Is Crytek getting lazy?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:57 am

Ive noticed a serious drop in the quality of work crytek is doing with the new game.
Several things:

CTV episode 4 used an obviously early build to show off the new aliens, why not use something more current?

The multiplayer is now limited to 6v6, i think "more focused" is just an excuse, MW2 had 9v9 and C2 should be able to kick MW2 ass, especially with all this "breaking boundaries" talk we've been hearing.

Although i was optimistic about the demo, it seemed that it was released before the DEMO was finished, plus the lag was worse than any other beta ive been in.

Maybe im just hallucinating again, but it seems that crytek is cutting a few corners, thoughts, comments?

First of all, there are 2 studios making the game, Crytek Germany is making Crysis 2 Singleplayer, and they did the Cryengine 3 engine, Crytek UK is making the Singleplayer, note that Crytek UK has a lot of Console Multiplayer Experience, but a little at PC, hence why the game looks consolized

About the amount of players, 6 vs 6 will make you cooperate with your team to defeat the enemy, making it higher will make everyone just go around killing people, Look at TF2, it's a team based game, yet on maps like 2fort with 32 players, everyone goes sniper, pyro, or scout, barely anyone heals or defends the flag, and people are more focused on killing than capturing the flag.

on 16vs16 or 32vs32, a death is nothing, it's only like 3.5% of the team, so people just run recklessly shooting and die

but on 6vs6 a death means 13% of the team, this makes the player take a more tactical approach and choose their suit modules better instead of just choosing the ones that do most damage

This 6vs6 is good, but i bet you think "ok... add 6vs6 maps but also add big maps with 16vs16 deathmatch", personally, i don't know why they didn't add a secondary gamemode with more people, The only thing i believe was the cause is that Crytek Might want to release a Crysis 2 Wars DLC/expansion or add it to a sequel of crysis 2, or even perhaps it wasn't finished and it will be released on the future.

But it can assure you, at least if they allow Mods on servers and custom maps, that some community modders will mod the servers to allow 16vs16 people on PC multiplayer, just like they did for 20vs20 on crysis 1

Having played many many FPS games over the years I can safely say that as player count increases the more retarded gameplay becomes. I can understand the appeal that large player counts have to some people but the core game shouldnt be built around masses of players. Also if this game has a competitive scene, which it probably will, smaller amounts of players are better for that because most FPS competitive teams have 4-6 man rosters.

No. They just really like the consoles now. Expect more degrading game quality over the next few years.

You know whats funny ?That you complain about crysis 2 and it is not out yet. Also player number on pc is sure above 6vs6 and they said that.I prefer a 8vs8 and a 6vs6 in small medium maps and u know why?Cause everyone death counts and every player is valuable. For example cs tournaments:5vs5
quakelive team deathmatch :4vs4
unreal tournament tdm also:4vs4
BfBc2:8vs8 and 12vs12
Team fortress 2 :6vs6
These player number is the best u know why?Cause then u learn how to really play a game .Now imagine a 6vs6 crysis 2 ctf:>

Show your evidence, which I imagine will be difficult as the game has not even been published. We have no idea what Cryteks future plans are.

Unfortunately some developers do get a bit lazy, noticed it more on consoles games though from a few years ago, like level complexity would be noticeable as you progress, instead just end up facing more enemies to make it more 'difficult'. One game I thought was lazy was MOH: Rising Sun. I thought some models reflected that the most, and some other elements.
Cannot say regarding any thing in relation to Crysis 2, only that I don't think the multi-player is not reflective of any effort level, Crytek have been working on it for a while, made from decisions perhaps based upon gameplay design, technology maybe.
I hope that the difficulty level in C2 is as it was in Crysis, rather than increasing spawns and enemy health, it actually fundamentally makes things that are a convenience non-existent. Too many games do that, its just a cheap method, and pretty irritating.

My evidence...Crysis 2.

NO.

If Crytek were lazy, we'd have "World in Crysis" rather than Crysis 2 and all of us true Crysis fans would be happy. But instead, they gave it EVERYTHING THEY HAD to destroy Crysis. Believe me dude.

Without disclosing anything its just a console port. That is it, that is all its ever been and ever will be and that is why Crytek has not showed footage or recommended system requirements for it because they don't want to lose preorder sales. Professionally speaking, they are scared straight. EA has to build the hype so people don't back out of their preorders and thats why the leak is such a big deal. The leak is more complete than you think.

I prefer games where you actually work as a team, not a bunch of lone wolf mercs, but only once did i get that experience in the beta. Because of this, even though i wish it did, i dont think 6v6 encouraged teamwork enough. Maybe i was just unlucky and got a LOT of run n gun jerks to play with.

The multiplayer wasn't the only thing i was talking about though, it just seems to me that they aren't putting in the same quality as they did in C1.

Thats all I've seen in this beta. Lone Wolf, Run and Gun. I've personally seen much better team work in Wars. Its to be expected though. These are mostly console kids who loved COD.
