The single player is simply epic, I never had to much fun messing around since the original Deus Ex. Tried many missions several times in different ways, there is run and gun, stealth or enviormental improvision where I kick cars to crush groups of enemies, throw explosive barrels at people etc. This game can be so much fun if you look past its minor issues.
The graphics are amazing, mostly the amount of objects and detail to several of them makes the world seem rich and awe inspiring. I noticed a few textures that were bad but overall the game is greater than the sum of its parts, just stare at your weapon for a second and notice all the text, bumps, textures and crevices.. now do the same for your enemies and you'll realize what a painstaking project it must have been. The art team deserves an award, does anyone know how many eyes the seph enforcer have?
Crysis 2's Campaign is epic and of great length, I was waiting for it to be over as I have unfortunately grown accustomed to call of duty length games.. however the action was fun, fast, creative and intresting till the very end. This game has the perfect blend of scripted events and sandbox elements which crysis 1 is famous for.
While there isn't a huge open island like crysis 1, the areas are bigger than most shooters and are crammed with alternate routes, more so than the first game.
People are too harsh on Crytek, they had the incredible challenge of designing a game that would work on outdated hardware (consoles). With all the limitations, especially memory bandwidth, I believe they have done increidible in delivering the best looking and playing shooter on that system.
Sure if crysis 2 was a pc exclusive it could have been a lot better, no doubt about it, but afterall its a business and multi platform support rakes in a ton of money. Despite all this, the game itself is excellent and will give most fps out there a run for its money.
The AI in crysis 2 is hard to sum up with a rating. At times I feel the AI is excellent in responding to you nearby, flanking your last known location or keeping you informed with radio pvssyr when they detected your last kill corpse.. however their might be twice as many occasions where they get stuck in a corner, a wall or simply won't turn turn around. What really bothered me however is enemies being able to see me through foliage or anything that can exchange gunfire but blocks line of sight. So many stealth missions gone awry because the AI can see me through a wall that covers most of my body. Cranking up the difficulty definitely felt like the AI has improved but some of their core problems don't go away even on the highest difficulty settings. But being a sandbox type game I was quick to forgive the lack luster AI as I was too busy experimenting with new paths to an objective.
Lastly the multiplayer, while I can't recommend the mp over games like bad company 2 the formula this game copies is better excuted that games of late. By that I mean games like Homefront, COD: Black Ops etc. Nanosuits add a whole new layer of strategy to the game and while the market is a bit saturated with killstreak reward shooters, Crysis 2 makes anti-camper changes by making you run to pick up slain enemy dogtags for your killstreak rewards.
You have to realize why Crytek chose this formula, the original Crysis and Crysis Wars didn't fare so well in their MP department, so they took something that was well accepted and added their blend to it, nothing wrong with that. While some will hate it and others love it, its a matter of personal taste and how overstaurated you are with these type of shooters. Most people that hate this style I believe actually liked it when they played it in Call of Duty but over the years got bored with the repetitiveness and learnt to hate the MP.
As mentioned above the MP isn't something I can recommend over games like Bad Company 2 but it is fun and makes a better addition to the excellent SP game than the original Crysis and Crysis: Warhead counterparts did.
I definiately recommend Crysis 2 to anyone who is big on shooters, even with the saturated shooter market Crysis 2 is one of the top contendors and the best shooter to come out this year 8.5/10.
