Crysis 2 Multi GPU support causes insane flickering.

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 9:19 am

I bought another card just in time for this game to come out...massive disappointment...

Apparently some Germans think a patch is coming tomorrow...

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/crysis_2_directx_11_support_and_%E2%80%9Cadvanced_graphics_settings%E2%80%9D_being_patched_tomorrow

Lets hope our problem is solved too.

the only fix that stopped the flickering for my 5970 was changing the exe's name to bioshock

Few things to try... rename exe to bioshock.exe, adjusting the brightness each time you start up and using D3DOverider for Vsync instead of the games vysnc.

Also having this issue with dual 4890s. Have 2 6970s enroute now. Anyways, this flickering is nuts. Tried turning off V-sync and you just get 2 inch bands of a different brightness traveling down the screen. Seems pretty much as if the timing between the two cards is just way off. And it's not actual light per say, but the light sources where the flickering is most rampant. Almost as though it might be an issue with the blooming effect not translating properly.

If you know someone who you may think they are epileptic, go into the nano suit showroom and click on the power tab and then click an ability. That red flickering is sure to put em twitching.

i dont have this issue with my sli setup, probably due to the drivers not being upto date and having the global settings set to performance and not quality. Your flickering is probably caused by bloom, its known to cause intense flickering in other games, its only the xbox that uses bloom a lot.

Having the same problem with my two 4890 on CFX.
Made my heart (and my eyes) bleed with that flicker >.<
At least, i can play MP-maps which are during night or rain ′q`.
Srsly, that's just sad for me.

Hi there, it's me again. Just an update as for my experience on turning on/off windowed mode (as suggested here): playing Crysis2 with CFX in windowed mode actually avoid such a noxious flickering but... Keeping my eyes on FPS and GPUs load (API monitor with RadeonPro) turned out that in full screen mode with flickering I reached 60+ FPS average while just turning in windowed mode dropped FPS at 30-40 average... GPU load seems to be the same despite windowed or fullscreen mode. I could not understand the reason for this and just seems to me another "bad joke" from this game... You found a simple way to play avoiding such eye-bleeding flickering and keeping your loved multi GPU configuration? So I cut your framerate in a half...
Admins here already promptly denied rumors about incoming patch so please, if possible lose your balance and give us news on esteemed timetable for such a patch!

There had better be a fix for this in the upcoming patch. I've already waited long enough to play this forsaken game.

Very helpful comment... Oh, and it's GPU and you can have CF/SLi with two (or more) cards instead of one card with two GPUs...

Crytek Thinks of a patch?!!!!!
One graphic processor is disconnected at a window mode and game goes normally (but in 2 times more slowly).

I am so disappointed.

I bought a new Sapphire 6990 to enjoy what I thought was going to be another graphical masterpiece from Crytek.

Can you imagine how I felt after installing the game to be looking at a flickering epilectic fit inducing disco like that.

Luckily I had another card that has a single GPU, so my shiney new 6990 is sat in its box so that I can play Crysis 2

And then what do I see, a console port, I can't believe my bloody eyes, a console port from Crytek !!!

Lets see here, credit where credit is due:

The storyline has got me hooked, nice one.

The gameplay and character control is excellent, nice one again.

In fact the game would be bloody great:

BUT

The graphics would be pretty bloody good, IF I WAS PLAYING THE GAME ON A DAMN CONSOLE, NOT NICE ONE.

I don't want console graphics, thats why I bought the game for PC.

Cysis 1 was beautiful, but do you know what you have done Crytek ?

You've ruined Crysis 2, it looks just the same as a thousand other shooters, Crysis one still get talked about today for its graphical brilliance, it aint gonna be that way with Crysis 2 and you have no one to blame but yourselves.

Greed and laziness are bloody awful traits Crytek, and you guys have become afflicted with both.

Bump for #%$^& multi GPU justice.

The most enthusiast part of your PC community and we can't play the damned thing. I hope you're making nice interest off my 60$ while I sit here with a useless game and no hint from the devs that it's been fixed.

Yeah I'm getting really pissed off that there still hasn't been a fix.

There needs to be a patch this week.

I mean for **** sakes.

Considering how pissed everyone is I'm not surprised that an admin hasn't shown themselves on this thread.

But what really gets me is this :

I have the same issue cause of my multi gpu card but for some inexplicable reason the Crysis 2 demo worked flawlessly on steam...

whats up with that...

I am having bad flickering issues with xfire 6870's ... i have downloaded Crysis2 configurator from http://rush-zone.com/downloads/gaming/crysis-2.html

Go to the "Adv Graphics" TAB and Disable Bloom/HDR removes the lighting and flickering when run in crossfire (Doesnt look as good though)

Hurry up Crytek and fix this P.O.S up i am embarressed to have purchased this game

god damn CRYTEK ... they did exactly what MW2 did for its fans on PC...ruined the whole game not because its a bad game cause they completely made a console game :
*console dx9 crap graphic (not bad but also not what I expected)
*no severs from users only official servers
*no support after days and no information if there is going to be a patch or not and they're just having fun with our mony
unacceptable
at least some guy from this crappy crytek inform use or post something that we gain hope!
shameful
worst regards from a PC FAN

ive got 2 ati 5870's in crossfire and i was expecting to get the flickering effect like everyone else after reading the forums. I'm getting absolutely no problems with the graphics or running the game :/ and i know crossfire is working in the game because im getting solid 60 fps, there is no way in hell my pc would achieve that with a single 5870.

Yeah the only fixes I've found are involving reducing image quality or disabling SLI or playing in a window with crappy FPS.
None are acceptable.

I'd be happier if someone from Crytek fell in here laughing and told me to go outside and play a nice game of hide and go **** myself. $60 for a version 2 that can't hold a candle to version 1? I have 2 water-cooled GTX 480's why, to run a game that uses 1 GPU to nearly 100% while the other idles, all the while sputtering over a 9-year old API?

Now I hear pirates and hackers can play on any servers the little assholes want? Guys and gals, it may be time for a new hobby because PC gaming HAS gone to ****.

Hi guys,

i′m new in these forums so let me say hello. :)

i had the same issues with the insane flickering using an HD4870x2. In another forum I saw someone stating that renaming the crysis.exe to Bioshock.exe solves the problem. i tried it and it works. I don′t know about Nvidia but for ATI it should solve the problem of flickering when catalyst A.I. is turned on with a crossfire system.
Hope this is useful for someone. ;)

/cheers
