It amazes me that any FPS dev wouldn't have this in for EVERY FPS. Look at it from a marketing standpoint...
If you have a great game, no matter how good it is, my buddies and I are only going to buy one copy if it doesn't have coop. Why would we all buy a game that we can't play together? Instead, I'd buy one copy, finish it, and we'd pass it around. Saves us money. On the other hand, if you put in some coop--for those of us that don't like competitive multiplayer, you're going to sell more copies--a lot more. Gears, Halo--those guys get it and are pushing some serious copies off the shelves because of it. The fact that this hasn't become an industry standard is shocking and tells me they need to hire some different staff.
