Crysis 2 Review after extensive play.

It has to be one of the most painstakingly crafted games I have ever played. Sure people bash it for the rushed pc mp demo and lack of graphical options etc. But these options are there if you just take the time to read the commands or download the excellent community made graphical options program.

The single player is simply epic, I never had to much fun messing around since the original Deus Ex. Tried many missions several times in different ways, there is run and gun, stealth or enviormental improvision where I kick cars to crush groups of enemies, throw explosive barrels at people etc. This game can be so much fun if you look past its minor issues.

The graphics are amazing, mostly the amount of objects and detail to several of them makes the world seem rich and awe inspiring. I noticed a few textures that were bad but overall the game is greater than the sum of its parts, just stare at your weapon for a second and notice all the text, bumps, textures and crevices.. now do the same for your enemies and you'll realize what a painstaking project it must have been. The art team deserves an award, does anyone know how many eyes the seph enforcer have?

Crysis 2's Campaign is epic and of great length, I was waiting for it to be over as I have unfortunately grown accustomed to call of duty length games.. however the action was fun, fast, creative and intresting till the very end. This game has the perfect blend of scripted events and sandbox elements which crysis 1 is famous for.

While there isn't a huge open island like crysis 1, the areas are bigger than most shooters and are crammed with alternate routes, more so than the first game.

People are too harsh on Crytek, they had the incredible challenge of designing a game that would work on outdated hardware (consoles). With all the limitations, especially memory bandwidth, I believe they have done increidible in delivering the best looking and playing shooter on that system.

Sure if crysis 2 was a pc exclusive it could have been a lot better, no doubt about it, but afterall its a business and multi platform support rakes in a ton of money. Despite all this, the game itself is excellent and will give most fps out there a run for its money.

The AI in crysis 2 is hard to sum up with a rating. At times I feel the AI is excellent in responding to you nearby, flanking your last known location or keeping you informed with radio pvssyr when they detected your last kill corpse.. however their might be twice as many occasions where they get stuck in a corner, a wall or simply won't turn turn around. What really bothered me however is enemies being able to see me through foliage or anything that can exchange gunfire but blocks line of sight. So many stealth missions gone awry because the AI can see me through a wall that covers most of my body. Cranking up the difficulty definitely felt like the AI has improved but some of their core problems don't go away even on the highest difficulty settings. But being a sandbox type game I was quick to forgive the lack luster AI as I was too busy experimenting with new paths to an objective.

Lastly the multiplayer, while I can't recommend the mp over games like bad company 2 the formula this game copies is better excuted that games of late. By that I mean games like Homefront, COD: Black Ops etc. Nanosuits add a whole new layer of strategy to the game and while the market is a bit saturated with killstreak reward shooters, Crysis 2 makes anti-camper changes by making you run to pick up slain enemy dogtags for your killstreak rewards.

You have to realize why Crytek chose this formula, the original Crysis and Crysis Wars didn't fare so well in their MP department, so they took something that was well accepted and added their blend to it, nothing wrong with that. While some will hate it and others love it, its a matter of personal taste and how overstaurated you are with these type of shooters. Most people that hate this style I believe actually liked it when they played it in Call of Duty but over the years got bored with the repetitiveness and learnt to hate the MP.

As mentioned above the MP isn't something I can recommend over games like Bad Company 2 but it is fun and makes a better addition to the excellent SP game than the original Crysis and Crysis: Warhead counterparts did.

I definiately recommend Crysis 2 to anyone who is big on shooters, even with the saturated shooter market Crysis 2 is one of the top contendors and the best shooter to come out this year 8.5/10.

You said it right man. This game is freakin grade A magic right here. Its one of the best FPSs I have played since the first one which I loved. There are a few glitches in the game but I sure they will be fixed but those glitches no where near hindered me from completing this game just a few minutes ago. Crytech did an amazing job once again like they always do, people just need to . I still kind of wished they could have had DX11 features, 64bit exe and sandbox (had to bring those up lol) done for release but guess we have to wait because I'm sure like you said fitting this game to work on console hardware took time they could have had to put those feature into the PC version.

I still kind of wished this game was another Crysis to push PC hardware to the limits. I use to like how when Crysis 1 came out and I had my 8800 GTS 320MB as I got better hardware when I sold m 8800 a year and a half later and got GTX 275 and sold that another year and a half later and got my GTX 480 the game became more entertaining as time went on and the game was already amazing from the start.

I disagree with this statement.

The truth is people in this forum complaigning are pc gamers not console gamers. I wanted an experience that is geared towards the platfrom I am playing on but instead I got a consoel game that works on my pc.

The game is by no means bad, but the lack of pc centric features and graphic settings along with the host of bugs is what the real issue is.

The game and just the game by itself is great, Its just everything outside of that is what has ruined the experience

i got my pc limited edition version yesterday from game and thought begining was ok , but as the game goes on it just gives me goose bumps..iv played about 4-5 hours so far on medium diff..my god am i enjoying the game , using it on alienware Aurora LX with overclocked i7 920@3.6ghz ,12gb 1800mhz Dominator GT. X-fi titanium, GTX480 , 2x500GB Velociraptors in raid0 ..on extrme setting and this game just flys ..its blisteringly fast and to be honest i dont care about the graphic settings as in one way its a relief as when i had crysis 1 all i was doing was tweak tweak tweak tweak and more tweaking ,, i di more tweaking with grpahics than playing the game as i was playing on a quad core 2.4ghz cpu with sli 8800gtx's..

the game is simply amazing ..!!!

not really bothered for multiplayer as i would of bought 360 version if i wanted it for multiplayer and as im a crysis 1 fan and i mean a fan as played it and completed it about 20 times easy, not forgetting crysis warhead and played that to death too.

i like the new control system too but something tells me that this was made for the console fans benifit and im using a 360 wired controller.

dont slate it just play it ..

tl;dr version:

Crysis 2 is an excellent game. I'm playing at 1080p on PC at the Extreme quality setting. It's fluid and looks great. Multi-player is awesomely fun too!

EPIC Story GAMPLAY you say,are you kidding me huh?!
You have a bad taste i can tell you for sure!
The Only Games i found to have an EPIC gameplay where:

1-Metro 2033 (Just can`t find right words .You have to play it to understand me)
2-COD Modern Warefare 2 (The second best game on my list)
3-MOH 2010 (I find it a good gameplay, the closer to an end the better it is)

I finished singleplayer of Crysis 2 and it won`t fit-in for sure in first 10 best games i`ve ever played.
I find the Crysis 1 story way better and EPICer than the C2 story.
If i look at concept arts / video trailers or even listen to the music which are great and epic,BUT the actual C2 game just don`t have this epicness in it and it`s sad. The levels in trailers look more dramatic & epic ,than the actual in the game itself.
Also i don`t like the fact that i`m a super soldier thats doing the "ONLY" thing in whole game is killing the same type of aliens or contractor soldiers, why not give the storyline abiut twist by litterly using my abilities to save some citizens in epic scenes , help people escape building while it`s collapsing. The whole atmospheric feeling that i get of Concept Arts / Music / Trailers just don`t match the feelings when i play the game. There is no single scene in C2 that i can call EPIC,quastion me about Metro 2033 or MW2 and you`ll get a long list.
The game concept/synopsis is about drama ,epicness , people`s edge of extinction and last hope is a man in NanoSuit ,but i just don`t see it in game or story and it hurts me alot.
Btw the end scene of MOH, it`s hard and trully true story, no happy endings, that`s what wakes UP those epic feelings in me.
You can judge me or not,BUT i do know that i do have a taste in stories/music/epic shots.
So far game failed in all ways for me , graphics was the last hope ,but DX11 got cutted out.

I agree!

Actual gameplay is a blast. Menus are something else though... servers need to be fixed as well. Why don't we have listen servers?

Crytek PROMISED DX11 features as well as solely focusing on making an outstanding Technical PC Game.

THEY LIED. You dont' have to play the whole game to hate that they did that.

I've played it twice through already and I can say its a great looking and fantastic game that could have been EVEN BETTER...but whatever, PC gaming is dead anyway...
