Crysis 2 - Support - DX11 - Some truths

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 1:06 pm

On one hand, even though there are tons of problems and complaints floating around, I do LOVE the game :D However that is the only positive note...

On the other hand you would hope that....

1. If someone bought a special edition of this game, and didn't get the extras included, that Crytek would either sort the problem out or at least respond to emails telling members not to worry blah blah blah. So far I have had nothing which is rather disappointing.

2. It would be nice for Crytek to admit to its members that the DX11 patch will not make the game DX11 as most people on here would seem to think. The game was built using DX9 correct? Therefore you cant patch it to DX11, you would have to rebuild the code. Instead of responding to members threads saying "Don't ask the same questions..." or "don't bump your own threads" you could use that same energy to make a post clearing this matter up.

Just to make it clear for members on here, you can't patch a native DX9 game into a DX11 game.

3. Will the next patch fix/improve crossfire/SLI? (Yes part of it is down to GPU drivers, though its also true the game was never made to be optimized for crossfire/SLI) Is a bit cheeky telling people to turn off one off their GPU's don't you think? I'm not playing a game from the 90's

4. Crytek mods seem to spend alot of time deleting threads, rather than responding to them. Nice to see customer support is priority. (Sense the sarcasm)

As I said at the start of my post, personally, I do love the game. I have no doubt future patches will fix alot of the bugs in the game like nano's disappearing etc etc, however it would also be nice to get what I paid for and for Crytek to spend more time responding to posts, rather than deleting them.

What I don't understand is why people are so hell-bent on DX11 like it's some kind of miracle.
The game looks great and runs great. I don't recall Crytek ever PROMISING there was going to be DX11 on release. Sure, DX11 may bring performance benefits and that would be nice. But I see people yelling: "TESSELLATION!" like it is a core part of DX11 and that it HAS to be in Crysis 2. Look at BFBC2 and its lack of tessellation despite it being a DX11 game. Look, just because some DX11 graphics benchmarks and demonstrations feature graphical features doesn't mean every DX11 application HAS to include them.

Realistically, what do you think DX11 could bring to Crysis 2?
Crytek has better things to fix than to worry about DX11 which most people have no idea what it really represents anyway.

The first game had DX10 support so it would make sense for this game to at leas have support for DX10. Apparently the leaked beta had DX10 support, i can't confirm that though but if it's true then Crytek are lazy as hell.

If you look through your root folders there are DX11 files in it, I am guessing that there will be a patch that unlocks it....much like DLC

Yes the game plays smooth but because Crysis and Crysis Warhead gave the PC gamer many different graphical video settings i guess the PC crowd expected Crysis 2 to surpass the previous series in technology. I have to agree the texture are not as good as the first games. DirectX 11 should offer better shadows, lighting and of course tessellation which should make the game world look more rich and detailed, but if the texture resolution is low then it is a complete waste of time. I enjoy playing the game but only in 3D because you don't really notice what is missing with regards to fine detail found within the Crysis 2 game world. Plus, there are no end user mod tools and no editor to boot, so yeah, PC gamers have the right to complain somewhat more so than the console community because originally development of the Crysis game started on the PC/Windows platform.
