Crysis Kinect on XBOX 360

Post » Fri Aug 15, 2008 8:27 am

Just been looking at the new Microsoft XBOX 360's Kinect and I was wondering, will Crysis 2 have any of it's controller-freeness implemented?

As a FPS, I can imagine it would be quite hard to get things like change gun fire mode (burst, single shot, etc) working, but moving (with a gun prop a la wii) and actions such as switch weapon and melee would be quite fun and intuitive.

Any word on this from the good people at Crytek? Maybe at Microsoft about external controllers that work with Kinect?

Oh so natal is called Kinect? Doesn't sound very appealing. Anyway I think it would just add to the experience with the controller instead of replace it. You will be able to do certain things in the game with the motion capture the only thing I can think of atm is boxing that would be fun!

These kind of systems only really work for Rail Shooters.

If you want a system like this in a FPS to be successful, you would need those motion sensor things all over your body, and I doubt you want to spend $1,000 on equipment.

well it would be bad ass and im sure if they do it would look somthing like the movie GAMER to switch a weapon i would think it would just be to move you arms to ur one side and move back up and a prop would be better so u have a reference to how you would hold the gun lol but so far it just looks like a version of the EYE TOY from PS2 but some things look a hole lot better and the name KINECT should be change most ppl im hearing form like the PROJECT NATAL better or just NATAL lol

From what I have seen of kinect so far, I do not see the need for many motion sensor dots; the camera system seems to be working very well.

But you never know :)

I'm rather apathetic towards the Kinect since I've never been that interested in that tech. I would much rather stick with my controller / mouse+keyboard in most games.
If I feel like running around and swinging my arms wildly I'll go attempt to give the cat a bath or, even better, just go to the gym as usual.

Kinect just doesn't fit with hardcoe games. It is doomed to shovelware, party games, and sports for the rest of Eternia (a cookie for anyone who can identify my obscure nerd reference, lol). There are no buttons or traditional controls mixed in with the motion, so Kinect will be limited to mindless flailing of appendages, similar to the wii at launch. PS Move, however, would have much more potential for Crysis. Crytek could actually use the combination of buttons, anolog sticks, and motion control for a truly immersive experience, rather than gimmicks with Kinect like reloading, etc. Players could use the pointer to aim with the Move, and the anolog stick to move, similar to some wii FPS games (SOCOM 4 is already being developed in this manner right now. You can use the playstation move or the regular controller).

Despite Move's possible viability for Crysis 2, I just don't think all in all that Crytek will jump on the motion bandwagon. The game is supposed to be multi-platform, so Crytek will probably want to make it as equal as possible (except obviously in the graphics department). They would have to implement three different control schemes for each platform which doesn't seem realistic.

Also, Crytek will want to focus on making the game look really good on the consoles. Motion controls eat up a lot of system resources, so that is another thing to consider. Are you willing to trade significant graphical punch for a couple motion gimmicks?? I didn't think so.
