8800GT is really the minimum? I know it's old stuff in the PC world, but it's much stronger than the GPU in the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. Consoles are below minimum spec, then.

That means that (as I suspected) that midrange notebooks should have little trouble with Crysis 2. Amusingly, even my wimpy-shrimpy desktop (Celeron DC E1200, 3 GB, AMD HD5450) should cut the ketchup (even though I'm looking to upgrade to, at minimum, an HD5750 (AMD) or GTS450 (nV) on the GPU side, just as a safety/eyecandy factor). How often has *that* been the case for a shooter?

Essentially no dolphin, you won't be very high/max. However you should be able to play on medium, which'll still be pretty (and prettier than consoles too)!

What happened to CE3 being more optimized to run on lower end hardware?

I got a 7950GX2 that works sometimes but now I'm just disappointed...

You'll also run medium, but you can't expect much more, i mean, come on. That card is older than vista!

If your rig takes PCIe graphics, you can upgrade to HD5670/5750 (AMD) or GTS450 (nVidia) for barely $150 prior to rebates (after rebates, prices are closer to $100USD).

On the AGP side (yes, there are options even there), there are still some AMD HD4xxx GPUs that ride the AGP bus to work at around the same price. Any of those options should allow medium or high detail and no worse than 1280x720 (and that's even for the HD5670).

You should be good in 1024x768 on medium, and possibly 1280x720 on Low. Neither the GPU or CPU should be the holdup there; however, it's possible that the HDD (depending on type and age) may induce some lag.

MSI K9A2 Platinum V2
AMD Phenom II X4 940
8 GB DDR2 PC800
POWERCOLOR RadeOn HD 3870 512 MB DDR4
Vista 64

Is this enough for the graphics ?
Perhaps I can install a second graphic adapter so boath work in Crossfire mode.

I had 2GB of RAM, a 9600GT and an AMD Athlon X2 3800+ and I could run Crysis just fine on Vista. It was just 1280x1024 resolution and high settings, but still. <.<

I couldn't play the first one on medium at 1440x900 above 25fps with my 7950GX2... I hope my CPU was a bottleneck because I got a dual core now :)

My system has:
AMD Phenom X4 955 3.2Ghz Quad Core
4GB DDR3 Ram
Saphire Radeon HD 5770 1GB

I can max out crysis and warhead at 1440x900 and get smooth fps. Just hope I can do same with crysis 2.

I thought I remember Crytek mentioning somewhere during the launch of Crysis 2s debut trailer (or was that the first look of CryEngine 3 ?) that Crysis 2 will have system requirements lower than those of Crysis. This requirement sheet either makes that claim completely false or my memory weak. I mean, this is just about what the specifications of my PC are at the moment. And if these are the minimum requirements, then I wonder what the recommended specs will be - a GTX 480 ??? Gimme a break.

And what exactly do they mean by minimum specs ?? Are those specs required to run the game at its bare minimum (meaning anyone with a rig having specs lower than the ones mentioned here simply wont be able to run the game) ??? Or are these specs the specs required to run the game at console settings as in Grand Theft Auto IV. Either ways, I can already see that I'm not gonna have much fun playing this game !!!

Remember guys that this game is not open world style game like crysis 1 was. This is more walking on the rails and so theres less objects to draw, therefore game should run quite well with gtx 460 and above at high settings i think but im not getting hopes very high, but remember metro 2033.
But Crysis 2 is also multiplatform so the game suffers in graphcs because of consoles have old hardware. But if youre playing games because of the graphics youre doing it wrong.

Not really.
Although the first game was open world in the island sense of talking, the GPU never draws all the island at the same time :P so a big bunch of trees and a bunch of closed stores aren't that much of a diference. Remember that the CryEngine 3 it's a super optimized version of CryEngine 2 plus the console support, so naturally if you can Run Crysis on, let's say medium, 1280*1024 and no AA, you would (supposedly) be able to run Crysis 2 in high with the same settings.
