Crysis pc optimization help

Post » Wed May 20, 2009 5:50 am

Hi everyone im new to the forums and id like to ask some questions about crysis

I just built my first real gaming rig and im wondering what options on crysis i can tweak to maximize my video quality without setting my card on fire

im running a I7 930 at stock
GTX 470
6 gigs of corsair dominator ddr3 ram 1600

I can play the game at 1080p with max everything but my gpu starts to get into the 100 C range and my fps will drop and slow down when things get hectic

So my question is what options can i set to VERY HIGH and leave at HIGH so i can maximize the quality of my game without messing up my pc and geting alot of slow downs

Well, I'd recommend you get some cooling component's for your PC first. ALWAYS keep the temp down. If it gets too high (Not drugs) it will overheat and the PC will shut itself down to protect the hardware. Liquid cooling I know little about, although it would work, but fans are the cheaper way to go. Make sure you have good air circulation in the case, and clear out dust often. Dust will cause it to overheat as well. I may not know much about Crysis but I do know PC's

Oh, one other thing. Keeping your PC clean (Don't EVER use water, I use a small vacuum) will make your PC run better, and more quiet. My PC would make a lot of noise, but after I got a new fan (With Blue LED lights, just for looks) and cleaned it out, it seemed as though the fans turned off! Although they were just running really quiet. Make sure to have ALL of the cords unplugged before doing it. Don't want a "shocking" experience.

Download a program called MSI Afterburner. Use this to turn your fan speed up, it should help keep your card cool. Depending on your case and air cooling as a whole you may have to turn it up all the way to 100%

as hunter117 said, get some good cooling components and, If u are overclocking, try reducing the clock speed there. My old radeonHD3850 gets to about 77 degrees on high settings, even on levels where i lose framerate. 1024x768 no AA

Theres a good airflow in my pc, i put a huge zalman quiet cooler on the cpu, it seems to reduce the temp of the entire system.

and keep it free of dust as mentioned above.

Whats you're current cooling looking like? Just the PSU and the heatsink/fan for the CPU:?

I'd make sure you had a couple of larger fans on the front and rear of the computer, otherwise look into some air cooling kits and if you have the money I'd recommend water cooling it's generally seen as over the top and a bit stupid (hell, even I agree with that!) but it really will keep the pc colder.

oh wow awesome information hahaha ok guys lemme give some more details

my im currently using a Antec 902 Case with ttwo 120mm intake fans a 200mm top and 120mm back exhaust fan and a side panel vent with a 120mm fan slot directly on top of the gpu

my CPU has a Cool master hyper 212 + on it My current issue is that the CPU cooler SLIGHTLY sticks out into where my 120mm side fan should be so im looking to get either a thiner 120 mm fan or just modify one and cut off a corner wich is totally fine i just wanna know if the 120mm Fan on the side will make a noticeable difference on my gpu temps ANd AGAIN if anyone knows crysis well and could tell me what settings i can tweak to provide less stress on my gpu and which i can get away with having on

ALSO how does one disable onboard AA and AF ??

p.s. I have EVGA Percision tool so i know about the fan profiles lol the default 40% was pretty ridic i have my gpu at a constant 60% and 75%-80%when gaming

If it is getting that hot turn it all the way up to 100%. What case do you have, and what fans? Can you maybe take some pictures?

@Dooms87, wiv a sis like that, seem you even got the rite scr/name aswell as a good spec machine, all I can add is why dont you drop all levels down to a lower setting, A gd cleanout in the works, witha can o fresh air helps at times, and then start with turning up the more demanding settings and see what u get with each, its a pain in butt job but gets to the root ? gd luck mate

well im wondering if i can lower shadows and the resolution some and leave everything else max and it will be fun im playing it fine right now at all max 1400x900 but having my fans at 100% isnt my ideal situation

im currently playing without the side of my case on and my temps don't go over 81 so its defiantly a intake issue

Can you try playing with the side off and then see what kind of temps you get? Everything I see is great. What are your ambient temps?

ok everyone So ive found the culprit it's the side of my case i need to modity it and jerry rig a 120mm fan onto it because im currently gaming without the side on and the fan set to 80% and my gpu barely goes over 81 C

Thought that might be the problem hehe. I used to have an antec 900. It is very useful to cut some holes for cable management. I also put 3 120mm fans in front, cut a hole in the bottom for my PSU fan, and tape a 120mm fan on top of my GPUs. Needless to say it stayed very cool
