Crysis 2 & Adrenaline Rush

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 7:10 pm

I rarely ever get an adrenaline rush during most normal FPS games because they don't be that fast paced compared to Crysis 2. So, I was playing earlier and after I then realized after doing extremely well compared to usual, I was having an adrenaline rush.

I'm not sure if this is bad for playing games or not for people, assuming people should be calm or not, but having a major adrenaline rush made me feel like I was floating on air and my senses jumped x10 fold; it felt great. And I started thinking, I usually do well almost always placing in the top 3 or top 6 at worst, but whenever I do extremely well and get #1.

So I'm not sure about any of you guys, but I realized the adrenaline rush, increased heart rate, and that intense feeling for me makes me just that much better. Every time I start playing Crysis 2 I do usually have to play a couple matches before I actually start doing well too. I've been playing games, especially FPS, a long time and Crysis 2 multiplayer is the first to give me such an adrenaline high. I feel like I'm in a daze, but really, really focused when it happens.

How many of you get a really high adrenaline rush? Does it make you better? And how would you explain the experience? I wish I could purposely make my body get the rush constantly win I play, because it's really helpful.

Whenever I play Crash Site Games or Instant Action Games, I always get adrenaline rushes and it does make me feel like my senses and body are shot up. Team Instant Action and other slower paced game types give me a little rush unless I get ganged up and manage to kill every enemy.

Yes it does help me improve my game and 95% of the time, I'm on the top 3 leaderboards. One problem though, it gets you exhausted easily.

Trust me, you ought to go have breaks after you get adrenaline high so much like I do. It helps me get more focused whenever my senses get shot up too much and I couldn't focus anymore. Lol, I think this is why I love playing multiplayer with this game.

You should know that your body might be getting addicted to adrenaline, and after a while your body will get used to it and you need more adrenailne to have that feeling back. Also, after you get the addiction and have it for a while, your normal perfomance is going to be far worse without adrenaline, and when you get the adrenaline, your perfomance is same as you were playing normally without adrenaline.

This is true. That's why I always take a break after I get shot up. It becomes a form of addiction really and any kind of addiction will never do any good.

Only game that has ever given me adrenaline rushes where my hands were cold and shaking was and is a Half Life 2 Mod called Hidden Source. I'd love to see it on Cryengine 2 or 3.

Yeah I've done the same...I know how you feel! Its when your in this hyped up mode and you are scoring a lotta kills in a row...you feel one with the game lol...its a good feeling

The last FPS I played competitively was Half-Life 2 Deathmatch and it used to give me a natural high during some intense matches (1v1s, 2v2s, and so on..) but after scrimming and practicing and pubbing quite often the adrenaline would drop a couple notches lower and I was more relaxed and focused and I would do even better. However, sometimes when I would get a higher rush I would kinda lose focus at times and not play as well. Just a natural thing our bodies do though, we react to things, even when its virtual.

By the way, you don't get addicted to adrenaline and adrenaline isn't what makes you feel "good". Adrenaline increases heart rate, reaction time, and pain tolerance, but the feel good hormone is dopamine. That stuff is what you're addicted to.

In the MP mode i get adrenaline very often...and always on Crash Site when your opponent has 145 and you 140 and you hold the crash site all by yourself ^^.
But in SP...i don't feel that rush, and i think that quick time events are not stimulating enough.

If you want adrenaline from playing a game you need to play EVE online for a real fix :). The prospect of loosing weeks or months of hard work in a fight or a blind jump is sure to get your heart pumping.

I usually get an adrenaline rush in CoD4 SnD (Promod or Pam4) when I'm the only one on my team left against a whole enemy team. Oh wait that's just me crapping myself. Nah I generally only get adrenaline rushes on racing games (Dirt 2) when I'm playing against friends online.

I commonly get adrenaline rushes on Halo PC, on the smaller maps, shotguns, no shields, playing King of the Hill or Oddball (where you have to hold the skull for an amount of time to win). It's a real rush when you grab the skull or jump in the hill and see 10 enemies running towards you while shooting their shotguns and throwing grenades all over you...

0.o Care bears game? lol

But, back on topic, it's interesting to see this from other peoples perspective. One thing I hate more than anything in playing FPS is DYING, which is probably one of the main reasons that triggers my flight or fight adrenaline rush. As everyone has stated though, it feels great.

Are you talking about adrenaline rush or the in-the-zone kind of thing?

Wouldn't increasing dopamine to the body increase concentration then?
I quote Wiki:

"The effects of drugs that reduce dopamine activity
In humans, drugs that reduce dopamine activity (neuroleptics, e.g. antipsychotics) have been shown to impair concentration, reduce motivation, cause anhedonia (inability to experience pleasure), and long-term use has been associated with tardive dyskinesia, an irreversible movement disorder.[25] Antipsychotics have significant effects on gonadal hormones including significantly lower levels of estradiol and progesterone in women whereas men display significantly lower levels of testosterone and DHEA when undergoing antipsychotic drug treatment compared to controls. Antipsychotics are known to cause hyperprolactinaemia leading to amenorrhea, cessation of normal cyclic ovarian function, loss of libido, occasional hirsutism, false positive pregnancy tests, and long-term risk of osteoporosis in women. The effects of hyperprolactinemia in men are gynaecomastia, lactation, impotence, loss of libido, and hyposemantogenesis.[26] Furthermore, antipsychotic drugs are associated with weight gain, diabetes, drooling, dysphoria (abnormal depression and discontent), fatigue, sixual dysfunction, heart rhythm problems, stroke and heart attack. Selective D2/D3 agonists pramipexole and ropinirole, used to treat restless legs syndrome (RLS), have limited anti-anhedonic properties as measured by the Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale (SHAPS).[27]"

I am referring an actual adrenaline rush that the body produces.
