Crysis 2 for PC Locking, Have not found a similar issue.

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:03 am

I recently purchased Crysis 2 for PC and am having a very frustrating problem. What is happening is that during game play it will run fine for a while then it will lock up for about 3 or 4 seconds then unlock for about 2 seconds then lock up again for another 4 seconds then resume as if nothing happened. This is happening in both multiplayer and single player and will happen over and over. I have tried all different graphics settings and the problem always persists. I don't think it is an overheating problem either because my temp readings never get out of control while playing. I really like the game but it is basically unplayable which is very disappointing. I know my system should have no issue running it on high graphics. The game is also fully patched to the latest 1.4 and my gpu driver is updated to the most recent version as well. I have searched all over the internet and have not found a similar problem anywhere. If I could get some help on this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Intel i7 CPU 930

hmmm i have not encountered such problem before.

however i have a different question compleatly off topic.
why do you have your 2 ssd's in RAID 0? Raid 5 (or is it 55 i never remember lol) is much better - when one drive fails in raid 5/55 then you wont lose all the data - when one hdd fails in raid 0 you lose all data.

I have them set up that way because I want to get maximum storage out of them. 4 in a raid 0 gives me 128 gb. In another config i would have reduced storage. But I do have my stuff back up on an external in case haha.

But I really hope I can get this issue solved.

Do you have any other software running that might modify the gameplay? Things such as D3Doverrider come to mind, anything like that? It is odd, your specs should run this game very nicely.

I finally figured out the problem (I think). Turns out my graphics card was one of the factory over-clocked ones. I turned it own a bit and it is working great now. Kinda strange though seeing as it hasn't conflicted with any other games.

by the way, I am fairly new to gaming pc's and custom pc's so its been a learning experience.

Different problem than me than, because my game freezes every few minutes for about 20 seconds regardless of the graphics settings or resolution.

It's clearly not stress related to the GPU in my case, because temps stay relatively low and framerate is relatively high. Something is interrupting the game every few minutes causing this freeze.

Guys, check your HDD's because they might invoke this problem.

Edit: also try to trace does the windows 7 search indexer service is working while youre playing.

If it's related to your gpu, you might need to increase voltages.

PS: putting ssd's in raid turn trim off. And in few weeks you get results getting the same compared to one ssd.
Unless you make a back up and a secure erase.

In some cases newest drivers can cause issues with performance or even other problem. First thing which you should do is to test all drivers starting from newest back to even 5-6 month old, i know this is pain in ass but this is only way to eliminate GPU software as an source of problem.
Next thing is to install MSI Afterburner and declock GPU and Memory and see if there will be any improvement, for example go down for 5 mhz on GPU and Memory and test game, then go 5 mhz more and test game, up to let's say 50 mhz on GPU and 50 on Mem. If there will be no improvement then this is not a timing problem. Don't try mess with voltage if you don't know what is max. voltage for you card.

Nope, just disabled that and tried, still froze on me within 2 minutes of playing.

Is your case well ventilated ?

Crysis makes card run hot. Check your temperatures just for precaution.

Edit: just read you already checked it. Sorry

Yea, it's not freezing because of unstable temps or stress on the system.

Something's interrupting the game, not at regular intervals, but every couple mins.

WarDice's advice four posts up is good. My problem with Crysis 2 was in CPU overclock. I had stalls and locks with C2 on my very stable system and only downclocking fixed it. BTW, I've found that OCCT (http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download) using "Large Data Set" is very good for finding/anticipating this type of overclock problem. I hadn't run it on this system because everything else worked fine. Using OCCT to dial in the overclock is easier on my mood than crashing Crysis 2 over and over...
