Crysis 2 AI....killing themselves???

Post » Wed Oct 14, 2009 1:15 pm

Ok, i've played ALOT of First Person shooters in my time and Crysis 2 has the worst AI i've scene. I can't see the makers of this game coming out with it after seeing how horrible their AI is. Must of been rushed.

- I've had enemies kill themselves and others around them with their grenades.
- After you are detected in an area the enemy quickly forgets about you after you cloak or hide. Not too mention you kill 2 of their guys right in their faces and after you hide, they go about business like nothing happened and your long gone or something.
- I've had enemies trying to shoot me through indestructible barriers like it wasn't there.
- I've broken the neck of guys standing 10 feet from their partners and they don't even notice.
- I've had alien soldiers in the middle of battle just stop and stair at me.
- I've had alien soldiers run around like monkeys in the jungle and not attack me for minutes like i wasn't even there. (flip, i had one time where they successfully detected me cloaked and just stood there looking at me and then ran away and started the whole monkey thing again. I sighed some relief because i thought i was dead.)

There's much more, but its so bad that i've discovered a different element that i don't think Crytek has realized. They have made their enemies comical and if you look at it that way, its a pretty FUN TIME. LOL!!!!

Hope you fix this problem soon Crytek. You can't come out with a game with these types of issues.

I love your games and besides the AI problems, this game is AMAZING!!!! Thanks.

I've had the same AI bugs myself. It's funny when a C.E.L.L. operatives runs into a wall and dies.

On a related note regarding AI, I noticed that a lot of the time, many facial animations simply don't play in the final release, i.e. a marine going
"Hey suit guy! Over here! I don't know who... Or what the **** you are."
The audio file for that line plays, the subtitle plays, but the guy's face doesn't play. As an artist, I am VERY nitpicky about this kind of stuff. No, it doesn't hamper me from enjoying the game overall but I just thought CryTek needed to know at least that this bug exists.

I'm playing on Post-Human and the AI is just as you say. I've had groups of enemies just stand there and stare at me until I finally got 2ft close, many times they dont react, everything you said about invisiblity and them forgetting you're around sounds right

This is just terrible AI; love the game but damnit it can get BAD

The AI in this game is amongst the worst I have ever seen. It's beyond ridiculous.

AI works pretty good on my side. And if it works, it's the best AI I've ever seen. Their grenades are nearly as good as my own, if I cloak and run away they don't stop chasing me and search for me, coming from multiple sides. If I kill someone over a hundred meters away and some Cell-soldier saw it he alarms his comrades and they all come for me or take cover whilst shooting at me. Makes stealth really difficult. Only thing here, is that helicopters shoot through big barriers sometimes (but the hit isn't counted, just the animation is shown). I love the AI!

I noticed that in Gould's lab, a lot of explosions seemed to go off killing the guys who'd dropped down, while I was hiding near the lift. Maybe it was thier own grenades or the chopper firing in missiles? I also noticed that the guys I killed, who'd just come up in the lift, stayed in mid air, even when the lift had gone back down.

Ealier in the game, I did noticed some enemies shooting at walls and some were just stood there doing nothing 4 feet away from me when I didn't know they were there, before I turned round and killed them.

On the other hand, another thing I've noticed is that I seem to be like a magnet for enemy fire, the instant I'm uncloaked. Not really complaining about the difficulty, but it just seems cheap. I'm instantly in a hail of bullets all the time.

I think thats the point of cloak, not to be seen. But so many times *I am playing on the hardest difficulty* that I got cloak and there like WHERE THE **** DID HE GO? Then they run to my last position and normally find me and fill me with bullets. But the AI does have some pathfinding issues.

Yes, but it's like they were already aiming at you before you uncloaked. Just waiting for you to to uncloak before they pulled the trigger.

I suppose I just really miss the speed boost, how it was in Crysis, where I could run properly. This new speed feature is useless.

The AI is really dumb and thus far is somewhat ruining the SP experience. Too bad Crytek doesn't give a damn now that they have our money.

Same for me.

I'm only playing veteran for now so i can mess around a bit but the AIs aren't as bad as the others say. The only stupid parts are that they know exactly whr u are and their grenade throws are stupid. In the beginning wen u first get armor mode I went down and the guy behind the bin threw the grenade right at his own cover...

I also miss speed mode... MP it confused the fk out of me cuz I kept running out of energy... at least it was during the demo... now I cant even get into MP

This game is an extreme letdown... I doubt I'll buy their games anymore...

My AI isn't that bad. At least, my aliens don't have any problem at all.
