Crysis 2 PC graphics at launch

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 7:43 am

Hy everyone!
I suppose there is a thread about this already, but i would like to have this separate, to get a better chance of getting an answer (from crytek staff).
Please look at the following trailers for crysis 2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDyHnuQZYRs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4mOGhWSXYQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Kvl31g77Z8

Please, take a special look at the "PC" and "Next Gen Ready" footage. I guess by now everyone and their grandmas know about the leak and from "what i've seen on youtube", there is quite a huge difference between this beta leak and what can be seen in those trailers. The 3rd trailer especially, looks phenomenal. Now i ask you, crytek staff, why is it that the leak looks so much weaker?
If you don't mind me taking a guess, could it be because of not wanting to make it look too good compared to consoles? Or maybe because it is just a dx9 beta? And the live game will actually look like that! Or maybe (this is the 99% probable) is it because of M$'s business strategies?

TL;DR: Will crysis 2 game have the advertised graphics in the trailers above? "PC" and "Next Gen Ready" footage!

p.s. i will happily buy even 5 copies of the game if indeed it has those graphics. But if it will be a watered down console like version, well, let's just say i will be very very sad!

dx9, medium textures, quite a few effects missing, compressed youtube videos. The list is fairly endless why the beta looks worse.

I know "from a friend" that you can edit your config file to enable the game to play at maximum quality on dx9. And it looks ok, don't understand me wrong. BUT! It looks NOWHERE near as good as in those trailers.

Files missing? Like textures for example? So ur saying all game's higher resolution textures are missing? Then the ones that are in now are placeholder textures or what? You know, dx11 or dx10000 has no influence over textures, they are as they are. Or do u mean there is a *secret* file missing that enables those high resolution textures? I don't understand why the PC has to use the same textures as the consoles ...

Anyway, i'd like ,IF it's possible, a response from someone from the staff. I'm really curious at what they have to say. (for the other normal members, i will settle with the answer "beta leak" and agree on waiting for the official game before we can continue the discussion; so you don't have to bother and respond, flame me or anything)

Very high setting is completely missing from the config files. It only goes up to High.
And High looks damned epic.

In fact there arent really any grfx settings yet. There will an advanced config window like in Crysis 1/warhead where you can adjust everything yourself. From what ive heard the beta is only 9 gigs or something like that... thats not very much.... Crysis for example was about 12 gigs big.
From what ive seen and heard and read about the leak... Thats the version that was (and still is?) used to record and create multimedia for the xbox360 footage (like the trailer and the screenshots). I can remember my texture anolysis at gamescom and these are the console version textures for sure.

The leak graphics are appantly locked at medium to high settings on DX9. Not very high or DX10 or DX11. Medium to high on DX9, and yes, it looks that good on those settings. And yes, it DOES look better than the consoles. I don't have the leak, but looking off youtube and using the wonderful google to look up what the max graphics are of the leak, yeah, they aren't even remotely maxed out.

The final version for PC will have DX11 on very high settings, and yeah, what you saw in the trailers are basically what's going to be on the PC version of Crysis 2, or so I'm pretty sure of. You may now fap.

nah, it's impossible to do that. After my research, the unfinished build doesn't even have textures, effects, and etc. made and put into it to even allow highest settings for DX9. In other words, no matter what you can do on the config file, you can't increase graphics because high and very high settings don't exist the early build. Actually, those medium settings can be considered maxed out for the unfinished build.

Just use google man, it will answer all your questions lol.

@ SilentPhenomed

Do you mean that very high settings will be only available in Dx11 mode?... Or did i get something wrong?

All ive heard is that some features will be "added " in Dx11... but very high (textures etc.) should also run on Dx10 and 9.

^ Everything should be the same between DX9/10/11, except for effects which require specific DX# levels. For example:
DX10 is required for object motion blur. I.e. DX9 wont have this.
DX11 is required for object tessellation. I.e. DX9 and 10 wont have this.

There are probably others, but those two are things we know from other games and past Crysis games.
