to make the kill was huge and i couldnt kill 3-4 people on the same mag, like i was able to do in the xbox demo

Note how game made by two different entities for the SP an MP have a great unbalance in quality. its like the new MoH, after playing the SP, I was pissed of how bad was the MP in comparison.

Now i would'nt be surprised to learn there are sticky grenade in crysis 2... :(

ahhhh pls 16 vs 16 at least at some larger maps ! ;)
its okay if there will be smaller maps with only 6 vs 6
i personally think the mix of matches with many players and matches with just a few is the best solution

Yeah the PC dedicated servers can change the amount of players above 12 (at least it could for crysis wars) BUT and its a big but, the more you put it over what it was designed for, the more unstable it becomes. going over 40 on crysis wars caused severe lag, so if you want to try 1 million, be my guest. And its not like the maps get any bigger when you go over 12 players. there still the same crappy console maps where you can throw a grenade from one side to the other.

stfu man, you have no idea what your on about. 6 vs 6 is a high player count? ****. i dont care if its a urban enviroment, ever heard of something called the streets, well there pretty big and have plenty of buildings up and down the sides of them. Would probably be good for a map of 32 players + vehicles. 64 would be epic. but id be fine with 32. anything below 32 is just a piss take for crysis and PC FPS games.
