Crysis 1 and Crysis 2 story contradiction and discussion

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:15 am

Hi there,

I don't know if I shouldn't have said contradiction and it might be too early to talk about it before I finish the game (well without the patch everyone knows it's kinda frustrating) but I still am wondering. In the first game we had the whole group and lost 2 of our members. Then we had Prophet, Psycho, and of course Nomad. So we fought North Koreans, killed aliens, sabotaged their base yadi yadi yada, so in the end Prophet went back to the island to prevent aliens from spreading (who knows what happened there) and Nomad was going somewhere else as well.

Now we have Crysis 2. It's newyork. No one knows where they came from or how they settled down and look so much different than the aliens in the first game. And yet there they are they have guns like ours, helicopters like ours etc. First of all how come prophet was assigned to a mission and Psycho's and Nomad's names are not even mentioned in the story. Forget about that the whole game makes you feel like you are just playing a shoot'em up game because the story is completely different than Crysis 1 and you cannot quite follow what's really happening.

Anyway it's 3 am in the morning I've got school tomorrow. I really liked it so far, but there is something lacking big that makes you feel like you are not completely in there. I remember I was playing the first game I was lost in the beauty. I was completely in the game (especially in the second part).

I am not trying to say that the game is bad. I think it's amazing to see how they've optimized their engine and understood that we don't have to zoom in the water with our sniper and see the details of it with our NASA built computer. I am just trying to say that I think even though the script (so far I've come) looks good, there is still a lot of ambiguity when you take this game as a sequel to Crysis 1. Looks like we should play this game considering that it's not related to Crysis 1 because neither the story line nor aliens nor the atmosphere of the game (aliens, their ships, guns etc) looks related. I wanted to mention again that Crysis 2 is a beautiful game but I just couldn't associate to the prequel.

Thanks for understanding.

Personally, I have no idea how they mix together. I'm going to pretend they don't, because what happened to the story is like a slap in the face (and a blatant attempt to clone Halo). DC comics used to have (and does again) Earth 1, Earth 2, etc. with different heroes who were variants on the same theme. Still their details were different. I'm going to pretend Crysis 1 is on Crysis Earth 1 and Crysis 2 on Crysis Earth 2. It's the only way I have to make sense of this whole mess. I'm reading through Crysis: Legion to try and make sense of it, but it's not helping one whit yet.

so you guys are telling me you REALLY don't know why they left so many details regarding what happened between the 2 games vague?

Really?

Come on...it's called bridging DLC...like Severed for DS2 only, you know, more story oriented

Oh, I figure they're going to make more content to bridge it, as you say. I'm just saying I don't see any way to reconcile the two stories. They're fundamentally contradictory, and doing so will require them to throw all sorts of stuff out the window.

Crysis 1 was a clone of Halo: Combat Evolved

Once you beat the game you'll understand the connection. The games are set rather far apart but they are in no way unrelated. Collect the emails, listen to the dialogue, and watch the cut scenes. Some answers are there!

Hi,

When I beat the game I'll type my thoughts about the story line. But guys think about it. What kind of bridge do you expect when we have a new nano suit in development "Nano Suit 2". Are you going to like playing with nano suit 1? I don't think that with the new toys that we have, it's almost impossible to make a bridge to this game as it won't give new toys to the players but take them. If they try to cover the island, it'll basically be a fail. Like I said lets finish the this one first and see what we've got. Even the Crysis 1 and Warhead kind of script won't work here because Nomad won't have the same suit as Alcatraz does (Alien tech). It really pissed me off how they didn't talk about the island or the rest of the team. I feel like Prophets back up should have been Nomad and Psycho somehow. I think I'll play Crysis 1 again after this.

Correct me if I am wrong guys, we are just discussing here. And thanks for keeping the discussion clean.

Thanks

Crytek said way back that Crysis 2 is going to be a reboot of the series. With a reboot, they are basically saying we are going to keep the general theme of the original, but anything we didn't like from the first game, we are going to disregard.

In truth, it's a reboot and a sequel at the same time, which makes the amount of stuff that doesn't coincide with the first game even higher.

uh? no no I believe you I just did not hear about it

but then again if that is the truth then it's not that bad. It could be worse right?

I mean look at DA2, The game ripped you away as far as possible from the original and it was not even a reboot...

Wasn't Crytek also yapping about some 3rd dimension getting involved in the game? Like alien flyers or something? They didn't follow through on half the stuff they said they'd do for Crysis 2.

*SPOILER ALERT*

I've never really had a problem with the fact that the aliens look so much different and such, because *SPOILER ALERT* at the end of the game they say that the aliens have been underneath the ground all that time lying dormant, so I just think of it as each location the aliens are different, like we have different races around the world. What I'd be interested in is the aliens having a war among themselves.

They pretty much retcon'd anything they didn't like in the original. So there's no conflicts between the story Since as far as crysis 2 goes, crysis 1 may as well not happened.

Hi,

That rebooting really broke my heart man. I was looking forward to what happened back there to Prophet and what made him go back to the island so bad. I just hate it when they change the scenario that rapidly. That's why I think people should write the complete series in book and then make something out of it cuz unless then it is subject to change and the change might be major and the rest we know of is left over.

To be honestly frank, they should treat this like producers in a tv show, they should try to bubble in all of the possibilities and make it work together without loosing anything to the original content.

Hey,

I've beaten the game and really disappointed by the end guys. I liked the idea where you meet the maker of the suit and stuff but it just doesn't fit. Where they came from, how they evolved, how they settled, what made them act right now. They mention somehow, but I think rebooting the title didn't just work out perfect. It was an amazing game tho. When I get the chance to play in 3d and the AI bugs are fixed I'll definitely beat the game again.

most games take from others just closing your eyes and saying crysis is a halo clone doesnt help much

also halo looks like a big colourful fart in the breeze made for the lil kiddies i would much rather play crysis 1 or 2
