Crysis 2 Multi GPU support causes insane flickering.

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 10:05 am

March 23 Catalyst 11.4 Previews + 11.3 CAPs + with and without renaming to Fear.exe like CatalystCreator said to do via Twitter, and the result?

without renaming: Still flickering
with renaming to Fear.exe: Large dark blobs all over my screen. WORSE than the flickering!

WTF!!! Someone needs to get fired, for real.

And this from a company that wants to blame piracy for killing their sales. PFFFFTTT. Can you say DRM and shiity fuuckin programmers killing your sales?

For ATI CrossFire dudes. I've had two confirmed successes so far with the guide I made http://www.guide-nexus.info/2011/03/27/crysis-2-fix-crossfire-flickering-steam-and-retail/

Thank goodness I've been preoccupied with final exams, because I would probably be boiling over right now otherwise. It's unconscionable that this issue has been allowed to persist for so long.

I have tried that method . It works. This is how i've been playing the game, but i don't consider this a proper fix.

Hi there again... After 53 pages I'm not sure this could be a "new" fix possibility but I will post it here anyway. I'ts from another forum I came into wandering like a desperate on the web willing to play Crysis2 on both my 5870. I've been attracted by this idea beacause of the fact I've seen with my eyes how Crysis2 worked in CFX without any flickering since the MP demo and then started to bloody-flick after running the full game which has been auto-patched since first execution. I know it could seems the same as replacing the executable with a fresh one from the DVD (which didn't worked for me too) but in this case I suppose this could be good also for Steam downloaded games.
--> Seems the problem may not be with ATI or Nvidia drivers but with the Crysis 2 ver 1.1 auto update. Open Crysis 2 root file, open backup folder copy Crysis2.exe.bak and rename as Crysis2.exe. Open Bin32 folder (if you are using 64bit OS) and Replace Crysis2.exe file with the one you have just renamed from the backup folder. Seems it works perfectly - running at 90fps no flickering!! Hope it helps you all <--

I must admit this did NOT worked for me but hey, give it a try and you could be more lucky than me.
Other ppl on the web assume the fixed the flickering just with AMD 11.3 CAP but ONLY for Steam downloaded games. Uhm........

On the other hand, I can confirm I got my redeemed codes gifts for MP and now also MP serial seems to be fixed following admins tip. Crytek team, I see you can really solve problems if you want to so PLEASE, seriously, hurry up and give us a patch NOW to fix our hardware-enthusiast pain. We all bought your game despite criticism and any other issue and we all are still here, maybe angry and frustrated yes, but still registered to this site and waiting for such a patch.

I have a 5970 and after installing the game and patching to version 1.1 there was also insane flicker. So here's how I fixed the problem:

1. Went into the Crysis folder and into the Backup sub-folder and restored the Crysis.exe version 1.0 into the main folder.

2. Downloaded the latest Catalyst 11.2 and more importantly the latest application profiles (also available for download from ATI's website on the same page).

3. Ran and played the game with absolutely no flicker in full crossfire.

4. Had a great weekend and played the game through twice

5. Finished with the game, popped it away in my box for now.. Looking forward to the next one! :P

So you are confirming the solution I posted up there worked for you? Nice to hear this, maybe in my case the problem could be related to Catalyst 11.4 preview I'm going to try with 11.2 as you did and we'll see! Just a question: if you downloaded Catalyst 11.2 AFTER de-patching the game, which Catalyst version were you running before doing this?

But were you able to play online? if not then its not a fix.

Having thought about it, I already had 11.2 installed, but I did download the CAT4 application profiles thingy before depatching the game.

The exact sequence of events was:

1. Installed the game and patched it to 1.1
2. Ran the game, BOOM loads of flicker
3. Exit the game
4. Download latest application profiles
5. Run the game (1.1) - BOOM loads of flicker
6. Exit the game
7. Depatch the game to 1.0
8. Run the game (1.0) - problem solved

I haven't tried any online play I'm afraid.

But for the single player campaign there was no flicker anywhere to be seen.

I agree . I'm using steam version too. So unless Crytek releases a fixing patch, i'm back to Radeon Pro + Bioshock profile

I was able to get the game working without flickering by updating catalyst to 11.3 and by using the newest profiles(I have steam version). Here's what I did- I uninstalled the drivers and profiles, restarted, ran driver sweeper to remove all ATI stuff, restarted, installed catalyst 11.3, restarted, installed newest profiles, tried the game and it was still flickering, restarted, ran the game and it was no longer flickering.

The problem I'm having now is simply bad performance. I have 2 4870x2s and I have to really turn down the settings to get it running smoothly. I know when it was flickering though I had a constant 60FPS at 19200x1200 and extreme settings. I'm getting 30-40FPS with at 1440x900 with extreme settings. I've also tried lowering the settings to "High" and performance still doesn't seem too great. I also disabled crossfire and saw my FPS drop by about 10. Seems like I should be getting better performance than this? It's not a bottleneck on the processor either as I have an i7 965.

4870x2s: do you have a notebook like Alienware or similar? because if that's the case even if you force the Catalyst, whatever version, downloaded directly from ATI the system will have some issues, one being lower performance in some game. You better stick to the most recent driver found at the vendor's website, use RadeonPro + Bioshock profile and wait for Crytek to deliver a final fix.

Nope, this is a custom built desktop. Not much else I can do other than wait on a better fix I suppose.

nVidia have released beta 270.51 drivers.

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/win7-winvista-64bit-270.51-beta-driver-uk.html

Will see if these help...

Just tried those. Didn't change any thing for me. Still flickering and broken motion blur if I enable SLI.

Though they really helped a few other games run very very well now with 3d vision and 3-way SLI. :)

Yeah, flickering was actually a bit worse, imo lol

Still the new drivers gave me 10fps boost on Shogun 2 \o/

for the record, the March 23 Catalyst 11.4 Preview drivers caused BSOD (atikmpag.sys) when i tried disabling Crossfire after i couldnt get the flickering to stop with the new 11.3 CAP1's even though i bought retail. Just before the BSOD, what i could see on my desktop was all distorted. 11.3 Catalysts transistions smoothly. i will wait for the official 11.4 or 11.5's, and/or a CAP that is not for the Steam version only. more bullshiit. want more bullshiit? AMD gives the 11.3 CAP1's to rage3d before its own damn site! how messed up is that?! ffs AMD, do both Steam and retail CAPs or none at all, and put them on YOUR OWN SITE... FIRST! unless you are outsourcing the work because you are too incompetent. as for @catalystcreator (twitter), for the life of me i dont know how that guy got his job. March 29 he says new CAPS to fix the flickering tomorrow. March 30 comes and he says the CAPs are for Steam versions only and retail users should rename the exe to Fear. WTF?! nothing else after that.

oh and Cry-TOM, i read a post of yours where you say you're not gonna keep saying there is no fix yet, but hey guess what?... its better than nothing!!! this is why i hate forums... you get an answer when they feel like giving you one. i bet if this were a store and you were behind a counter and i came up to you and asked how are the Crysis 2 issues coming, i HIGHLY doubt you would say nothing. hey guess what? on the internet you can type something ONCE for EVERYONE to see, assuming it is accessible for everyone to see... more on that below...

what needs to be done is fix this POS site. update your issues on the main page ffs. give us something. even if its, "Working on it. Expect it soon." Not the same old issues day after day staring me in the face everytime i come here. i read about most of Cry-TOM's posts from other sites, why?, because **** is so hard to find on this site without having to rifle through 55 page forum threads.

Fix it how? Cry-TOM only commented on a couple posts on this thread here. why not put his replies on ONE page along with the post he is replying to. now where can we put them? hmmm. how about page **** ONE of the thread, rather than having to go through pages and pages of threads. and if you got no updates, then say that! at least every couple days.

the people involved in this fiasco in particular clearly don't need an education to find work in their field, and even in a forum, they don't know how to communicate. if i can go to another site other than gamesas.com and get answers that are supposedly here, then that means you **** up. BIG TIME. Make the **** you say more easily accessible.

as for Crytek not being too happy about pirates... they are about to turn me back into one.

DEVELOPERS KILL GAMES, NOT PIRATES!!!
FORUMS ARE DESIGNED TO GET BACK TO YOU WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT.
