Crysis 2 Multi GPU support causes insane flickering.

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 4:02 am

I agree. I fixed mine with the original .exe. I wonder if its system related.
Right now I'm running:

i7 2600k ; Asus P8P67 Pro (Sandy Bridge) ; 8Gb of Corsair Dominator 1600 C8 and a Sapphire 5970 2 Gb.
No OC on anything.

I've got a Gigabyte x58 ud9 with i7 980x , 12gb of Mushkin Blackline 2000 , and 3 way SLI gtx480's. OC on my CPU, but it makes no diff to this issue.. Been re-tested because of this and still stable at a moderate 4.5 gHz.

For single player use only (on steam), what about replacing the crysis2.exe in the bin directory with the original retail .exe 1.0?
Could someone post the original 1.0 exe?

Steam won't launch the game I'm pretty sure. It checks for the version of the exe I think. I'd try it if I could get a hold of the exe.

Even simply double clicking on the .exe file?
It works for launching a steam game, I've tried it when I try the rename trick...

Alt-tabbing out of startup screen so I could play in windowed mode worked for me (Steam version). Yes it's using half a 5970 but at least I can play and it runs at a good framerate.

I'm going to see if I can get ahold of the 1.0 exe somehow and try.

Not a single part in common...
I would like to blame the copy protection, but I've tried the "unpaid" version with no luck.

If i record the insane flickering through my iphone camera and watch it back, it's like there is no flickering at all, could it be a monitor hz issue?

well , if your phone is recording at say 30 FPS, and the monitor is refreshing at 60, but only flashing every second frame, then it could be that your phone was synced up with the flicker and only showing you the non-dark frames :)

So yeah it's possible.

Had the same idea a while back, so I tried diffrent hz (50 - 75 ) on my BenQ E2420HD with no luck...

Quick Update from a steam user (2x5970s): Flickering persists in the menu, until you open up brightness options and adjust it (doesn't matter which way, the flickering will stop). No more flickering in game HOWEVER my frame rate at 1920x1080 + Extreme is between 35 and 50.
Obviously this is completely playable, but it certainly seems a bit low to me. Anyone else with a similar setup mind posting their FPS? I think I had a higher frame rate whilst the flickering issues were around.

p.s I have all the latest drivers + profiles.

*Update* Having done some research, and comparing Nvidia's Crysis 2 benchmarks released I'd expect to be hitting 60FPS with a single 5970 (presuming the GTX580 and 5970 are relatively equal). Then factoring in Xfire scaling I'd expect 80-100FPS with 2x5970s. Anyone else mind publishing their current frame rates and what setup they are using?
I've got a Core i7 2600k OCd, so CPU isn't a bottle neck

This is starting to get a little ridiculous. Are we ever going to get an official fix for the flickering? Renaming .exe files and forcing App Profiles for different games is NOT a solution. Will someone please fix this?

Hellow Crytek!
As many of other people I faced the problem with "Crysis 2 Multi GPU support causes insane flickering."
I really tried to find some answers on the forums but nothing helped during my searchings.
As "nytiger73" has said: "This is starting to get a little ridiculous. Are we ever going to get an official fix for the flickering? Renaming .exe files and forcing App Profiles for different games is NOT a solution. Will someone please fix this?"

I had really loved the game and it's optimization, and it is very sorrowfully what flickering spoils all the impression of the game.
Thank you for your understanding.

Now I can confirm that replacing (downgrading) the exe file simply using the one found in the retail DVD (no need to reinstall the game!) works great even with the steam version. No more flicker, same performance!
Not a real solution, but for the single player campaign waiting the real fix... ;)

ccc 11.3 with 2x 5770's
cap 11.3 reduces flickering greatly but not 100%.
Performance svcks;

WCOC i7 930 @ 3.4, 6g 1600 ram yields;

~20 fps on extreme
~40 fps on very high

Doesn't run right, shows 100% on both gpu's but the fps is way too low, even for these cards..
The wait continues...

I've got a single 5970 ,core i7 960 3.2 GHz ,6 GB of ram and I play at 1920*1080 I have 30 to 60 fps and a little bit higher in MP but don't worry 5970 isn't compatible with ATI drivers just try changing some options in CCC specially mini-mapping and AA it will be fixed like myself I had fixed 60 fps with GTS 360 in my laptop in demo but here at my main rig I had about 40 to 50 frames in the mp!just some software issues nothing to worry about! nice machine you got !

Well My game updated on steam with a 40 mb DL just now, but no fix for this I'm afraid :(

EDIT, it did patch, but it rolled it back almost right away, so looks like i'm still on 1.1 after all.. well here's hoping 1.2 saves the game.
