It appears to me there's a conflict between my hardware, my drivers, DX11, and Crysis 2's main menu. But, I'm not sure what it is. Here are my observations:
Loading Crysis 2 for the first time in a couple of months tonight, it brought up only a black screen, the green mouse icon, and full audio instead of the loading movie and main menu. The menu was there, because I heard the sounds as I moved from one button to another using my keyboard.
I rebooted my system. No change.
Last year, I had a similar problem, and I fixed it that time by changing my game.cfg file to include "r_Height = 1080" and "r_Width = 1920". The file already had that tonight. I changed the ratio to lower numbers to see if that helped, and that didn't. I just got larger mouse icons.
Next, I managed to load up a single-player game. After a black loading screen, the engine loaded just fine with full environment, lighting, models, textures, and sound. I could have played from there without trouble had I wanted to.
So, in game.cfg, I changed my "r_Driver = "DX11"" line to read "r_Driver = "DX9"". Then, the start-up movie and main menu loaded properly. So, I went into settings, changed the DirectX version back to 11 again, restarted the game, and back to black screened main menu.
Lastly, I tried turning down my Video Card overclocks from 800 MHz Core speed to 650 MHz and 1950 MHz Memory clock to 1300 MHz, because I know before EVGA made it possible to change the voltages on their 570s, Crysis 2 had problems with overclocked settings. No change.
When I played this back in May or June, everything ran perfectly. I have updated my Nvidia drivers since then to the 301.42 - WHQL version.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me to play with DX11 settings again other than regressing my video drivers? Thanks!
