Crysis 2 Blank screen

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 5:48 pm

Hi, I've just bought Crysis 2- played through Crysis 1 and Warhead- great games.

Anyway, I'm experiencing a problem with Crysis 2 and after googling- I see them I'm not alone.
First of all, RIG is

AS Rock AMD Socket 754 K8 Upgrade Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 bit processor (3700+)
2GB Ram
Windows Xp Pro
Geforce 7950 GT 512 memory

Anyway, the problem I'm experiencing is that the cut scenes work fine, but when the game starts i get a few seconds of normal play then the screen goes blank- I can change the resolution of the game and I can maybe get a few more seconds of play before the screen goes blank again.
It seems that the screen goes blank when I maybe get some voice overs in the back ground -like when you you are in the room with Prophet, near the start- everything is fine, but as soon as I melee the padlock and walk through to the next room- you get a bit of radio voice over and then the screen goes blank... very frustrating.

I know my machine can run the game- seems to be a bug- are crytec working on a solution?- googling the problem- I'm not alone it seems.

I've patched the game to 1.4- both automatically and manually- re installed- also updated my graphics card drivers- tried beta drivers too and also reinstalled DX9 -nothing so far works.

Any advice anyone?
Cheers

What do you mean by "it goes black", does it fade to black or instantly turn black? Does your monitor say "No signal" when this happens?

No, it fades to black- the game is still running in the back ground- with sound and I can still hear my character walking or interacting- I just cant see the screen!
When I go into options and change the screen resolution the I can get my screen back- but it fades away again within seconds.

Yes, my monitor works fine through out- its definately a Crysis 2 issue- not my monitor or PC or drivers- all my other games generally work fine.

My card is an AGP card- not PCI-E just for the record.

Haven't found a solution yet- or seen on posted on the internet.

Would appreciate any help to get my game up and running.

-Anyone else on here using Geforce 7950 GT AGP graphics card?

Someone here had the same problem and it was due to his power supply, maybe time for a new PSU?
Crysis 2 does need a good system to run it, at least with the nice graphics on.
When you overclock your graphics card does the same thing happen?

I've got a 550 Watt PSU in the PC -which I reckon should do it.
I appreciate that you need a good system -weird thing is that I can get some onscreen graphics by changing the resolution -but it only lasts a few seconds then fades to black.

I've not tried overclocking the graphics card - might give it a go- but I'm just curious to see if there is a fix yet.

Some fixes seem to be- 'turn exerything up to Extreme' -tried that- didn't work.

Is there a way I can set the resolution smaller than 800 X 600?- I've seen people mention 400 X 300- but can't see an option.- might have been an unpatched version before 1.4 - perhaps.

Considering changing my Geforce 7950GT to a xfx radeon hd 4650 agp.

Anyone got any advice?- will the xfx radeon hd 4650 agp run Crysis 2- is it a step up from the 7950GT?
