Crysis 2 Off Steam

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 12:52 pm

I'm pretty sure the answer to this is yes, but you never know these days. Will people that have purchased the game on Steam still get future updates? Now that the game is becoming an Origin-exclusive.

One of the stupidest decisions EA could make, tbh.

Origin, remember it takes more than 8 days to download crysis 2 with a connection of 10.5 Mbps.

Woop sorry misread that post.

Will they still provide steam support for current owners? I have Crysis 2 through steam and I better receive future updates or I'm gonna be pissed off!

I'm just wondering what Steam purchasers of Crysis 2 will do about current and future DLC. Also, if the DX11 patch lands and Steam users don't get the update, I know there will be a lot of really, really angry customers knocking on Crytek's door. Myself included.

No point really, those guys have turned a blind-eye towards us. And they continue to sell DLC maps included in the leaked beta for 10$

Buying a 60$ game is a joke, because you have DLCs which take the price up to 100$ in 6 months.

I think its a serious mistake and this will likely happen to more EA games as well. I'm guessing that Battlefield3 will hit the same process. Sadly, I WAS a lock to get into B3, but when you don't allow a proven digital distributor with solid service as a choice... I don't know if Origin is any good, but I know Steam is. If go through Origin, will I have to deal with that nightmare of a service called gamespy? I know I wouldn't thru Steam.

Sadly, a likely awesome game like B3, will be on my 'maybe list' now

Everyone seems to trust Steam's over inflated prices and DRM all because of convenience.

What makes you think you wouldn't? I'm pretty sure I've bought games on Steam that required Gamespy. Can't think of what they are right now...

This is terrible. Steam is not only a better service that I have used for over 7 years, way more sales than other services, and now EA without any news pulls Crysis 2 off steam.... I will not be buying their new games if they are available only on origin, but I would if they will still be available on steam when it comes to mass effect 3 especially. I hope they will rethink this blunder.

Crytek may want to check with EA as to what they are doing will hurt their player base.

You obviously don't use Steam. Best prices of ANY online game service, check it out around the holidays. It'll blow your mindgraqes...

If I could like your post, I would! haha. Yes WrATH1972, you might want to check out Steam for yourself, soon!

On topic though, EA is evil. Steam is an excellent service that has earned my trust.

I've heard reports that Crytek wanted Crysis 2 to be pulled off steam!

I hope that bioware has brains and makes Mass Effect 3 available and not an Origin exclusive.

And the decline of Crytek continues, letting it get taken off steam and the RIDICULOUS lack of attention to the PC version (your bread and butter audience) is just the start.

I hope whoever signed the soul over to EA is enjoying their bonus.... there wont be another one

EA is really crazy, i don't understand why they fight Steam so hard, you can buy Crysis online almost everywhere, but not on Steam ... WTF

Perhaps somebody should start a petition we can sign, i wonder how much gamers would prefer to buy EA games on Steam instead of Origin.

Because they're competitors to Steam now and they can sell their games where they want.

I don't use Steam? LOL. I only buy games on the sales and never buy full price games on Steam because they're much more expensive than the retail.

Steam: The Witcher 2 - £34.99.

Tesco Retail Boxed: The Wicher 2 - £24.99

I have not bought a boxed version of a game since Quake 4. Steam is an amazing service, and has a VERY loyal fanbase (for obvious reasons, great services through steam, support, deals, etc).

I will not use Origin even if a game is slightly cheaper. I dont need to pinch pennies that much and I would rather support an awesome company like Valve.

Im also very concerned about auto-updates. I have not had to download a patch for a game old school from a website for so long, Steam was on it. Will we still get updates or no? Crytek you need to clarify this.

LOL, penny pinching. You can buy whole games for the price you save on buying retail. I saved a whole £10 not buying The Witcher 2 from Steam and that's a half to third of the price for a new game. In the end it's upto you.

Everyone seems to trust Steam's over inflated prices and DRM all because of convenience.

WTF are you talking about? They don't have inflated prices nor hardly any DRM. Steam's DRM is non invasive unless the company producing the game decides to add additional DRM in the case of EA. Steam by default has the best DRM I've seen in the gaming industry when it comes to customer support. I've never had problems. Likewise steam has the same prices that any retail PC game costs. $50. The only "inflated" prices come from companies like Activsion and now Crytek who charged $60. That has nothing to do with Steam but the actual publisher/developer of that game.

GET YOUR **** FACTS STRAIGHT!

Anyways this does svck but I'm wondering if Steam will still provide support through patches? I do know that it was Steam's policy that EA violated so it wasn't EA's fault. It wasn't Crytek's fault either.

Here is what is really going on. It has nothing to do with EA's new service, or Crytek. Besides the fact that EA violated Steam's new policy.

GameFront wrote:

UPDATE: We’ve just received a response from EA. Apparently they did NOT pull Crysis 2 from Steam. Rather, it was a result of Steam’s policies. Here’s their response:

"It’s unfortunate that Steam has removed Crysis 2 from their service. This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA.

Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service – many of which are not imposed by other online game services. Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis 2 from Steam.

Crysis 2 continues to be available on several other download services including GameStop, Amazon, Origin.com and more."

EA Origin doesn't have DRM(the games might) anyway and if you think DRM is good then keep on dreaming. No DRM is good. So can you play your games without Steam then? No, you cannot. Valve take a cut of the profit, EA don't because it's their games, you should be able to work that one out if you get off your soapbox. Also note that what you just quoted actually backs up what I said about Steam.

The main reason why Value is so like by PC gamers is because they think they support PC games, yet Portal2 and they use an old engine back from 2004 for their games at full price.

EA don't take a cut of the profit? Your full of **** and you know it.

Yes the only good DRM is no DRM, but this is the year 2011 where everyone steals whatever they want. So unless your GOG.com every other distribution platform, publisher and developer will have DRM. Steam has the most non invasive DRM in the entire industry for current generation games. Anyone who says otherwise is just plain bloody stupid. Simple AS.

I can see your anti-steam just because your too damn ignorant to work things out. That's fine. If developers didn't make a profit off of steam and all the profit was given directly to valve, then why do soo many developers use it? Your entire "Valve get's 100% of the profit, no one else does." is pure nonsense. Yes Valve get a good percentage but the actual publishers, and developers get a good chunk as well. The only time valve makes a 100% of the profit is when they are the sole publisher and developer of the project, IE L4D, Portal, Half life.

Anyways an update @everyone else, I just got off the phone with EA support. Crysis 2 will still receive product support on Steam. Meaning you will still get any future updates and all the rest. It just means that Crysis 2 will no longer be sold on Steam. That's all. Everything else is still the same.

EDIT: Why do I need to worry about not having steam to play my games? By the time they go out of business I will never want to play those games again. Likewise I own the license so I'll just download them. So your whole "you can't play insert game here without steam" argument is just down right retarded.
