Crysis 2: disc to play?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:09 am

Hi all,

I am tossing up between getting the PC version on Steam or from retail and I am not sure if the retail versions will require the disc to play the game or if they'll do what they did for Warhead and just activate the game over the internet and let you play without the disc.

I'd say, get the Steam version, cause we all know Steam copies are not going to need to disc.

You might just need the disc to start the game.

No it won't required the disc to play, when was the last time you played a pc game that requires a disc? i bought all my games retail including bfbc2 which is also an EA game and so far none of them requires the disc to play; all you have to do is choose the online activation method when installing.

The game only requires the DVD for installation and first time activation. Just playing the game in general won't require the disc.

Mass Effect 2, Crysis 1, Crysis War Head/wars, I'd have to check with my friends, but I think Dead Space is the same way. But just because alot of new games are going with the no disc to play thing, but not all games are going that way, some are still using the damn "YOU NEED THE DISC TO PLAY" system, it'll take a few more years until more jump on the banwagon. Now if Crytek comes out and say "Hey, the PC version of Crysis 2, will not need a disc to play it, just to install it", then I'll agree with you.

I don't think Crysis 2 will require the disc to play. NFSHP and MOH doesn't require. Internet connection is required for initial activation of the key code.

Please if you can! I don't want to be running steam in offline mode to play the game though I hope the recent leak of the game doesn't change the way the DRM will be implemented in the retail versions.

i really don't want to be carrying discs when i plan to see if it runs on my Alienware M11x.

I prefer the disc to play above the EA-server required to install.

I just bought it on steam, so much less hassle :)

Also, it's about £2 more than online retail anyway in the UK, so there's not an issue with price :)

now that's you, but some people, like me, who likes to watch movies on their computer, or likes to be able to open up the game at any time with out having to hunt down the disc, would prefer the "No Disc needed" set up.
Also I don't think "EA-Server required to install" is a bad thing, it just means less likely to be pirated. And if it's any thing like StarCraft 2's set up, if you lose the disc, you can still install it using the EA Download Manager.

I hate having to use DVD to turn on the game. Scratches on my precious DVDs, time, and having top of my PC constantly covered with boxes.

And that's why i prefer Steam DRM.

What I want to know is if there'll be an activation limit on the retail version and, if there is such a limit, if it'll also be present on the Steam version.

I don't buy games with activation limits as it effectively makes said games rentals.
