Crysis 2's AI is the worst of all FPS this gen ?

IMO, Crysis has the worst AI in this gen. What do you think ?

I'm with you, the AI is dumbed down compared to Crysis and Warhead, but that's because of Crysis 2 being on consoles.

I think although the AI of COD 4 and WAW was not smart but at least they're not as retarded as C2.

I cant coment on MW2 and BO since I havent played them and wont.

As for L4D 1&2, the AI in those games were the zombies, so it's understandable they're braindead.

Got two to add on to the great list, Uncharted 1 and 2. If you include simple A.I. the Corridor Killzone games, not bad. But way more simple.

No it doesn't. Ever played Resistance 2? The Chimera run right past all your allies as if they were invisible and run straight for Hale. A good example would be when you first start the Chicago level. Right at the start.

Oh, and CoD (any of them, their all the same) and Haze have worse AI.

What happens when you put CoD AI into Crysis 2?
They sit there.
Unmoving.
You could cloak up behind them and they'll instantly do a 180 to shoot you. They don't run, they don't flank. They sit there until they die.

Crysis 2's AI is hugely complex, especially the alien AI. They navigate destroyed and 3D traversable levels, have a realistic field of vision, jump, climb, wallrun and spray wildly where they THINK you are, not WHERE you are. So you can hide behind cover, cloak, run out and watch as they slowly advance towards cover, firing their weapons at it and flanking it slowly.

The AI is better than Crysis 1, too. In Crysis 1 all the enemies needed was a realistic field of vision and behavior towards cloaking. The environment was very simplistic to navigate. The most complex navigation of the environment they ever did was vault over a fence. Only.
Crysis 2's environment is so much more detailed, with so many more obstacles.

So the AI is buggy at times, not stupid.

I agree with Aegis completely, it's the most complex AI in a game ever made. The AI in Crysis 2 is proper AI, AI that moves and reacts accordingly in a 3D sandbox environment. They have a vast range of reactions and animations that are extremely well-done. Whereas something like COD's AI (and most other games out there's AI) aren't even AI, they're just scripted events and animations of a character model. So if you simply place COD's AI into a Crysis 2 level they're not going to do anything except stand there, that's until you script everything you want them to do.

I also agree on that Crysis 2's AI is more complex than Crysis 1's, more reactions, more animations to go with those reactions, and they're just more fun to fight.

I think it'd be cool if, just for pc, do an update that's like a, "highly realistic/insane mode".

That would be great!

To add to the list, pre V1.59 Vanilla Arma 2 for starters (ACE2 made some awesome changes...but no one here would know about that).

The game just needs to be all around rougher on SP. I blew threw SuperSoldier like it was nothing. I'm not saying I want to rage at the game, but I at least want it to be a challenge.

I don't know about PC, but the AI on console (Xbox specifically) can seem like a classroom full of special education students. I've gone through this game 3 times, and I am currently going through slowly on SS writing out notes on the AI - I am at the end of Road Rage and I have 2 and a half A4 pages of notes.

AI following you in cloak, literally following you around in circles, and the threat meter doesn't even budge.

AI throwing grenades at walls they are standing next to, and standing there until the 'nade goes off and kills them, also the AI throwing grenades at the corpses of other AI even when you are standing half a map away.

There doesn't seem to be any noticable difference to the AI on any of the difficulty levels - the only difference I've noticed so far is bullet damage and respawning enemies.

I will agree that the AI for the Ceph seem better than the CELL, but that is mainly due to thier range of movement options.

That is just my 2 cents, feel free to disagree all you want, but I found the AI in Half-life 2 (PC and Xbox) to be far more involving and challenging.

Difficult to answer considering everyone has a different definition of what good AI actually is. Is it AI that is extremely challenging? Or AI that behaves how you would expect actual military/para-military/guys trained to fight with guns should act? If you pick the last option, like me, these games are worse:

-All COD games
-Haze
-Resistance 1 and 2
-While Uncharted 1 and 2 are not bad, they are not great either.

At least with the first Resistance game, it was made to be a twitch shooter and the AI worked perfectly for that kind of game.

The Uncharted AI does not behave the way you would expect human beings to behave when shooting at or being shot at by someone, but I have never seen one glitch or get stuck.

The problem with Crysis 2 AI is glitches. When it works you can see how great it is. It's just the glitches screwing everything up. If they can get those fixed, it would work great.

crysis = sandbox game wich = ai have to navigate the maps on a difrent lvl and there is alot of places where it can go wrong. unlike the regular corridor shooters where the bad guys poop up behind a barrel every 2 sec....

no the AI isn't stupid. aside from the fact that the enemies could duck a bit more and perhaps search for me, they have the annoying habit of looking or walking my way when cloaked. especially the Pinger does this. granted, he can hear my footsteps but still. when everyone is firing at you, footsteps shouldn't be heard.


COD, BF, have worse AI. FAR worse

The AI in SP sometimes walks into walls and acts comical, but it will surely be patched.

lol remember that there are still bug in this game, but as far as ive play you wont survive with ai that easily when charging at them on post human warrior. trust me, theyre so accurate that you only survive about 10 sec without armor mode. and fighting pinger? make sure you have the head for retry a few times. the ai in crysis 1 are actually dumber than crysis 2 ai when theyre on highest difficulties.
