Crysis 2 possessing some Brink similarities?

Post » Sat May 29, 2010 12:01 pm

A friend of mine showed me a video of the crysis 2 multiplayer. And I'm kind of intrigued. I'll definitely be playing it if Brink isn't already out by then. But I felt like it was in the brink spirit in some ways. With the way the XP was registering on screen which is also similar to the bullet storm scheme. Tagging the action and listing the points and action name. And there was some definite parkour and leveling aspects to the game that were interesting and kind of similar. Anyone else have Brink deja vu when they saw the multi player gameplay video for crysis 2?

Edit: the second video had a bit more climbing and stuff, but it still doesnt make me think of brink much.

After he breaks that guy's neck who decloaks and throws the grenade up into that balcony he does a flying leap across the room catching hold of the ledge and then jumping up to another ledge and mantling up. But apparently according to some stuff I've read there will be some addition parkour type movements available to the soldiers in the game. Including the single player campaign which you use to get the high ground against your foe. Pretty interesting stuff.

I might dike around with a cloak and shotgun loadout if it's available, otherwise, from an over simplified glance, it looks like another Modern Warfare with Reach's Armor Abilities.

That said, it didn't really look like Brink, and I'll probably be getting it if it doesn't eat my graphics card alive.

Reach as great as they make it out to be?

It could be if you were able to choose your own weapons in more game modes and they removed a few of the power weapons, the matchmaking selection for Reach is laughable at best compared to server systems unless you're a DMR (Reach's short rifle) [censored] and you can get over the fact that Reach's bloom system is a steaming load of RNG. The only playlists which have different weapon loadouts are Firefight which has you facing AI covenant, and Invasion which only lets you choose your weapon after two up to for minute sessions of choiceless loadouts. To top it off, Bungie actually removed some of the custom game options from Halo 3 such as Infection Alpha Zombies, which was a huge slap in the face to most people who actually paid attention to their friend lists.

Forge World and Armor Abilities are at least fun if you're into map maping and/or into more than just run and gun games respectivly.

(Oh, and off topic thread ftw)

I didn't think it was terribly off topic. I was making comparison to brink. You can tell it's definitely gonna be more of a lone wolf game in some ways but it's gonna have that great quake wars/brink objective multiplayer thing going. The video you were looking at those soldiers were trying to figure out where a ship was going to crash land and intercept it and it's always random. And the player who's perspective we were watching from passed through a building so I imagine that whole parkour thing will come into effect alot. But it'll never be as cool as brink.

I can see it before my eyes, people getting really annoyed when they spawn and some guy just assassinates them, or that they get assassinated by a nano-tech Soldier out of no where.

Apart from that, it looks pretty nice, this Crysis 2 thing.

Also, to remain on the topic, I think that Crysis ''park our'' thing is just like Modern Warfare 2s and Black Ops? Click A to hop up, and if in the right place, keep clicking A to get higher, or maybe I missed something :l

I haven't checked out the recent videos of Crysis 2 but the first one didn't strike me as being too similar to Brink. You can jump considerable distance with the strength enhancement and run very quickly with the speed enhancement but when you're in the actual game it plays very differently.

I'll check out those videos after I do some dishes. As for being off topic, it's fine to discuss a game in comparison to Brink, people do it with other FPSs all the time.

I understand where you're coming from now. When you combine the weapon/mod/suit load-outs and the XP with the freedom of movement it does bear more than a passing similarity to Brink. However while these similarities may be more than superficial I do think the gameplay will be quite different in both.

I don't know if they'll keep it for Crysis 2 but one of the two multiplayer modes in the original game, Power Struggle, actually had an XP like system (called prestige) and the gameplay was somewhat objective based, although it leaned more towards team deathmatch. It required a ton of people to work well however and there weren't many people behind it, at least not when I tried it out.

Even if Power Struggle makes it to Crysis 2 I imagine it will feel fairly different to Brink: individual load-outs won't feel as different as Brink classes, you can only change load outs if killed, and without different body types pretty much everyone has the same movement options. Power Struggle in Crysis also isn't as objective based as Brink will be and the objectives of the game mode don't change.

Crysis 2 defintely won't have the individuality of Brink for sure. But there's some things about it that I think will have the same fun spirit Brink has which will make me definitely want to check it out regardless. Does brink let you climb a wall til you're about to mantle up and then jump off like you would in a platformer to cross a gap?

I can see where you're getting it from, but it's not too much of a similarity.
It's basicly the only thing they have in common that isn't standard issue in your everyday shooter.

I mean. Crysis has things in common with Deus Ex as well with the upgrades and whatnot. But it's neat. The multiplayer will keep me entertained if it comes out long before Brink.

Maybe, I don't tend to think about it when playing a game that may be similar to another. My friend does and it annoys the hell out of me.

Example:

"It's kind of odd that you can spawn on your squadmate in Halo: Reach, they copied it from Battlefield for sure" or "Black Ops has a theatre mode? They copied that from Halo: Reach how else do you explain it?".

It annoys me so much, all this copying talk...

Sir that's not even what I was saying. Calm down. There's no way to know who started what first with two games in development at the same time anyway so that is stupid. I was saying that there's some similar things. And they are cool similar things. And it seems like a cool game. So chill out.

I was making a general point about similarities to different games and how my 'slow' friend misinterperates them. Im not angry at your post, I read it and agreed with it (without making a post of course), so relax. Im not here to flame you till theres only ash left, quite the opposite. :flamethrower::D

I played the Crysis 2 multiplayer and it does feel alot more like Halo than like BRINK.

Also the whole "extended movement"-.thing (not really Parkour) has been in the Crysis and Crysis Warhead multiplayer already. Even though it would not display on your screen, your character does vault over objects like handrails with an animation and not just a simple jump.

I saw another vid of Crysis 2 where the guy slid, and fired his SCAR. Y'all know it's similar.

It'll be cool to have the SMART system, Maximum Speed and Maximum Strength put together.
