Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 12:44 pm

Hi, I am looking at buying the 'New XPS 17' Laptop from dell and was just wondering if anyone knows if crysis 2 supports the 3GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M Graphics card. I'v heard that the game has some conflicts with a few graphics cards. I dont want to spend around £900 on a laptop and it not support the main game i want to play.
This is the laptops spec
Genuine Windows? 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
2nd generation Intel? Core? i7-2630QM processor 2.00 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz
17.3" HD+ WLED True-Life (1600x900) with 2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera
3GB NVIDIA? GeForce? GT 555M Graphics Card
6GB (1x2GB) (1x4GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
DVD+/-RW (DVD, CD read and write)
500GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
9-cell 90Whr Lithium Ion battery
Intel? Centrino? Wireless-N 1000 (EUR)

Any help would be great, Thanks!

Well from looking at benchmarks, it should run at Very high settings at a resolution of 1440 x 900. So yes it will run well.

I would be very scepticle how well it would run.

I have not seen any Laptop that can truely run Graphics intensive games well.

I tried Crysis 2 on my laptop over the weekend, it's a Samsung r590, which has an i5 450m, 4GB ram and an nVidia GT330m 1GB, and it runs at 30fps avg on "High" at 1360x768, so a laptop with the much newer and more powerful GT 555m should be fine. Good luck!

Cheers for the replies, i ended up ordering the same spec as above apart from the processor (i ordered the next model up) and the Ram (ordered 8GB instead on the 6GB) a bit overkill but hopefully all games will run on it with no problems.

You should be very happy with it. I lived in a small place when I picked up my Alienware laptop since there was no room for a desktop and I run almost every game at max settings at 1920x1200p. Crysis 2 at Very High with well above 30fps on average. I'm not sure of the XPS models but my M17x has a killer cooling system as well and since AW is owned by DELL I'm sure you'll have a good time heating whatever room your in and cooking those cards nicely.

I'm running GTX260M SLI, 2.8ghz intel core 2 duo, 4gb

1-It's "buy"

2-There is no shame in buying a gaming laptop if someone wants to buy it. If they have the money, they can get it if they want. Yes, there is the better deal of getting a tower, but some people like to take their games to multiple places.

What's wrong with being able to take your games with you anywhere?

Gaming laptops are very decent, if you've got the money for it and will get use out of it (they're GREAT for LAN events), then it's a good thing to buy.

why (imo) gaming laptops are not a good investment:
Small screen
Crappy keyboard
Pretty much need external mouse
Expensive (for what they are)
Lack of the ability to upgrade your rig
Can be stolen more easily if you taking that thing out...

list is long i cba to mention every thing

totally agree gaming laptops svck and you can buy very small gaming pcs small enough to carry to lans easily and lot better spec than any laptop also much cheaper . but hey aleinware laptops are a status thing maybe the guys got loadsa cash and can afford to buy both lets face it if ya and afford a alienware you got to have stupid moneys anyway :)

1. buy a laptop to show off with
2. realise you made a big mistake
3. buy a proper gaming system

easy :)

Uh no. If I had the money, I would totally buy an M11x R3 for my portable gaming.

Also, a small desktop? BS. I prefer to have everything in one than bringing the tower, speakers, monitor, cables, etc.

Never buy a gaming laptop.1-You are at the nercy of someone else bulding it. 2-If you want to upgrade to new gpu ib the future you can't. Its better to just build a desktop so you can put your own stuff and can expand if need too.But its your money and just be happy with what you buy. B-)
