-Dragon's Crysis 2 Impressions, Glitches, and More-
I was one of the people who pre-ordered this game, had high hopes as I was a fan of Crysis 1. Although I enjoyed the original Crysis, it had it's flaws; I however would have suspected that these issues would have been ironed out in the sequel. Am I wrong for making such an assumption? Anyways, I don't know really where to begin with this one, ever since I bought the game I have been met with countless frustration and inconveniences. At this point, I'm starting to think that maybe it would be easier to talk about what this game did right as unfortunately this list is a lot more straightforward than the game's shortcomings..
I suppose Crytek is to be partly commended as I did thoroughly enjoy the Single Player experience, and although it is indeed much more linear than Crysis 1 I felt the presentation and gun mechanics were quite improved (for example, no "Invincible Korean" glitch when sniping with assault rifle from far range). What everyone has said here about some of the bugs are true, so I don't feel it's as necessary to elaborate so much on it. Personally, I'm not sure if I've ever been faced with the Magic 'Catalyst Glitch as I never really used it in-game. At most I only bought a few of the suit upgrades and never bothered to check them much afterwards, and if my 'Catalyst was decreasing, I had not noticed it as there were so many aliens dying by my hand that I didn't bother keeping track of it. At times the AI would just stand there as I pumped them full of bullets, but it didn't happen often enough for it to be a major concern. After completing the Single Player Campaign, what respect I had for this game diminished as soon as I clicked on "Multiplayer"...
I really don't know where to begin. I'm not joking, I seriously cannot believe the multiplayer component of this game is so broken. To be brutally honest, it's borderline unplayable. In all of my years as a dedicated PC gamer, I have never been so absolutely overwhelmed by how butchered the online experience is. As with many other people here, I was unable to log onto my account to access multiplayer. At first I had problems signing on, but after wasting enough time screwing with the game and my account settings, I was finally able to log in and access the server browser. Here lies the next few sets of frustrations: I could not join any servers. The game kept claiming my CD Key was in use, and I had difficulty redeeming my Preorder bonus as well. When I was actually able to get that problem corrected, I still could not join a single damned server! It's completely ridiculous not being able to connect to 95% of the servers out there, and the few I can connect to are mostly just lobbies with anxious players waiting patiently for the server to start. I used to be one of those people until after enough failures, I realized the servers weren't ever going to start... Sometimes it suddenly comes up with a timer saying "Match begins in 260 seconds" and people suddenly get exited. In their minds they're thinking "I've been trying to get into a game for 40 minutes, and it's finally going to begin!" but I know better. Do you think I enjoy being the bearer of bad news, where just about every server I join, I have to go into the chatroom and tell the people that no, the server will not start, and if a timer actually shows up, the damned thing freezes at 1 second and the just sits there, ticking, almost like it's taunting us.
I'm truly sorry if this is turning more into an unorganized rant / rage rather than a detailed anolysis of the problems the game faces, but it's difficult to stay focussed on every one problem when there are so many of them ;-;. To sum up the above paragraph, most servers don't work, ranked or unranked. You'll have a better chance at getting an unranked game up, but it's still rare to find a server that actually works. Also, it's worth mentioning that the servers don't seem to keep track of your weapon-specific kills, making it impossible to unlock new weapon attachments. The only way to do that is to join a ranked server, and even if you manage to get into one, it still might not save your stats. Speaking of ranks and stats, another thing that really aggravates me is the fact that the game punishes you for leaving a server! It's complete garbage, because I remember one round I was actually doing really well, and the lag was minimal was well. Left and right, I was racking up kills with my silenced feline and I gained 2 promotions in a matter of minutes. I was foolish to think that I may actually get enjoyment out of this game, as the server crashed on me right after... For some reason, they thought they'd punish players for leaving a server, all weapons and promotions you earned during that particular game are taken from you. This applies as to whether you purposely leave, or if if something out of your control happens, such as the damn server crashing which happens far too often. Perhaps Crytek should have put more effort into making the online mode playable, rather than focusing on how to unjustly punish the players for unrelated server issues..
Server issues temporarily aside, this game contains many small glitches that are equally as frustrating. One of my personal favorites is how filters don't save your input. Why they neglected to include this is beyond me; after all, if I open up the Original Crysis it still has all my filter settings applied, how did they break something that worked well in the first game? I'm probably not being clear as to why this is so annoying, so let me be a little more precise. You want to level up, in which case you need a ranked server. You apply filters to not show full servers (Why the hell would I want to see fulls servers anyways? Some of these filters don't even make sense), and to display ranked matches only. You try to join a ranked match, it fails to connect to the host. After many more tried, you join a server that suffers from that awful "$60 Chatroom" glitch where the server doesn't start. You become frustrated and leave that server and go back to the server list, you notice all of your filters reset, have fun applying them again and failing to join more servers... if you haven't noticed, you simply can't win.
Now, if you actually manage to get inside a server and play with people, the frustrations will not end. My team is losing, and I feel I should relay some information via the in-game chat option. I cloak and go into a corner as I press the "Y" key and start typing out my message. About half-way through my text, I'm killed by some random guy with a SCAR. Oh well, it happens right? The problem isn't me dying, but rather the mind-castrating fact that the game closes your chat menu when you die. Why would they do that?! On top of that, sometimes the gameplay just pisses me off more than anything. You would expect to be rewarded with a fair, friendly game once you actually manage to find a server that works, but that too is a pipe dream. Out of all the servers that don't crash on me, most of the time the game still wasn't at all enjoyable. Far too many times I will unload at least half a magazine into an enemy player, and they fail to die. Before posting s*** like "lol its cuz u suk", know that I've read through this topic and I know I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, which makes me more at ease. What's even worse is when a I watch the kill cam, either my shots don't seem to register when they hit the target, or I'm missing completely (yet on my screen they were all direct hits, the cross-heir even flashed to represent that). It gets worse, even though I'm ALWAYS in armor mode when I engage an enemy (And I will have 90+ shields when I do), they'll kill me with no more than 3 or 4 body shots... I'm in ARMOR MODE, why am I dying so easily? When other people are in it, I'll have to waste tons of ammo to take them down, but for me it's almost instantaneous. Note that I have a good Internet connection here, and often have very low pings on most servers I join, so I don't know if I just have bad luck, or if the game has latency or hitbox issues. Ugh, sometimes I point blank a guy with the FELINE when he's cloaked, and melee him twice and they still don't die, yet they seem to finish me off with, again, 3 shots or a random headshot. Those spontaneous headshots can really be a pain sometimes.
To conclude this wall of text, the game is broken. Why didn't they just delay the game instead of giving us a defective product? Although I enjoyed the Single Player Campaign, there is no excuse for the multiplayer to be so terrible. As far as I know, there's no ETA as to when these problems are going to be fixed, and to be honest I really don't want to wait for an undisclosed amount of time just to be able to play the damn game I spent $60 on.. I purchased it through Steam, so I'm unaware if I'm able to get a refund, but seeing as how bad things are now, I doubt it. At this point I'm not sure who to blame, whether it be Crytek, EA, or the Gamespy servers; I can't point to where it all went wrong. I'm severely disappointed in this game and the poor decisions made by the developers, and would urge would-be customers not to purchase, or at least not until it's confirmed that most of this crap was fixed. To sum it all up, This is completely unacceptable.
