Crysis 2 Multi GPU support causes insane flickering.

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 3:49 am

This has probably been posted a few times before but.

I HAVE A 6990 AND I CAN ONLY USE BOTH GPUS! I can't disable a GPU, so this game has no choice but to support multi gpus for those who have 6990/590.

Still no fix from Crytek...amazing. Portal 2 had 2 patches out in 4 days adressing rare glitches for its players, and here we are now, still without a patch to fix this gamebreaking flaw...

I had a talk with a friend of mine working at a local game-outlet. I asked him where the Crysis 2 copies were and he told me they didnt shelf it because of all the complaints. They kept the copies behind the counter and explained all the problems with the game to every customer before they sold it.

This game is going to be the FOTY of 2011 (FOTY=FAIL Of The Year)

I have gtx480's in SLI and I noticed something that may help. Only changing fov in autoexec and using evga sli enhancement. In normal mode I get the nanovision color flicker (gun/enemy). When I turned on 3D mode with shutter glasses, the nanovision flicker goes away. It looks really cool without the bright flickering. Maybe the 3D sli control settings could work if meshed in with normal mode some how?

... Actually as writing this I'm thinking now that flicker is impossible when in 3D because the glasses flicker 1 frame per eye at a time.

Thoughts?

Sorry to say this but you guys may be 'special cases' Many ppl have the new CCC 11.4 with the latest CAP & no longer have problems.

I had to twek the CCC settings for the best performance but the flickering has been gone since the 2nd CAP or 3rd.

Hope u guys figure it out!

Perhaps so? Is that the card with two GPUs built-in which I saw a posting and someone said only 1 of theGPUs were working?

I have 2xHSI 6950s set on Eyefinity (3 monitor) Crossfire.

I finally got it to work perfectly with the help of a NBR member, here's how...

1. Backed up Crysis 2 saved game folder
2. Uninstalled Crysis 2
3. Uninstalled 11.4CCC & 11.4 Cap 1
4. Run Driver Sweeper
5. Run CCleaner
6. Install 11.4CCC & 11.4 Cap 1
7. Install Crysis 2(DO NOT UPDATE)
8. Download Crysis 2 1.4 patch & install http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Crysis-2-Patch.shtml
9. Paste previous Crysis 2 saved game folder over newly created save folder save

All flickering including HUD flickering should be resolved.
Crysis 2 1.5 patches brings back flickering issues. At this point, the 1.4 patch does not force you to update to 1.5.

At this point(after a month) I honestly believe Crytek doesn't care about the enthusiast PC consumer and have no intentions of trying to rectify the situation with a proper fix. What's really sad is that it would have been easier for me to download the PS3/360/PC versions for free before the release date but instead I decided to give this lousy company my hard earned money in an up & down economy because of their past achievements.

No more!! I will never support Crytek again out of my pocket!! Out of 8 other friends I am the only one who actually paid for this game and this is how I'm treated? WTF?
This thread has 114+ pages at the time of writing. How can you(Crytek) continue to sleep at night knowing your "MOST IMPORTANT" fans can't even enjoy your game and spend more time troubleshooting it than playing it!!

I will monitor this thread but will no longer comment on trying to do your job and fix what you started!!
Enjoy my 60.00USD. It's the last your gonna get from me.

For the record I still like EA and look forward to Battlefield 3.

Face it brothers, we've been had. At least the game is playable in windowed mode and that equals out to being @$$raqed WITH lubricant.

Fixed my SLI flicker by plugging my monitor into my second GPU and using alternate frame rendering 2 in nVidia control panel. Game is flicker free without v-sync also!

Went away for a week or two hopping this issue has been resolved, but I guess not. I'm running 2 5970s in quad gpu crossfire. I have CCC 11.4 and 11.4 cap 1. I'm running version 1.4 of the game. The only time I haven't had flickering is when I used version 1.0 of the game or if I use one of my four gpus in windowed mode. I don't want to bother with renaming files to different games. It kind of kills it for me when I have to do it for a game. Any word on a future fix and don't know if anyone has the quad setup on here, but its acting up worse than the others it seems.

Lol , not that it matters much at this point, I'm ready to just write this game off as a charitable donation to Crytek and uninstall it.

I think 295 current steam players might disagree, but oh well :P

Gosh, I'm a special case now! Many ppl may very well have the new CCC 11.4 with latest cap and no problems, but many people still have the problem, too. But it's ok, we're special cases. Nevermind my rig and card run about 100+ other games, both old and brandnew, perfectly fine.

No, I think Crysis 2 is a special case. A fix at this point seems unlikely..this thread seems to be dying out slowly (only 2 pages per a week now) so my guess is Crytek is just waiting for us to go away :p

Nevertheless.

Is this problem still being looked at by Crytek?

It's my understanding that Crysis 2 isn't multi-GPU friendly and both AMD and Nvidia are having to work around the flickering issue.

I'm still getting flickering while in nano-vision mode.

Can Crytek please update this thread.

Since CryEngine 3 is the best thing (according to them) since humanoids rose up and walked on two legs, fixing this would be done in five minutes. So no, they're not looking at this. They're just concerned with getting into the console market.

I just checked the "Crysis 2 Update" thread and found this:

6/5 -Today we took the action of permanently banning accounts of offenders for cheating....blah blah blah and so on...and then: Maintaining a great experience for our players will always be our top priority.
Maybe he just forgot to say: "unless you're the owner of a multi-GPU card."

Wow, the level of entitlement and ignorance floating around in this thread amuses me. There's so many people posting in this thread that are using multi-GPU systems, and they don't even know how to identify a driver issue, or what group is in need of providing a fix.

Anyway, the flickering issue was already addressed by Crytek. For AMD users, a link was posted from a Crytek rep pointing to a CAP hotfix that resolves the flickering issues for AMD users. Haven't heard anything for Nvidia users, so I guess they're SOL and stuck with using third party fixes until Nvidia gets off their butt and releases proper drivers for the game.

  • - Crysis 2 Multi GPU support causes insane flickering.
  • - Possible Crossfire Flicker Fix
AMD has released a CF fix for Steam versions: link
AMD has released another CAP fix: New CAP fixes CrossfireX performance and flickering

Thank you very much for your patience and your assistance in helping find and fix issues! More to come! If you know of any answers/information that's not listed here, please PM me and i'll add it in.

Regards,
