Crysis 2 1.9 : no sound effects, but music works

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 3:17 pm

Hi !

I just grabbed Crysis 2, installed 1.9 patch and DX11 pack, the game runs perfectly but I have no sound effects at all ! The music works fine though. I have 5.1 speakers. Realtek driver 6.0.1.6482 (ie the latest as of today)

From the logs, sounds init sounds ok :
Sound initialization
Initializing AudioDevice now!
Initialize FMOD with dynamic memory callbacks
Starting to initialize Windows Audio Session API output!
Drivers found: 3
Available drivers:
1. Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
2. Realtek Digital Output(Optical) (Realtek High Definition Audio)
3. Realtek Digital Output (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Using speaker mode: FMOD_SPEAKERMODE_5POINT1
Initializing FMOD-EX now!
Initialized FMOD-EX
Record config is set to autodetect using record driver 0
Using FMOD version: 00043307 and internal 00043307!
Initializing SoundSystem now!

but the sound effects are absent. I began playing and then I saw this in the logs :
[flow] Sound:Dialog - Can't play sound 'suit_male/suit_voice_system_override'!
[flow] Sound:Dialog - Can't play sound 'suit_male/suit_voice_please_stand_by'!

Has anybody experienced this ? Is there a fix ?

Thanks !

This is new. In order of easy:

* Sometimes the fancy sound-card "effects" applications that are often installed with the driver can cause trouble. Try disabling them in startup using MSCONFIG or CCLEANER so that there is nothing between the game and the actual driver. If that works, you can then re-enable them and figure out which "feature" is causing the trouble.

* It could suggest a mangled SOUNDS.PAK file... Try reinstalling. If the problem goes away, do an integrity check on your drive!

* If those fail you could try different driver versions or sound card...

Looked like a good idea but it didn't work :( I also completely removed the driver and ran the game with the generic windows driver, same issue.

Well the MD5 for my sounds.pak file is 9f487a0916d88422cb391fd76b77bc3a (version 1.9 + DX11 pack). Could anyone confirm this ?
Also I reinstalled the game around 10 times now (to check various patches), always the same thing.

* If those fail you could try different driver versions or sound card...
(?)

I also tried the game disabling my main sound card and plugging in my Microsoft Gaming Headphones (USB), same sound issue :(

The "Sound" volume bar in the game is set to 100, maybe there is a CVAR that can disable the sound ? I tried to find one but couldn't...

Thanks for you help

Well, it aint hardware or drivers, and I would say it wasn't a garbled file on top of a bad section of disk, either. You have been thorough.

But maybe..... I get this MD5 on sounds.PAK: B7B09A79B23C13B6C226DD5AEA5B1635

This file, in ..\gamecrysis2, has a file size of 542,377. I have the steam version....
I used MD5 Checker 2.31 downloaded from Softpedia.com. Maybe someone else might submit another hash?
