Crysis 3 does not like o/c'd hardware.

Post » Tue Jul 09, 2013 1:28 pm

Okay so I upgraded my rig a few months back to a 2500k and gtx 470. At stock speeds I play C3 on vh 30+fps all day. As soon as I o/c the gpu or the cpu or both it'll close to desktop every 10 mins or so. I have tested every component for stability and they all pass at the o/c speeds. I can play any other game at the o/c speeds just fine for hours with no issue. Someone else must have gone through this because according to a tomshardware article it's one of the top 5 trouble shooting tips for C3. It was listed as a well known issue for C3 stating that C3 didn't like overclocked hardware. My previous rig was an i5 750 o/c and a gtx 560 ti o/c and it ran C3 just fine. It really makes no sense.

u should be able to oc 2500k, gtx470 for c3 mp, but just don't oc em to max limit.
i'd probably run the cpu @ ~4ghz(if u have good hsf) n run the gpu at stock speed.

try ~8hr prime95 torture test for cpu stability when u oc(check temp too), n ~8hr valley benchmark loop for cpu/gpu stability. http://secure.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=66223
should be able to run c3 mp without any issue if ur system can pass prime95 n valley.

Thanx but I've already stress tested my system and it's 100% stable. I have no problem with any other game but C3. I played BF3 for 3 hours the other night with no problem. I can play the C3 sp for anywhere from 10 mins to two hours but it will at some point close to desktop everytime. I just reinstalled C3 on my old rig and I have the same problem there now. If I overclock anything it closes to desktop at random intervals. So I know it's the game if it refuses to run on a system it ran flawlessly on before. I mean the game runs great at stock clocks but i have to turn the detail down to high for mp. It just svcks that everytime I wanna play C3 now I have to revert to stock clocks. Fortunately i also own C3 on the 360 so I guess I could just get mp fix there but it's just not the same.

np, try prime95 torture test for 12+hrs n check the cpu max load temp after the test(use cpuid hardware monitor etc) @ 4.0-4.2ghz etc.
ur cpu should be able to handle c3 mp if the cpu doesn't overheat n pass 12+hrs on prime95.

okay so I just played a round of mp without a problem. I had everything on their o/c settings and I had no problem. I usually can't get through a match. I did the 12+ hrs pf prime a few weeks back and since I'm on water @ 4.2ghz I was only at 52c. I had a crazy idea though. What if it's a driver issue? I can't remember the driver number that was out when C3 came out. I could start there and work my way up till I hit a driver that cause the problem. I had this theory when I mentioned that my 560ti ran just fine and now all of a sudden it won't run mp without closing to desktop either. I only have nvidia cards so I can't test a radeon card next to them. Do you happen to remember the driver number around when C3 came out?

Stress testing means absolutely nothing when it come to the Cryengine 3. It took me almost 2-3 months to finally figure out how to configure my system for C3 OC

I went through just as your did, passed with flying colors but when C3 was loaded it plummeted.

Cryengine likes voltage, even rig is different though which require different treatment

Fermi overclocked cards become unstabled in some games, had a lot of problems with gts 450 with overclocking at strong games like crysis 2 and metro(some years ago), fps were even less then before overclocking, and drivers worked unstable even at overclock in 1-2%)) i overclocked my processor and forget about such cards overclock =)

I have to agree, I think it may be my card + the drivers. I just reinstalled my 560ti and wiped the drivers and reinstalled those as well and now it works just fine. The 470 however still has the same issue. I'm confident it's a driver issue. When I was using the 560 ti as my primary I had it at 1050mhz and after driver xxx whatever it wouldn't o/c past 999. No matter what I did it would only go as high as 999. So I have no doubt that the newer drivers are causing a conflict with the fermi cards. My cards get up to 88c o/c to 850 stable. I've had people tell me that C3 doesn't like hot running cards and some have told me it's the card itself. The game runs stable on all of my other games.

Right on the money. I'm running 2500k @ 4.9 vc 1.43 with 3 580's. I'm prime stable for> 24hours, yay. But when it comes to crisis 3 I get a lot of "pull" on my ax1200. The culprit always seems to be my +3.3v line. Under heavy loads in MP or if I even breathe an ounce of OC on my 580's I get freezes. Not bsod's just freezees requiring a hard reset. When I look at my voltages just prior to lock up on my logitech lcd, my 3.3 line is always like around 2.9. It's not a psu failure I dont think as I'm getting the same issue with 2 different psu's unless 1200 isnt enough but I dont think thats it. One thing I did sort out it using custom braided lines can be an issue as I was getting +12v drop to 11.4 until I went back to OEM Corsair cables. Everyones problems are unique, these are mine lol.....Dunno bout heat as Im running EK blocks all around, chipset, and ram. Under load never goes passed 50c.....
