so...since these are rented, will we be able to mod? Surely at the very least we can add custom maps.

@Crytek - What do you mean service provider partners? Does this mean we can only rent servers you say are ok? If so, that's no good.

Are you trying to push PC's down to the console level or what?

So consoles are still p2p?!? Am I right on this?

Because the demo lagged like **** on the 360 with Cryteks p2p code. And seeing as how the PC is now getting dedicated servers, I'll rent on console before I buy!

For clarification, Crytek, I'm a console only gamer. With Crysis 2 being your first foray into the console market and the "demo" was laggy garbage. You still need to prove your skills as console devs.

At least is not only 1 game server provider so you can select the best one for you. Unfortunately the only way to avoid pirate servers is this.
And I'm sure that this hosting services will give the opportunity to add mods (tested by them or approved by Crytek) just to get more clients.

Some day when consoles get mature and are more powerful will join the PC gaming on it's amazing quality.

Will home-based dedicated server files be released to the public? How else will we be able to host modifications?

I'm not going for this. No way. That will be the end of me and C2. I can stand a little DRM, but this is ridiculous.

Everytime I look at what they have done to the new Crysis, I say "Ok, this can be undone with modding later. They're sure to release the SDK and Sandbox pretty quick". This is the killer. This kills modding and freedom. I won't buy the game until they let us have free dedicated servers of our own choosing. And I'm sure a lot of PC gamers feel the same.

Crytek's paranoia and greed will get there game pirated into oblivion in the end.

I assume you have not played BC2. There are two kinds of server, ranked and unranked. You cannot mod the ranked server, but u can decide the player count, map rotation etc. Unranked servers give more freedom, you can even do class or weapon restriction. I am assuming this will be the case is Crysis 2 also. I dont know how can you assume there will be no modding?

And as for releasing server files, I think renting is better. Sure hosting once's own server is cheaper, but the experience for other players depends on the server hardware and owner's internet connection.

What ticks me off is that consoles may have dedis hosted by EA, while on pc some fine folks will have to pay for them

I hope they work with Microsoft/Sony to set up dedicated servers for the consoles. P2P games are just awful, and I find it hard to go from playing BC2 on a dedicated server to Reach with a P2P system.

Good news for PC fans though.
