Here's something I'd like to complain about. I agree with most of the other complaints on this thread, but I've never seen anything about this. Why can't I save my singleplayer game? I mean, it does save, but if Crytek promised not to make a total console port, then why is there only autosave? It's really annoying not to have the freedom to save when you want, and sometimes when I die I don't even bother playing on, because I have no idea of/ influence on where I'll restart.
I play on PC, of course.
MINOR SPOILERS!
So, the things you had in the first game, but ruined in the second:
User-friendly save games. (Lazy console port).
Graphic tweak options. (Lazy console port).
The protagonist being able to talk. (It doesn't make sense that Alcatraz never says a word).
The story. (You totally abandoned the old story, and simply didn't mention what happened at Ling Shan).
Your graphical edge. (Crysis had a healthy focus on graphics, where Crysis 2 just got lazy and stopped trying).
Weapon customization. (True, you had some customization in Crysis 2, but you couldn't attach sniper scopes to SMGs etc.).
Freedom of choice. (I don't know why, but I don't really think you have a choice concerning your playstyle. Every time I play, I end up doing exactly the same, which might have something to do with the areas being smaller, not being able to kill by throwing objects, (which you also somewhat removed from Crysis with an update), and the next issue).
No secondary missions. (Need I write more?).
Destructibility. (You can't really destroy anything in Crysis 2, unlike Crysis, where barrels were my preferred weapon, and crushing people with their own building was my kill style. Besides, what's the point of coming to New York, if I can't destroy everything?).
Military syle. (I don't know if this is good or bad, but in Crysis you were a soldier, in a squad, doing military objectives. In Crysis 2 you're just some random grunt, who has a dogtag around his neck, and apparently blindly follows orders from anybody who can connect to his radio).
Not being able to skip the developer animations at the beginning of the game. (WHY!? Why do they have to be there in the first place? Can't they just be in the corner of the main menu or something? It makes me so depressed, that sometimes, I don't even want to play the game by the time I've started it. And when that's done, you'll see another sign of LCP, (Lazy Console Port): The dreaded; "PRESS ENTER TO START"!).
(Tara Strickland. (She had much more potential that you used in Crysis 2. Simply being a CIA agent or whatever, just didn't really connect with the old story)).
These aren't all the problems Crysis 2 has, you already know those I'm sure. But these are the thing that you downgraded from the excellent prequel.
Of course, nobody will know before they buy the game, because this won't be on any reviews. Most sites that review games do it on XBOX 360, so they're completely blind to the many flaws on PC, (I know, consoles have some problems too). So, if a PC gamer finds a couple of reviews of Crysis 2, He'll probably think; "Oh. That's not too bad. And all these problems are probably only on the consoles. Crytek has always put so much effort into their PC games, so why should I worry? Besides, the review was pretty darn positive, and the game can't be that different on the PC. I'll go buy Crysis 2 right now, because I've done my research, and I trust Crytek. They've never let me down before." So though Crytek may have sold their soul, you've got to give them credit for this: They're good at tricking people into buying their games...
So Crytek. Stick to PC, stick to jungles, stick to mutants, just stick to something that works instead of using more time and energy hyping people, and making commercials, than you did making the actual game.
(Since you were dumb enough to ruin your reputation, I just thought I'd make this totally clear. Just in case you didn't understand. This was NOT a positive thing. I DON'T think Crysis 2 was a worthy sequel. I WON'T buy your next game, I'm not that stupid. Was that dumbed down enough for you Crytek? I sure hope so, cause I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who was disappointed about Crysis 2).
One last thing. It's OK to be mad at Cevat Yerli. If he doesn't like it, he shouldn't have written "A Cevat Yerli Game" in the introduction to the suit. Responsibility!
All the best, (no wait, that's not it):
Anarki
Thank you for that good list. Although I don't like all the hate going on here, and I also find some of your language irritating, I agree to the points directly relating to the game.
