That is interesting but they probably did that to make it work for consoles, consoles couldn't even play at full textures but you gotta remember crysis 2 is run by cryengine 3 which is a different coding than the first game but interesting article.

That is quite an eye opener there OP

I don't see the problem in making the pc game, and then downscaling whatever is needed for the consoles. Its not fair that we have to live with the same limitations, just because we are stronger.

Well then, time to start porting over textures.

Yeah, but you need to decrypt the files (shouldn't be a problem).
After that maybe someone can write a tool to automatically port textures?

This means two things:

1-Crytek will have a proper texture pack in a patch/in the DX11 patch

2-People can make modded texture packs

It doesn't excuse it.

They could have made one version of the PC and one version for the consoles. It's absolutely not an accepted excuse!

Yeah, if we ever get Sandbox 3 :(
But, I'm quite disappointed with Crytek going the easiest way. They've changed.

I remember the bonus DVD from Crysis Maximum Edition. The explained how they actually went to an island and took strong pictures of the vegetation to use in game... Ah...

What's bothering me with all this is why the hell they had to rush the game release? I can safely speak for every PC gamer that we would gladly wait 1 extra month if we would get proper PC version out of the box. This means, no console nonsense, full resolution textures, full DX11 support, proper physics with ragdools that don't go static after 0,1434 micorseconds, proper Ai... I mean i don't have a massive quad core in my box to experience nearly zero physics. At that point the game would be worth 40 EUR. But in current form it's not worth more than 25 EUR. Even if they add billion of updates, it won't get rid of the bitter taste...

Developers continue to release half ass console ports on PC and wonder why people decide to Pirate their PC games instead of buying them. Maybe if they released a product that was deserving of our money we might give it to them.

Dude, I was about to start on a texture mod for Crysis that doubled the resolution of all terrain and foliage textures.

But clearly this takes priority.

So is CryEngine 3 actually CryEngine 2.1?

Geez, no wonder they call it CryEngine, it makes us all cry.

This means one thing. Crysis 2 runs much smoother than Crysis 1 did. The textures are overall very good not the sharpest, but solid.

The only thing this means for me is that they won't see my money for Crysis 3 or any kind of DLC.

Bought Crysis and Warhead, never regreted it.
Bought Crysis 2, see how much of a downgrade it is in comparision to the first, how beta-like it was released, how much of a blatant port it is, regreted.
Will not buy Crysis 3.

Too bad I had Crytek in very high standards alongside Valve. Now they've been crossed off of that list and entered the "never buy games from this developer again". So now it's Valve, ArenaNet, Blizzard and Bioware that still mean something to me.

Now you guys who were going on about how awesome the engine was that allowed them to create all 3 versions at once see why this isn't the best feature after all?

It just means they get to make their console game and have a PC version ready with no extra work. Shareholders keep more cash in their pockets and we get blurry, low-res console textures and funnel-gameplay.
