Crysis 2, DX9, REALLY???? WTF!!!!

Post » Fri Feb 20, 2009 5:18 pm

Just got home with my new copy of Crysis 2, Installed it and was amazed at what I saw from the EVGA Precision Software. DX9!!! WTF!! Crysis 1 was DX10 and looked amazing, and now many years later, Crytek is using DX9??? That is a huge step backwards!!! Wow, I must say I am really dissapointed!! I was really looking forward to putting my 3 GTX480's to work with some DX11 Loven', when just one of my cards chews up the game and spits it out. I must admit the graphics are amazing, but you can really tell the "depth" of the floors/walls etc is just not as good as Crysis 1 with DX10.
Dont get me wrong, Im happy that my system handles it well, but Crysis has always been a game for the Extreme PC Gamer who put a lot high end hardware in there systems to be able to enjoy what Crysis had to offer, and to be able to play "The Way It's Meant to be Played"

Not feeling really "peachy" about the $64.19 I just spent.....I have seen post's about a DX11 patch. I would have thought this would have been built deep into the code a long time ago, not some after thought when they seen PC gamers expecting DX11 support from the start.....

Sad, very sad and dissapointing.....Hope Crytek pulls though for all of us who have DX11 Graphic Cards!!!

Yeah, and all they're going to be is "DX11 features." It's not DX11 and highly doubt it will ever be DX11. Here's some DX9 with some pretty lens flares. Enjoy!

Ridiculous.

The game does NOT look better than Crysis 1, you're insane. Have you played the final retail PC version? The first vehicle I ran into, a white humvee, looked like the hummer in crysis 1 before the textures loaded. All of the textures look low res, the gun takes up 1/4 of the screen, the lighting is overdone and unnatural, etc. The fact that all 3 versions were developed simultaneous says nothing about their quality. The PC version is OBVIOUSLY and upressed version of the PS3 and 360 versions. The game was "optimized" for consoles, and the pc got whatever worked best on the consoles.

Max out Crysis 1 with no mods and play it for 5 mintues, then max out Crysis 2 for 5 minutes and I dare you to tell me Crysis 2 is better looking.

Take off your nastalgia goggles. Crysis 1 isn't that impressive anymore, Not to mention that two 6990's in crossfire can barely run the game at decent framerates. The game was poorly optimized.

Return it if you can. Go to where you got it and demand a refund. Idk where you have been, but you should not have bought the game without doing a little research first.

As for this "dx11 patch" everyone is talking about, Not 1 person at crytek has said anything of the sort. Its not on the crysis website, its not on the crytek or cryengine 3 website. Nvidia does not have this game listed as a dx11 game. There is no reason to believe there will ever be dx11 for crysis 2.

CryEngine 3 does not have dx11, this game does not and will not have dx11. This is a console port :(

I have two GTX 580's and the game runs pegged @60fps with vsync on and everything set to very high. A game that arguably looks as good as any game in existence after three and a half years is not nastalgia, it's adoration for a stunning game.

"Crysis 1 isn't that impressive anymore"

What happened? Did it sit out in the rain? Come on, this game looks exactly the same (awesome) as it did in 2007.

I'm pretty sure the kid is a huge crytek fanboy who just can't accept that crysis is a huge disappointment. he'll continue to favor crysis 2 even with all teh shortcomings. just leave him be, he'll come to his senses when the shock wears off

then its not your graphics card bottlenecking.. i have a gtx 460 atm and i run crysis 1 maxed out on 1440x900 above 30 FPS.. so there is no reason why a single 6990 shouldnt be able to run this game at 1920x1080 at 60+ FPS.. and crossfire should run it in triple screen above 40 so yea

No it doesn't, the engine might be capable of looking better than Cryengine 2 but as it is right now with Crysis 2 it doesn't look better as the original Crysis, the entire game looks muddy, almost washed out textures, feels as if you are playing inside a shoebox.

Nice post. This confirms what I though years ago when we first heard about CryEngine3 working on consoles after being repeatedly told that CryEngine2 could not.

It was OBVIOUS that 3 was going to be dummied down, and you sir just proved it with those pics. Now to be fair, you should make another comparison after we get the graphical upgraded promised later on. I still doubt it will make those bland textures better than Crysis 1.

It isn't because of this that I'm passing on this game until it hits bargain price, it is also the idiotic concept that in an age where piracy is being blamed for poor sales, you increase the price by at least 20% as if that is going to encourage people to buy when they were passing at $50! And the fact that single player is short as hell, which is all I am interested in anyway. Far Cry, Crysis...I didn't buy those games for the multiplayer.

Sorry Crytek, you've lost a day one, sight unseen buyer.

Yeah, C1 makes C2 look like crap. I've yet too see anything in C2 compares to those.
