[PC] Crysis 2 - How to enable 3D?

Post » Fri Jun 18, 2010 7:00 am

Hello all,

The following is the setup I'm using to play Crysis 2 in 3D:

TV: LG 60PX950
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 6870

Both of which are very 3D ready. However, when I go into the game's options, the "3D Options" menu selection is greyed out and I can't get the game itself to work in 3D.

As for connections, I have an HDMI 1.4 Cable running from the HDMI slot on the GPU directly to my television to no avail. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Zurom

I have no problems on my Nvidia 560's so I'm not sure. Did you try enabling 3D in your GPU's control panel? Assuming you have one with that option and everything. Other than that I don't know, I don't even have NVIDIA 3DTV play and it works for me.

edit:: Try this as well, make sure you have the resolution on your card set for 24hz and 720/1080p that might help. I don't think 3D works with anything other than 24hz.

Go inside Catalyst Control Center. (Your AMD/ATI control panel)

Under Graphics, choose Desktops and Displays

Right click on the little screen (down on the left) and click on configure

Under HDTV Support, scroll down to "Add 1080p24 format to the Display Manager (HD)

At last, you go back and hit the Graphics button, go to Desktop Properties and select 1920x1080, 32 bit and 24hz.

To my knowledge for ATI cards to use 3d they have to use a 3rd pt software package to enable 3D, even though the cards can run 3d they dont run 3d out of the box like some NVIDIA setups do. The big bonus with ATI is you can use a larger variety of 3D setups (basically the different types of glasses/software used to produce 3d). This might help some... http://3dvision-blog.com/tag/ati/

For ATI, I believe you need either the 3rd party drivers made by Tridef or iZ3d.

You can see more info here:
http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-hd3d/Pages/supported-hardware.aspx

I'm running Nvidia, so I'm not too sure about ATI, but we've been discussing it in another thread, and one of the ATI users got it working:

You can try out those drivers for free and then buy a license. Pretty cheap.

Yeah though before buying any one type of software make sure you have the glasses. One of the companies I believe uses Real3d or something like that glasses that are the same as the ones you can get from the movie theatres for like 3 bucks. Even buying the glasses and software in most cases the ATI solution is cheaper than the Nvidia one, NVIDIA is usually just easier to setup since its all in a box type of setup.

Actually, on the glasses thing, I think you might be talking about iZ3D's now out-of-production monitor that used polarized glasses instead of active LCD shutter glasses. They discontinued that product line and now only make drivers.

I agree the Nvidia solution is more turn-key, but if you already have a supported 3DTV and an ATI card, then you should be good-to-go using the glasses that came with your TV. ATI falls behind on 120hz 3D monitor support as the vast majority of 3D computer monitors work with Nvidia and not, I believe, ATI cards.

That being said, if you already have an 3DTV and an Nvidia card, you can just purchase the 3DTV Play drivers from Nvidia *without* having to get a 3D PC Monitor and new glasses. Only downside is that max rez supported for gaming on a 3DTV is 1280x720 vs 1920x1080 on a monitor.

Thanks again for all your replies.

However, after much tweaking and experimentation, I think I have to conclude that the remainder of my system is just not up-to-par.

In light of this, I'm going to wait to play Crysis 2 until I have my CPU, MOBO and RAM upgraded. Also, maybe by then, this game will be working correctly and there will be a wider amount of support from ATI for 3D gaming.

No prob.

I hope ATI does get behind 3D gaming. It can only be good for all of us who enjoy it if BOTH GPU companies embrace it.
