Crysis 2 Multi GPU support causes insane flickering.

I don't think those drivers are the answer. It appears they were there to fix the 500 series with multiple monitors. Are you looking at how much of each card is being used. I don't get the flickering but I loose about 10FPS and it isn't as smooth when I turn in the game. I have the most current beta drivers and they do not fix SLI. With 1 of 2 GTX470OC, I get about 35-50 FPS on Extreme so not bad. You would think Nvidia would of had a head start on this one. I hope it doesn't turn into NFS:Hot Pursuit (no working SLI).

Interesting. I know that if you do not update your SLI Profile to version 7 only one card will work. Both of my cards are just about almost equally being used, SLI bar graphs are showing balanced usage, and temps are almost the same, perhaps off by 3-5 degrees. Also I had to "Add" the game's .exe file to the Nvidia Control panel's 3D Settings.

How many FPS are you getting? At what resolution?

60 frames capped because the system selected Vsync after I selected no. Wierd. So through out the whole SP game it would just stay at 60 frames on Extreme @ 1650 rez. I will try toggling that setting again to see what in reality my max frames are.

I have a GTX260 SC SLI config and i got something to work...

1) Update the drivers to 266.58
2) Install the EVGA SLI Enhancement at: http://www.evga.com/articles/00463/
3) Open the Nvidia Control Panel, go to 3d Settings -> Manage 3D Settings -> Set the SLI rendering mode to "Force alternate frame rendering 2"
4) Restart you computer
5) Try it!

This worked for me, it's using 90% of each card.

5850 x2

Same massive flickering issues. I've noticed V-Sync changes the rate of the flicker though, but that's not really surprising. It's good to see other Beta testers are reporting this as well. Hopefully this issue will be corrected before the game goes live.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not trying to be negative, I just want to help figure it out. I tried adding that .exe to my CP Profile. It did not work (I only tried AR2 though). You had mentioned updating your SLI profile to version 7. I thought I only had to update my drivers. Is there a seperate section for SLI profiles?
I am glad to here you are getting those results. I am trying to avoid using the EVGA software route (I do like EVGA, I just worry about those types of programs). I was seeing 91% on GPU1 and 2-3% on GPU2. I also noticed some of the effects, like rain in the beginning, were gone if I used SLI (maybe that was on card 2?).
As much as I love tweaking these games, it can be such a pain sometimes.
I'll just play Rift until Nvidia gets it sorted out.

I have a single 2gb 6970 but all that is happening is after playing the game fine for 4 minutes or so it drops from 60 fps to 4 and stays that way in single player leaving the game unplayable completely. Is there anything I can do? All my other games are running fine on steam and I just want to play the single player it was really fun for the first few moments.. I'm guessing this is either a driver issue? or Crysis 2 game issue? o.o?

I've chimed into the other thread on this issue, but I'll put it here, too.

STEAM release of Crysis 2.

ATI 5970 x 2 Quadfire - Flicker all over the place.

The Steam release cannot use the 'exe rename' trick, since Steam looks for the specific Crysis2.exe for launch, and if not there, will not load, or if you copy it to a 2nd EXE and rename / run that copy, Steam still launches the Crysis2.exe file.

Running Windowed Mode removes the flicker, since only one GPU is used in Windowed mode.

If ATI were to release a new Crossfire profile for Crysis 2, this would be somewhat resolved, since the file-rename trick is doing just that - making Crysis2 run with the rift.exe crossfire profile.

But since this issue is happening to SLI people, too, the game has to be at the core of the problem, not just a SLI or Crossfire profile.

The SLI profile Update Version 7 is only to be used with the latest Beta drivers v267.24 or v267.31

*Download and save to your Desktop the Nvidia Geforce Beta Drive v267.31
*Download and install DriveSweeper v2.9.0 http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/
*Uninstall the Display/Graphics Drive (DO NOT Restart when prompt)
*Right click on DriverSweeper and select "Run As Adimistrator" and select Nvidia Display > anolyse > Clean > Reboot (when prompt)
*After reboot (wait a while for the new hardware wizard to stop) right click on the the Nvidia c267.31 install file and select "Run as Adimistrator", then restart
*Enable SLI
*Download and Install the SLI Profile Update Version 7 http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia-multigpu-SLI-profile-update-v7-driver.html (You will have to right click on it and Run As Adminstrator)
*Go to NVCP Manage 3D Settings and apply the following as your global settings:

Multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration: "Single Display Performance Mode"
Power Management Mode: 'Prefer Maximum Performance'
SLI performance mode: "Nvidia recommended "
Threaded Optimization: "On"

*Then Save.

*Add the Crysis2.exe to the Program Settings.
*Restart (You dont have to but its a good practice)

Your good to go

ATI USERS:

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/crossfirex-app-profiles.aspx

There is a profile created 3/18 claiming an improvement in Crysis 2 crossfire applications. I installed it last night, but I am still waiting on my PC copy of Crysis 2 to show up so I can test it. Anyone tried this app profile out yet????

I have 3 nvidia gtx 285's and when I use all 3 with the evga sli enhancement patch, it works fine. On Extreme 1920x1200 I shoot up to 180fps and sometimes down to 40 while outside in the action packed city.
Monitoring my gpu temps and usage, it shows only 2 cards are being used out of the three.
If i go to the nvidia control panel and dedicate one card to physx and 2 to SLi, I get the same flickering Issue. 266.58 drivers.

Looks like having 3 way SLi is the only fix for now.

Yes. It doesn't fix the flicker issue.

-------

Current workarounds for ATI users:

1. Disable Crossfire (check the "Disable Catalyst A.I." in the CCC)

2. Manually create a new profile for Crysis2 using RadeonPro.

3. If not using the Steam version, rename "Crysis2.exe" to match one of the existing Crossfire profiles (e.g. "Rift.exe", "Bioshock.exe").

I had insane flickering with or without 5970 crossfire enabled. The problem was solved by not downloading the update. From what I understand, you will need the update to play multiplayer. Hopefully, Crytek and EA will have a patch to fix this very soon.

FINALLY FIXED THIS FOR ME...

Corsair 1200 PSU
Asus Rampage 3 Extreme
Sli GTX580
i7 920 @ 3,6
12GB @ 1600 Corsair
3x Dell 23" nvidia surround.
Win 7 x64

I tried all the nvidia Beta drivers even the leaked 270 ones. Massive flickering. No matter if using EVGA Sli Profiles or nvidias profile fixes. and manually setting the AFR2 etc, etc... disable fullscreen etc, etc everybody suggested here and in the Steam forums.

I have now rolled back to 263.09 and the flicker was gone, but no good Sli. one gpu took the most work and the other only at 14%.
Added the EVGA Sli Enhancement profiles and now both gpu's working and NO flicker (and NO headache and bleeding eyes :)
Finally ready to start the campaign in 6000*1080 Surround! Have about 50 FPS and seems smooth so far (couple of minutes in to the campaign)

Now only have to wait for proper new drivers etc and maybe patch for Crysis!
Could probably try to tweak some but im happy for now and eager to start the single player campaign!

Uploaded a video using my phone's camera showing the issue, since recording it in Fraps didn't display the issue.
This needs to be fixed. I don't even want to touch this game until it is, it's so unbearable!

How do you not download the update?
You can't launch the game without the update.

yes, I tried the 11.2 CAP4 profile and it reduced fps for me. I unistalled it and now i am getting between 75-100 fps on the very highest settings.. I am using two 5970's in crossfire x. I sent AMD driver feedback. Anyways, I would try both with it and without to see what it does for you.

Okay, looking at that ATI guy's video, my flickering is definitely not as bad as that. Where his is flickering all the bloom and light, mine only seems to have shadowed areas flickering. Like boxes and walls that are shaded will flicker to full-bright and back off again. Not quite the same as the flicker in your video.

My flickering is different from the video posted. Its just blacks out portions of the screen for a second or two. If i look left the flickering changes and If i look up or down the flickering changes again. It flickers like the youtube video posted, but its black.

I'm posting a quick video of the flickering on my Nvidia set up. I've tried all the lastest drivers and SLI patches in various combos. It always looks like this in game. (dont mind the FPS, zdnet video cap program killed my FPS a bit) You can see the flicker I'm talking about though even with the bad FPS.

Ok, I have also seen the flickering.. I am running 2 HD 6970 crossfired, with 3 28" monitors in eyefinity. I have found a fix. If you start the game in crossfire mode, hit ALT and enter.. this puts you in windowed mode, also puts you on one card. After that, just hit ALT and enter again to return to full screen and back to crossfire.. flickering gone!! works for me every time. Only have to do this the first time starting game, then goes away after switching back.

Hope this helps

"Windowed mode" works because it disables CrossFireX, so you are effectively using only one of your video cards.
