Do you realize that replacing the executable from the DVD sets it back to version 1.0?
That would explain why you can't find any multiplayer servers because the servers want to see the 1.1 version.
Go to the game install folder to the bin32 folder, right-click the "Crysis2.exe" file there, click Properties->Details to check the version.
These are some of the file changes that the 1.1 patch should have made (your folder name will likely be different):
Code:old filedate < new filedate
02/24/2011 06:29:02 > 02/08/2011 05:17:14 L:\Games\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis 2\bin32\activation.exe
02/24/2011 06:28:48 > 02/08/2011 04:42:12 L:\Games\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis 2\bin32\activation.x86.dll
02/18/2011 07:43:52 < 03/18/2011 03:56:24 L:\Games\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis 2\bin32\activation.xml
02/24/2011 06:29:06 < 03/18/2011 04:07:32 L:\Games\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis 2\bin32\Crysis2.exe
02/28/2011 09:42:54 < 03/23/2011 03:43:38 L:\Games\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis 2\bin32\Crysis2Launcher.ini
Note that the patch installed apparently older "activation" files, that's probably just an artifact but it might be true. In any case it's certainly not an important detail.
Starting Crysis2 from a shortcut to the "Crysis2.exe" executable will (I think) prevent patching of the files to the 1.1 versions. I think you MUST start the game with the launcher "Crysis2Launcher.exe" in order for the patch to be downloaded and applied.
So, it's fine to run the game with a shortcut to "Crysis2.exe" but then you will never get any updates. Hint, sometimes that might be a good thing.
None of this helps if a patched "Crysis2.exe" does not run on your system.
