So far today, Crysis 2 has taken out a Monitor and a Video Card. Nice!

A game will not fry your video card in fact no piece of software can, unless it changes the safety in the settings in the GPU BIOS. ALL GPUs are equipped to stop if harm starts to befall them, EX: to much heat you GPU will back off to 2d setting to prevent damage.

You had a clear problem...and kept playing C2 instead of dealing with the issue.

Darwinism, computer style.

Anything that stresses the card causes temperatures to rise, it just happened to be C2 that he was playing.

if it was a heat issue and the GPU did not stop itself from dying the GPU already had an issue before playing crysis2.

My computer wasn't overheating did you read my post at all? I checked my temps while playing after the first time specifically because I thought it was. Nope. If 55c is overheating for a video card then just shoot me. My video card has a giant fully functioning dual fan heatsink on it.

And more system intensive games like ArmA2 work perfectly fine. This has ONLY Happened wth Crysis 2 and no other games, even ones that tax my video card more to produce higher temperatures, cause this to happen.

Explain that before reading my title and coming up to random conclusions?

It does sound like you had a faulty card to start with.

Sorry for your loss? (Also, are you saying you're paying like $60 for shipping, or are you adding the price of Crysis 2 in there...?)

I blamed games for my GTX 280 failing, specifically MOH as that was the only game causing the lockups. Then it started happening with other games further down the road.. Then I realized there was a hardware problem not a software one. Turned out my MB was failing and it damaged my card. Unfortunately I replaced my PSU, GPU and my Ram before discovering the root issue. Nvidia has a superb warranty on all their cards and, unless you you should contact them for a replacement. They are very reasonable about that and the turn around might not be as bad as you think. But before installing the replacement card have your MB properly tested.

That happened to my friends 8800gt he shut his computer down after playing Crysis 2 and the next day his screen did not start. I tried his graphics card in my computer too and nothing showed up on my screen, tried it with one of one gfx cards in it and his, went into the device manager and it did not show his card. Could just be a coincidence...

edit: what are you full system specs?

My 8800gt runs Crysis 2 at 100C during hot summer heat with no AC.
However when I do overclock the core too high I get the same black screen problem you described.

No frying yet. :)

PC Games will never cause a video card to fail. If your video card got fried, it overheated. If it overheated without automatically disabling itself, then tehre was a problem with your card to begin with.

Geez, invest in some proper airflow (I got an awesome CM fan for like $7 on Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835130022 )! I live in the desert and my room is the only one in the house without a connection to the ventilation system and my card never gets that hot. Don't take a chance. Running a 570 BTW

My last video card died while playing Crysis 1 about 3 weeks ago (hd5870), i didnt come here saying crysis killed it as it wasn't possible, it was me that killed it, i pushed the card to hard with voltage tweaks and an overclock and it fried, i freely admit it.

I'm not saying you did the same as me what i'm saying is, just because you happen to be running a game when your card died doesn't mean the game you were playing made it die, simple as that.

That svcks that your video card died. However I do think that chances are the card had a problem to begin with. Have you checked the card for any burns/blown caps? I'd think that if it did overheat to death there would be noticeable artifacts before a full blown failure. I'd do some more snooping around.

probably overclocked too much? I know that after a little bit of playing Crysis 2, my gtx 560 Ti downclocks from the overclocked settings of 950/1900/2200 down to stock 900/1800/2104 after a bit, but hey Crysis 2 is still like its predessor, still tearing up computers since 2007. (no matter how many people argue its a console port and fails for excluding DirectX 11)
