Bad?
It's not bad at all, it's a quad core so you should be fine really , you don't need a high end i7 for gaming....
And your graphics card is also good, you should have no problems running Crysis 2.

Crysis 2 on pc will not a console port, so it won't be as much cpu taxing as games like GTA IV.

On consoles yes.
Did you see how the PC version looks on DX11 maximum settings? nope
So untill then, you can't really say that.

Maybe an upgrade to a Phenom II X4 would suit you better, but otherwise you are perfectly fine.

Nah, the athlon II is fine. At most it's about 20% behind a phenom II 955. If it doesn't run on your quad it won't run on much OP!

(although i'm sure to get decent performance cpu wise now i've ordered my 2500K! :D)

I've got the exact same processor and I would not call it "bad" in the slightest. 2.9 GHz may not be top of the line, but the healthy four cores make it decent for gaming. So far there's been no game I can't run if I turn the settings down far enough (e.g. Bad Company 2, New Vegas, anything on the source engine, Dead Rising 2... etc.)

You will be OK

because Cryengine 2 (crysis 1 and WH) used only 1 or 2 Cores of the CPU, like most engines, so crysis 1 just uses like 50% of your Cpu power

But Cryengine 3 (Crysis 2) is an engine that Supports up to 8 cores, that means that Crysis 2 will be able to use all your CPU power

8 core support seems kind of underpowered when that is going to max out the CryEngine's capabilities even just later this year when the octo-core lineup starts rolling out from processing companies. :D

If Crytek truly wanted to future proof the engine in case a new console release is still far off, they should have designed it to support up to 12 cores.

Even the "future proof" CryEngine 2 only uses four of my six cores and barely puts a load on them.

Its not future proofing when you don't include support like that, its just bad coding. :|

they can do everything on consoles thx to the engine running the cpu up the yang
your athlon isnt a beast by no means but since the game will use every core
should be able to handle the game yet dont be suprised to be 5-10fps behind from same puter with a better cpu
