Those system specs should run Crysis 2 at great settigns in my opinion.

The cost of the Radeon 6970 is unknown, but I would expect it to be in direct competition with the GTX480 from Nvidia, which will place it around $400 - $500.

I think that a Radeon 5870 or 5970 would work just fine for Crysis 2 also.

Get yourself a 6850 or a 6870. Both can max Crysis out and still keep respectable framerates. Crysis 2 is supposed to be much easier on the system than it's predecessor. With a 6870 I ran Crysis @ 1680x1050, Very High and 4xAA with an average of 47FPS. Plus, it's a giveaway at only 250$, the 6850 is 180$. Check out some benchmarks and buy the one you think it should need. A 6970 is a bit overkill don't you think?

Yup, Ati at least has some power for Crysis 1.

What about with an over clocked 1gb 5 series?
