Crysis 2 Sandbox on Consoles

Post » Tue Oct 19, 2010 7:47 am

How will the sandbox in the console version of Crysis 2 be differed to the PC version?
Because if there are differences that are differences concerning the features between the features then that will spoil the sandbox element of the game for me.

First question:

Is it confirmed that sandbox will be on consoles?
I never heard anything about it.

Even if there will be sandbox ed on the consoles... it just can not be like the one on the Pc. Its sad enough that a game must be cut down to fit on a console but a editor?
How awkward do you want this editor to be? The only thing i could imagine is a Mapmaker like the one from Starcraft 2 or something... simple as hell.
Consoles are just not made for Editors like these.
What is next? A UDK for consoles? Come on!

Hi there,

There's been no announcement regarding Sandbox for Crysis 2 on PC or Consoles. You'll no doubt hear about it here and at Crymod.com if/when an announcement is made :)

Cheers.

Ummm, look at many map editors from games like Far Cry 2 and Halo Reach and that pretty much shatters your points that a map editor can't be done by Crytek for the consoles. Sure, it will have to be gutted, but that doesn't mean that those who play on the consoles won't enjoy what they do recieve.

I expect that with the next generation of consoles, maybe a UDK actually will be released, but who knows.

OP as of now, there is nothing announced about a Crysis 2 Editor on the consoles.

I think thats a bit of an over the top expectation.
Consoles are build for playing games.. and not creating them.
A Mapcreator and/or something basic and easy to use is okay.
As long as it isnt too complex at all.

With something like UDK you can actually "make" games.
How do you want this to work on a console due to the fact that even the next gen of consoles will not be able to get hardwareupgrades?
Because the more objects and stuff you put in a level or a game.. you may cause an overload to the console. This would be a warranty horror-scenario!
How do you want to do the scripting and all that stuff?
You would need to expand the consoles capabillities to a point till its not a console anymore.

I think its just a logical reason that Complex Editors and Developer Kits belong to Pcs.

If a console editor was made, it wouldn't be to make a completely new game. No, that would be most suited for a PC.

This is just a map editor, and there's no problem with that. Many games have this, and this makes up completely new communities. Plus, it's more bang for your buck, if you will.

You could also make a basic flowgraph system if you had an editor for consoles. If you look at it in a different way, it's not impossible to achieve.

Something similar to what we saw in Far Cry 2 would be nice for those who get the console version. You could make some pretty decent maps with that editor.

In Crytek's Web it is possible to see that if there will be a editor for the consoles.

If you look in this page (http://crytek.com/cryengine/cryengine3/overview) the editor can meet in a PC connected to 360 and to a PS3 like that that I suppose for these images that if that will have of a editor.

This is in the Crytek's Web:

"CryENGINE?3 also introduces CryENGINE?3 Live Create? (Simultaneous WYSIWYP on all platforms). This allows developers to work with a single editor, but see and play the results in real-time on PC, PlayStation?3 and Xbox 360?, hooked up to a single dev PC. The engine takes care of the

conversion and optimization of assets in real-time, enabling instant, cross-platform changes to any part of game creation and, as a result, materially increasing the speed and quality, while significantly reducing the risk of multi-platform development."

Sorry for my english :D

You would definitely be right Dany_naron except that CryEngine3 is only given to game development companies that of course have to pay for the licence of CE3 to use it. So gamers/modders wont be able to mod crysis 2 unless Crytek release a version of CE3 that is only limited to creating or editing maps and some minor modding.

I can't imagine them giving us the full version of CE3 freely with crysis 2 because that will give us the potential to make and sell our own high quality AAA games.

Crytek has made and perfected a spectalularly polished engine and game development solution which deserves to be paid for and can only be paid for by game development companies.

I agree it would be nice to get a version of CE3 with crysis 2 that would allow us to create/edit maps and some minor modding. It almost sounds standard to get a map editor with Crytek's new release because they've given us map editors along with all their games so far.

We'll get the full version of Cryengine 3 / Sandbox 3, but of course we can't just make and sell what we make on the free version.

Not if you want to get a nice lawsuit, that is.

The pc version of the game is ofcourse confirmed, but not the editor. We will have to wait on more information from Crytek.

It would be nice that the users were having a editor. I believe that it is one of the big things that Crysis has.

I when it ends the 1 put to do things with the editor and I like me very much, he would say that the editor is 75 % of the game in the Crysis 1.

I suppose that Crytek will not want to reveal anything till now or probably even do not have very clearly if it will be worth it. I don't know

No, but consoles barely have the power to run Crysis 2. They won't have the ability to run a fully-featured editor.

I doubt that the consoles could have an own editor but probably having a computer and connecting to the console work like the one that might go to PC, this everything in case there was editor.

I do not believe that they leave the fans of the consoles without editor if not the game would differentiate too much of the PC game.

Not at all.

Console gamers aren't really interested in an editor.

If they were, they'd have a gaming PC.
