Crysis 2 must utilize SLI and CrossFire

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 11:14 pm

Crysis 1 and Crysis WARHEAD did not scale so well under SLI and even less under CrossFire. With today's tech world moving as fast as it is, keeping up with the latest graphics cards just cost too much for common people, so the graphics companies created the ability to link multiple cards together, and save you from having to buy a whole new $400 graphics card.

I thought it was a brilliant idea, adding on to the resources you already have spells efficiency, and fatter wallet. But I was quite disappointed that Crysis did not show much performance gain at all when I installed a second HD 5850 at the cost of $240.

I hope Crytek has already made Crysis 2 much more efficient than Crysis and WARHEAD, taking advantage of our old equipment instead of buying new is quite favorable.

Who cares? As long as your above 30fps then you're good.

And if your not, lower the resolution. i got a bonus of 10FPS on enthusiast with a mobility 5850 and i7 q740 @ 2.9ghz.

so lowering the resolution from 1920 x 1080 to 1600 x 900 boosts me up to 25-30 fps from 15-20, without a hugely noticeable quality difference.

But yes, proper SLI and crossfire for Crysis 2 would be good for people wanting to get 50+ FPS.
for benchmarking purposes.
Why else would you need 50 FPS?

Crysis Warhead scales well with SLI/CF: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4061/amds-radeon-hd-6970-radeon-hd-6950/13

CF/SLI has improved a lot since 2007, so has people's resolution and CPU power in order to remove CPU bottlenecks.

Actually, I find it much easier on my budget to stay on the latest video card generation each time they come out, and to sell the old generation since they keep a good value over time. My GTX 285 that I am selling still has a $200 value, for instance, making upgrading to the GTX 570 really only cost me a total of $150.

Anyway, SLI and CrossFire scaling have drastically improved over the years, most recent games have scaling upwards of 80 - 90%, and I think that Crysis 2 will follow suit.

Actually, when running on lower resolutions you may have to increase the AA.

Louis, yeah i get what you mean, but 2x/4x anti-aliasing doesnt tend to drop you back 10FPS or so, not for me anyway :)

Crysis is reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaallllllyyy old (2007, lol).
Its less-than-perfect SLI/crossfire support shouldn't worry anyone :D
Crysis Warhead had much better support, and Crysis 2 will be another leap forward.

Sli/crossfirex are a standard now, every game that wants to be taken seriously on the PC needs to utilize them. One of problems with the original crysis was that is wasn't very good with scaling upon release (which is a combination of the game and the actual SLi/crossfire system which has matured immeasurably over the last two generations) , so pretty much no-one could max it even with two 8800GTX's!

I'm assuming post-launch C2 should be well ready for multiple-gpu support.I hope we aren't going to have to wait for a patch or a new driver profile just for it to work properly. Seems most PC games out now dont properly support Cfire/SLi

That would seem more appropriate than before, a lot has changed over the years. SLI type support should be reminded.
As long as my Pc rig can handle it, we'll be fine.

I'm not too worried since this IS Crytek after all. I'm just getting sick of turning off Cfire to play some of my games.

Well, Crytek confirmed that CE3 (in its current state) supports up to 8 CPU cores, so I doubt they will have trouble getting to scale with 2 GPUs. Remember, they got CRYSIS running on a $300 CONSOLE. Apparently their magic code fairies can do anything, so SLI/CF will probably scale almost perfectly (as it does in most modern, well-made, PC games).

If it can run on an XBox...

you realize this isnt the games job to do
its amd/nvidia who make the drivers and for them to scale well
