Crysis 2 Multi GPU support causes insane flickering.

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 11:24 am

ok , i tried the beta drivers from nvidia 267.27 and then re ran the latest profile update from nvidia and then the sli enhancements from evga and flickering is gone in fullscreen sli on 2 570gtx's , sli is still alittle off , 1 gpu at 90% and the other at 40% usage , but it is finally playable

hope this help us green team guys

I can confirm this on two MSI N460 Hawks, latest profile isent the best but it works

And to whoever posted before about the leak, at least it had the editor/sandbox

Im keeping this bumped so hopefully Crytek can say whether its AMD/Nvidia's fault or theirs. I doubt they would ever blame themselves though.

I have 3way SLI of GTX 480's and lots of flicker. I tried the latest beta drivers with the SLI enhancement patch but it didn't fix the issue.

Its hit or miss with the enhancement/SLI config. IDK why, but its very frustrating.

Yeah to say the least... can't play the game in this state.. going back to FEAR I guess while I wait.. Just installed that today for a taste of good old games that weren't ports.

I have a Alienware M17x-R2 with 5870M's in Xrossfire. I also have insane flickering during outside areas. It's really annoying and causes the game to be unplayable and migrane inducing!! Please add Xrossfire/SLI support!!

Can someone sticky this thread? I believe a multi-gpu setup is recommended for a gpu intense game like Crysis 2. Some how this was over looked in QC and needs to be rectified yesterday or before the final build was sent to manufacture. This has to be the most important problem plaguing this games release.

Tom since you seem to be actually looking at this thread, its any multi GPU system that seems to get the heavy flicker. I have noticed disabling Catalyst AI on ATI cards seem to fix this issue (others are renaming the exe to get around the profiling) Figure out what Catalyst AI is doing to cause the issue im sure a solution can then be easier sought for the Nvidia ppl.

I get flickering when in nano vision mode but almost no where else. Still very annoying.

3x ATI HD5770 in CrossFireX

Using ATI Catalyst drivers 11.2
Crysis 2' graphical settings set to "Extreme" under "Options"

Crazy flickering both in inside and outside scenes. Had to stop playing outside the first door that leads to the outside world because it's giving me a headache.

This seems to be related to the bloom effect, or lighting in general. Anything that's got a lens flare or other forms of bloom flickers. Anyplace that gets hit by light flickers in the same way.

It might be helpful for the developers to know that the very same kind of flickering can be seen on the startup screens (the "Achieved with CryEngine 3", the EA logo, and NVidia's The Way It's Meant to Be Played" logo). The main menu also flickers in much the same way, albeit it's more muted maybe because there's a blurred background.

EDIT: I should add that I have installed the latest application profiles (CAP4) and the flickering persists.

In case it helps anyone. I've noticed that if I run Crysis 2 it affects my system in a way where any game played ,after crysis 2 loads something onto the system, will become unplayable because of the same flickering you see in Crysis 2 and it does seem to be related to anyone running more than 1 gpu. If you log out of your pc and log back in, you will be able to play your other games. It's only when Crysis 2 is ran that it de-stabilizes a multi-gpu system. I've also noticed that before I go into the game I'll have say 79 processes in task manager. When I exit Crysis 2 I will have 80. Seems like the game leaves it's easter egg in your system after it runs.

I was getting flickering aswell on ATI CrossFire and poor performance when disabling AI/CrossFire until I did what I answered here :

http://www.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=11216&p=157891#p157891

It now work fine in crossfire, without flickering and huge performance increase. It also fixed flickering/crossfire issues of 2 of my frieds aswell.

Try it out.

Same issue, "fixed" it by renaming the .exe as pointed out by others. Performance has dropped, but at least my eyeballs aren't being shredded by a strobe effect.

Win7 x64, 2xRadeon HD5870 in Crossfire. 1920x1200 @ highest available settings, vsync set to enabled.

Here are my specs:
Alienware M17x-R2 :1920x1200 RGB LED | Intel? Core? i7-740QM | Dual 5870M's XrossfireX | C: (2) 500GB 7200RPM WD Scorpio Black in RAID 0|

I also have a desktop with similar specs that also suffer flickering with Xrossfire enabled.
Thank you cry-tom for getting envolved with this thread. Hopefully we can get this resolved in a timely matter. I know some users like myself are holding off on playing this game until it can be played in all it's glory.

Wait for better drivers from nVidia and AMD ^^

or Crytek to patch it, it works either way, depends on the code.

For those of you with ATI cards, checking "Disable Catalyst A.I." in CCC (under Gaming -> 3D Application Settings) and starting the game seems to solve the flicker for me. I assume this is similar to the "rename .exe" trick (which isn't possible with a Steam install, it seems) by preventing whatever optimizations the drivers are doing by recognizing the Crysis 2 executable name. I'm not sure what other optimizations are disabled, but the game is at least playable (still looks quite good to me).

Edit: Ah, seems Shadow_Viper2 already pointed this out.

Crossfire needs Catalyst A.I. enabled. Disabling Catalyst A.I. is essentially the same thing as disabling Crossfire.

Also getting flicker with crossfire only. Here are my specs...

Crossfire 2x Radeon HD 5850 (playing at 2048x1152) 11.2 drivers and 11.2 CAP4 crossfire profiles
AMD Phenom II X4 965
8GB DDR3 1600
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I have a 980x at 4.5ghz, 12 gigs of tri channel ddr, and 2 580 ftw's in sli, and it doesnt flicker at all. but I have the evga sli patch which updates support so that might be why mine doesnt trip balls. Works fantastic at extreme 2560x1600 only 60-80% load on each gpu.

Thanks for the heads-up. Are you running the Steam version? Because I know Steam doesn't like it when you re-name the .exe files.

For all SLI users, download the EVGA SLI pack.
