Crysis 3 ripped me off

Post » Wed Feb 27, 2013 9:15 am

My PC gets better graphics than my Playstation 3; period. So I always opt for the PC version of games. Which was the case yesterday when I bought Crysis 3.

And after I installed it, I found out I couldn't play it because it requires a directx11 video card. My PC is a monster but it does not play directx11. I called back the gaming store today and discovered I can't get my money back or exchange Crysis 3 for a ps3 version. So I wasted about 70 bucks yesterday on a game I can't play, sell, exchange, or get my money back. WHY DIDN'T CRYTEK PUT IN BOLD LETTERS ON THE FRONT OF THE CASE "REQUIRES DIRECTX11???????"

I wonder how many other people wasted their money on Crysis 3. I didn't even know this game was out until I saw it at the game store; so don't tell me I "should just know." My PC can easily play anything; there was no reason to suspect it couldn't run this game.

A big thumbs down to Crytek for causing a whole new era in wasting money on a new PC you don't really need. I won't be buying anything made by these guys ever again. -.-

Requirements are on the box/case. No one to blame but yourself for not bothering to look. Sorry.

You read the fkin specs before buying it like any smart person would, you can't blame Crytek for user stupidity.

User stupidity? They're selling this game for PLAYSTATION 3 which I already said, gets WORSE GRAPHICS than my computer. Why in the f-k would I check the requirements for a game that's sold on a system that's inferior to my PC rig? Do you see my point?

I haven't had to "read the requirements" for so long on any PC game I began to neglect the practice. It seems this era is over. Still; I don't see why DX10 isn't an option with this game. I've seen it run and it wasn't so "mind blowing" to me that DX10 couldn't handle it, but this is just my opinion. Sorry to piss off all you fan boys.

Because your PS3 runs on 11 year old Dx9 technology, Crysis 3 is pushing the limits and saying F**k you to backwards compatibility. Honestly its your own fault for not looking at the minimum specs.

Because the game engine uses Dx11 as a backbone, literally the grass waving in the wind is being powered by sheer tessellation. Dx10 would not suffice.

If they can put this game on 11 year old dx9 ps3 technology as you just stated, I will repeat msyelf, there is NO reason why it shouldn't be dx10 compatible. And to make the leap to REQUIRING dx11, they should definitely showcase this information on the FRONT of the box, or at least in big letters on the back. Not in some puny little box you have to squint to read.

The world is moving forward, buddy... it's not lingering in the past..

Crytek are known for their outstanding visuals so they are trying to push this on PC and get the best out of it, which, logically would be the choice of using DX11 as they have done.

It's also logical to read the requirements, it's down to your own fault you wasted your money, not Crytek.

You don't go build a PC and say "Right, I'll take that... hmm, that looks good as well.. Oh! and maybe that?" without knowing if they're compatible with each other... You check first, just like with specs...

Q: Why is Crysis 3 only DX11? Why don't they support DX9/10 like most other games?

Once again, for a number of reasons:
1. Technological progression: DX9 has been out since Windows XP, DX10 since Windows Vista. Crytek wishes to move on from the old technology to make another push within modern gaming, like the original Crysis was. Crysis 3 will be the first AAA game to run only DX11.
2. Having multiple code paths results in more complex code, more development time and more de-bugging. The game would be around two months behind of what it currently is if they had to use two DirextX Versions. Also the game would be more prone to graphical bugs, since Q&A time would have to be split between the versions.
3. CryEngine 3 does not support DirectX10, so the engine would have to be rewritten with support for DX10 with every little feature, then bug tested, of which would've put the game behind at least 3 months.
4. Optimising game/drivers for one DX pathway is quick and easy.
5. DX11 is faster in most situations than previous DX's.
